文章大意:这是一篇新闻报道。文章讲述了一位70岁的老太太陈继芳在抖音上发布健身视频,用她充满活力的锻炼赢得了人们的心。

2 . A 70-year-old woman wins hearts with her energetic workouts on Douyin, He Qi reports in Shanghai.

Videos on the social networking platform Douyin—also know globally as TikTok—that show men and women with perfect physiques working out or giving fitness tips are commonplace. Trying to stand out from millions of such videos can often be difficult, but a relatively new account, which has only been active since last year, has managed to do so easily.

The fitness instructor behind this account is not a young woman with a slim, toned figure that would leave viewers green with envy. The star here is 70-year-old Chen Jifang, a Shanghai resident with 3 million likes on her Douyin videos. She was once even featured on a reality show on China Central Television.

According to her trainer, who helped to manage the Douyin account, Chen attracted more than 400,000 followers within just a few months. "The main group that I wanted to encourage was people ages 30 to 50," says Chen. "I think they will be motivated to work out in the gym after seeing that a granny like me can. The message I want to convey is that it is never too late to pursue good health."

While most people would be concerned about having an elderly family member perform such intensive workouts in the gym, Chen has the full support of her family. Her husband shows his support by doing most of the housework. Her daughter, on the other hand, helps to pick her gym attire(运动服装).

Chen may be a star in her own right, but she is also just one of many elderly citizens in China's major cities who are embracing exercise.

1. What does "commonplace" probably mean?
A.unusualB.important
C.usualD.unimportant
2. Chen Jifang created this account on Douyin mainly to ________.
A.attract as many followers as she can
B.inspire the middle-aged to stay healthy by exercising
C.stand out among the fitness instructors

3. What do we learn about Chen's family?
A.They are concerned about Chen's safety.B.They do all the housework for Chen.
C.They support her in every way they can.D.They work out with her.
4. What is most likely to be the author's attitude towards Chen Jifang?
A.favorableB.doubtfulC.indifferentD.critical

6 . The Most Popular Sports In The World

Sports are popular for a number of reasons, varying from keeping healthy to recreational purposes. Sports are even more popular with people who do not necessarily participate in them, but love being spectators. Here is a brief discussion of the most popular sports in the world.

Football (Soccer)—4 Billion Fans

Football, better known as soccer in the US and Canada, is the most popular sport in the world. The origins of modern football are in England in the 19th century, though history points to people playing similar games as far back as 2,000 years ago in China. It is played all over the world, but is particularly popular in Europe, Central and South America, and Africa.

Cricket—2.5 Billion Fans

The game is most popular in the UK and some former British colonies, especially India, Pakistan and Australia. Like baseball, it involves two teams, a bat, a large field, and scoring runs. There are obvious differences, however, including a long rectangular pitch at the center of a cricket field.

Hockey—2 Billion Fans

Hockey takes place both on ice and in a field. Field hockey is mainly played in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia, while ice hockey is particularly popular in Canada, the US, and Northern Europe. The game involves two teams trying to put a ball into the opposing team's net with a hockey stick. Unlike ice hockey, field hockey usually does not involve body contact in the form of checking.

Tennis —1 Billion Fans

In tennis, players on both sides of a lengthened net try to hit a ball with a racket so that it either goes past their opponents or bounces on their opponents' side twice to score points. Pro tennis players, like Roger Federer and Serena Williams, are now household names around the world.

1. Of the following sports, which has the least followers?
A.Soccer.B.Cricket.C.Hockey.D.Tennis.
2. Where did modern soccer appear for the first time?
A.In China.B.In Africa.
C.In England.D.In North America.
3. What do cricket and hockey have in common?
A.They involve a field and a stick.B.They involve two teams.
C.They are most popular in the UK.D.They are played on ice and in a field.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了奥运会的观众人数正在减少,因此奥运会推出了新的项目。文章讲述了人们对新项目的反应和将电子竞技纳入奥运会的潜在好处。

7 . The Olympic Games are old and so are the fans. The median age (中位年龄) of American viewers of the games in Barcelona in 1992 was 39. That increased to 53 for the Rio de Janeiro games of 2016. Overall viewing figures are sinking, too. At the most recent games in Tokyo in 2021, they were a third lower than in 2008.

Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), has admitted that the games risk losing connection. To keep connected with society, the Olympics are expanding, adding what Mr Bach described as “youth-based” sports. In Tokyo, climbing, skateboarding and surfing were put on the schedule. In Paris this year, breakdancing will feature for the first time. Undoubtedly the youth will be excited. But if Mr. Bach wants the Olympics to become more relevant to more people, the best idea would be to include e-sports.

So far the IOC has approached e-sports like an uncool dad. An inaugural (首次的) Olympic E-sports Week took place in Singapore in June. But the choice of events puzzled fans. The archery game, for instance, had been downloaded only 100 times before the tournament was announced. The most recognisable event, ”Just Dance“, is not considered an e-sport by fans. The experiment resulted in widespread doubt. Peak viewership was only more than 22,000.

E-sports command a huge audience. Attracting a big audience matters for the Olympics, which have seen the costs of infrastructure (基础设施) in recent years. The inclusion of e-sports would add income from media rights and sponsorship. Besides, the IOC has other reasons for changing its stand. For one, e-sports may bring Olympic glory to a more diverse group of countries and just like traditional sports, it can show three of the Olympic values: excellence, friendship and respect.

1. What can we know from Paragraph 1?
A.The viewing number of the Olympics is reducing.
B.The Olympic Games are always popular in America.
C.The IOC didn’t realize the problems of the Olympics.
D.The median age of Olympic viewers remained the same.
2. How do the Olympics keep connected with society?
A.By focusing on more popular and contemporary events.
B.By adding more sports attracting the younger generation.
C.By cutting down the number of traditional sports in the Games.
D.By hosting the Olympics in more countries with diverse cultures.
3. What was viewers’ attitude toward the inaugural Olympic E-sports Week?
A.Unclear.B.Satisfied.C.Tolerant.D.Uninterested.
4. What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A.Differences between traditional sports and e-sports.
B.Advantages of culturally diverse nations in e-sports.
C.Potential benefits of including e-sports in the Olympics.
D.Suggestions on building a safe gaming environment for e-sports.

8 . What is body surfing?

Bodysurfing is related to riding on a wave with no help from aid tools such as a surfboard. That’s why it is called the “purest” form of surfing. In fact, it is one of very few extreme sports—free climbing and cliff diving are. others—that can be practiced using nothing but the human body.

How do you do it?

To catch a wave, swim to where the waves break and, as one approaches, start swimming towards the beach. You must try to travel at the same speed as the wave and, if you do it correctly, you will feel the wave lifting you and pushing you forwards. Then try and cut along the surface of the wave.

What do you need?

It is more enjoyable and safer if you use flippers (large flat rubber shoes). This is because they enable you to swim faster and surf along them more easily. A wetsuit is also advisable. Another aid is a handboard, a mini-surf board about the size of an iron, held in one hand to speed up along the wave. If you are lucky enough to be surfing in warm water, make sure you have your boardshorts at the ready.

Unofficial world championship

Bodysurfing is not a professional sport, but in Hawaii there is such a festival called the Pipeline Bodysurfing Classic each year. Local bodysurfers compete against athletes from places such as Australia, Brazil, Japan or France. Famous bodyboarder Mike Stewart has won the event no fewer than 12 times, and Kelly Slater, the greatest surfer in history, has also competed.

1. How does a bodysurfer surf while in the sea?
A.Only using the human body.B.Only relying on a surfboard.
C.Only following a wave.D.Only swimming along the beach.
2. Which can make you surf faster?
A.Flippers and a wetsuit.B.A wetsuit and a handboard.
C.A handboard and boardshorts.D.A handboard and Flippers.
3. What can we know about the Pipeline Body surfing Classic?
A.It is for local bodysurfers.B.It is held annually in Hawaii.
C.All famous bodysurfers favor it.D.Mike Stewart attends it every year.

Memo

To: All Staff
From: Jakie Mok, Secretary; Sports Development Committee
Date: May 20, 2022

A week ago, “Sports for Life” program was sent to the parents, requiring them to select a sport they wanted their child to play. Since then, our staff have received lots of calls from parents asking for more information about it. Here is a memo (备忘录) for your reference when you answer the phones.

Sports 1: Basketball

We expect that this will be the most popular of the four sports. Therefore, students should be advised to sign up as soon as possible. Students will take a private bus to and from Kwun Tong Sports Park. To cover the cost of hiring a bus, each student will have to pay $10 each time. There will be four basketball courts available for our use with one teacher watching over each game.

Sports 2: Gym

We will be using St. Peter’s Memorial Park. There are two reasons for choosing this park. First, it is not very busy and crowded before 6:00 pm. Second, it has lots of trees with plenty of shade. Students must bring along two bottles of water to prevent thirst. Three activities, skipping, jogging, outdoor aerobics (有氧运动), all of which are free of charge, will be arranged. And there will be a teacher on duty for each of the activities.

Sports 3: Hiking

Hiking will take place at Kowloon Peak. The activity will start at 2: 30 pm and finish 90 minutes later. Three teachers will accompany the students, and a hiking instructor will accompany each group of 15 hikers. Each instructor will cost $75/hr. Students are advised to bring plenty of water and sunscreen.

Sports 4: Swimming

The Kowloon City Aquatic Centre is a 10-minute walk from our school. Four teachers will go to the pool and conduct the goings-on from the poolside. We will only be able to reserve the pool for one hour (i.e. 2:45 pm to 3:45 pm.) Only students skillful at swimming can take up this activity. The pool will have two lifeguards present. Girls must wear a swimming suit. The cost is $10 per visit.

1. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.Students selecting basketball had better sign up early.
B.Students participating in gym should arrive at 6:00 pm.
C.Hiking usually begins at 2:30 pm and lasts 2 hours.
D.Students having swimming suits can take up swimming.
2. It can be concluded that _______.
A.each sport will take only one hour
B.students will be charged for the four sports
C.all the sports will take place at Kowloon Peak
D.teachers will accompany students on each sport
3. The purpose of the memo is to________.
A.attract students’ interest in the program
B.help the staff explain the program to parents
C.require the parents to select a sport for their child
D.remind teachers and lifeguards to be present on time
