文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了世界卫生组织首次将“中医学”纳入《国际疾病分类》的相关信息。

1 . For the first time, the World Health Organization has included Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in its globally influential medical compendium (汇编),according to an international science journal.

An article published by Nature said that TCM had been included in the latest version of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) released last year. Starting from the 1800s, the ICD has been revised and published in a series of editions, reflecting the advances in health and medical science over time. It serves as the foundation for the identification of global health trends, and the international standard for diseases and health conditions.

The latest ICD is based largely on the work of the International Classification of Traditional Medicine (ICTM) project’s experts from around the world, who had been working on traditional medicine research and practices for years.

China has been promoting the modernisation of TCM and pushing for TCM to gain acceptance worldwide. Tu Youyou, a Chinese expert focusing on the scientific study of drugs and medicines, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in2015 for her research in TCM. Her discovery has saved millions of lives in developing countries in South Asia, Africa and South America. TCM is sure to grow in popularity globally.

While the use of herbal medicines, acupuncture (针刺疗法) and other traditional medical practices has been on the rise, there’s still a shortage of global classification and terminology (术语) tools for traditional medicine now, according to officials of the WHO.

“The decision is to promote the safe and effective use of traditional medicine by regulating, researching and combining traditional medicine products, practitioners and practice into health systems, where appropriate,”the WHO was quoted as saying by Nature.

文章大意:这是一篇记叙文,主要介绍了万维网的发明者Tim Berners-Lee。

2 . Most people have never heard of Tim Berners-Lee. He is not nearly as rich or famous as Marc Andreessen, who is the founder of Netscape, or Bill Gates, whose name has become a well-known word.

Berners-Lee, who works in a small office at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is the creator of the World Wide Web. The creation of the Web is so important that some people compare Berners-Lee to Johannes Gutenberg, who invented printing by movable type (活字) in the fifteenth century.

Berners-Lee was born in England in 1955. His parents, who helped design the world’s first commercial (商业地) available computer, gave him a great love of mathematics and learning. In 1980, Berners-Le went to work at CERN, a physics laboratory in Geneva, Switzerland, where he had a lot of material to learn quickly. He had a poor memory for facts and wanted to find a way to help him keep track of things he couldn’t remember. He invented a software program that allowed him to create a document that had links to other documents. He continued to develop his idea through the 1980s. He wanted to find a way to conned the knowledge and creativity of people all over the world.

In 1991, his project became known as the World Wide Web. The number of Internet users started to grow quickly. However, Berners-Lee was not completely happy with the way the Web had developed. He thought it had become a passive tool for so many people, not the tool for creativity that he had imagined.

In 1999, Berners-Lee published a book called Weaving the Web, in which he answered questions he was often asked, “What were you thinking when you invented the Web?” “What do you think of it now?” “Where is the Web going to take us in the future?”

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了瑞典城市埃斯基尔斯蒂纳独具特色的“彩虹色”垃圾回收体系。

4 . Rainbow-coloured rubbish is the colourful waste created by a Swedish city with an unusual recycling(回收利用) system. Like many cities in Sweden , Eskilstuna has an excellent recycling record . It met the EU's 2020 target of recycling 50% of waste many years ago.

Almost everyone who lives here follows strict recycling rules at home. People are expected to sort their household waste into seven separate categories, including food, textiles, cartons and metal. But what really makes the system stand out is the bright colour code.

The reason for this becomes clear at the city's recycling plant. The bags arrive all mixed up because they're collected altogether, once two weeks from outside people's houses. But thanks to those bright colours, scanners can choose the bags and separate them without difficulty. The food waste in green bags is processed on site into mud to make biogas, which powers the city's buses. One of the benefits of this method of recycling is that there is less cross-pollution,so more of the recycled waste can actually be used to make new things.

Like the rest of Sweden, Eskilstuna is devoted to sending zero waste from its citizens to landfill. Waste that cannot be recycled is burnt at a local plant to generate electricity. This reduces dependence on fossil fuels like coal and oil , but does create greenhouse gases .

As countries around the world try to improve their recycling systems, some may look to Eskilstuna as an example to follow-as long as they think they can persuade their citizens to get busy sorting rubbish at home .

1. Why are bright colours used in Eskilstuna's recycling system?
A.To reach the target of recycling 50% of waste.
B.To reduce the citizens' burden of sorting rubbish.
C.To make rubbish easy to separate and reeycle.
D.To collect different kinds of rubbish separately.
2. How is the rubbish that cannot be recycled dealt with?
A.It is used to produce electricity.
B.It is sent directly to landfill and buried there
C.It is processed at once to make biogas .
D.It is mixed with other waste to make new things.
3. If other countries want to recycle waste like Eskilstuna, what should they do first      .
A.Persuade citizens to use as few fossil fuels as possible.
B.Not create greenhouse gases unless necessary.
C.Use the bright colour code to sort the rubbish.
D.Talk people into sorting household waste properly.
4. Where is this text most likely from?
A.A diary.B.A magazine.
C.A novel.D.A guidebook.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。主要介绍了世界上几个不同地方的人不同的指路方式。

6 . Traveling without a map in different countries. I find out about different ways of giving directions every time I ask “How can I get to the post office?”

Foreign tourists are often puzzled in Japan because most streets there don’t have name signs. In Japan, people use landmarks (标志性建筑) to give directions instead of street names. For example, the Japanese will say to travelers, “Go straight down to the comer. Turn left at the big hotel and go past a fruit market. The post office is across from the bus stop.”

People in Los Angeles, the US, have no idea of distance on the map; they measure distance by time, not miles. “How far away is the post office?” you ask. “Oh,” they answer, “It’s about five minutes from here.” You don’t understand completely. “Yes, but how many miles away is it, please?” To this question you won’t get an answer, because most probably they don’t know it themselves.

People in Greece sometimes do not even try to give directions because tourists seldom understand the Greek language. Instead, a Greek will often say, “Follow me.” Then he’ll lead you through the streets of the city to the post office.

Sometimes a person doesn’t know the answer to your question. What happens in the situation? A New Yorker might say. “Sorry, I have no idea.” But in Yucatan, Mexico, no one answers “I don’t know.” People there believe that “I don’t” is impolite. They usually give an answer, but often a wrong one. So a tourist can get lost very easily in Yucatan! However, one thing will help you reach your destination everywhere in the world. It’s body language.

1. Which of the following is probably an example of Japanese directions?
A.“The post office is at Street Kamira.”
B.“Turn right at the hospital and go past a school.”
C.“The post office is about five minutes from here.”
D.“Go south two miles. Turn west and then go another mile.”
2. Why don’t people in Los Angeles give directions in miles?
A.They prefer to lead you the way.
B.They prefer to use body language.
C.They use landmarks to give directions instead of distance.
D.They often have no idea of distance measured by miles.
3. How do Greeks give directions?
A.Using street names.B.Leading the way.
C.Using landmarks.D.Giving people a wrong direction.
4. According to the last paragraph, we can learn that ______.
A.people in Mexico know street names well
B.body language makes you get lost in Yucatan
C.people in Mexico prefer to use body language
D.people in Yucatan sometimes give wrong directions

8 . The kites in Weifang never disappoint. Every year the Weifang International Kite Festival amazes visitors and netizens (网民) with innovative kites, as “paper birds” of unimaginable designs keep appearing in the sky.

The origin of kites in China can be traced back to the Warring States Period when the great Chinese philosopher Mozi in the State of Lu (part of today’s Shandong Province) made the first “wooden kite”. Kites didn’t actually become popular until the Ming Dynasty. By the middle of the Qing Dynasty, artists specialized in kite making began to appear in Weifang. In 1984, the first Weifang International Kite Festival was held.

Kites were used in China for military purposes at the very beginning. They were made to signal and measure distance, providing intelligence to aid moving large armies across difficult terrain (地形). For example, they can be used to calculate and record wind readings, similar to ship flags at sea. Over time, kites became associated with leisure activities, and were often flown during festivals and holidays.

Today, kite-flying is a popular leisure activity in China, and the Weifang International Kite Festival is one of the largest kite festivals in the world. In 2023, 622 kite artists from 59 countries and regions participated in the event. Compared with previous festivals, the 2023 event was highlighted by many innovations by both veteran (经验丰富的) and young kite makers. Zhang Xiaodong, 74, as a national intangible culture inheritor of Weifang kites, he has attended all 40 festivals. In the early days, he only brought traditional kites to take part in the competitions, but this time, he applied sound and light to make the fairy tale of Chang'e flying to the moon come “alive”.

The Weifang kite festival is not only a platform to share kite-making skills, but also a way to enhance friendship between people from different countries. The innovative kites presented in 2023 brought many pleasant surprises to kite lovers all over the world, and brought the people of China and other countries closer. 文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了海豚的生活习性以及其与人类的相处方式,建议人们保护海豚。

10 . Swimming in the water of Hawaii’s Big Island is a fun experience. But it can be more exciting if there are dolphins swimming around and jumping out of the sea too. For many people, it would be a wonderful dream to swim with these lovely animals! However, this may not be good for dolphins. They may get hurt because of human interaction (互动).

Dolphins are active and usually look for food at night. In the day, they like to rest in shallow bays (浅湾). Many people think the dolphins are awake during the day as they swim. But when they sleep they rest half of their brain and keep the other half awake to breathe, so they may be sleeping even when they’re swimming in the water.

From 2010 to 2013, spinner dolphins (飞旋海豚) of Hawaii’s Big Island were exposed to human activities more than 82 percent of the time, according to Julian Tyne, a researcher at Australia’s Murdoch University.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says disturbing the animals in their near-shore habitat could force them to swim to less favourable places, putting them at risk of being attacked by sharks and other animals.

Besides, when people are around, dolphins become more active. Thus, they can’t get enough sleep. “Disturbing their resting behaviours can actually affect their long-term health and the health of the dolphin population,” Ann Garrett of NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service told the Associated Press.

As a result, the NOAA wants to make rules to help protect the dolphins. For example, the agency (机构) may ban swimming with the Hawaii spinner dolphins. Or they may stop people from swimming in shallow bays when the dolphins are resting. Tour operators must also be taught to watch for signs to know when the dolphins are in their resting state.

1. Which of the following about dolphins is NOT true?
A.They spend most of their time sleeping at night.
B.They like to stay in shallow bays during the day.
C.They keep half of their brain awake while sleeping.
D.They may be sleeping even when they’re swimming.
2. What would they do when dolphins are disturbed in their near-shore habitat?
A.Swim to a crowded place.
B.Move closer to sharks.
C.Become less active.
D.Likely sleep longer.
3. Which activity is against the rules?
A.Swimming with the Hawaii spinner dolphins.
B.Swimming in bays where the dolphins live.
C.Making signs that show the dolphins’ resting state.

4. What does the article mainly talk about?
A.What habits dolphins have.
