1 . There are lots of skiing lovers around the world. To get the most out of your time on the mountain you should think through each part of your adventure- equipment, clothing, food, and travel.     1    , the more time you can spend on the slopes.

Equipment

Your skiing equipment — composed of your skis, poles, bindings, helmet, and goggles — should be checked over, and possibly tuned up, before you pack your bags for the mountain.     2    . Inspect your boots to make sure they fit properly. Check your goggles and put them on with your helmet to see that they fit comfortably and offer a wide field of view.

Clothing

Your jacket and snow pants should be properly fitting and recently cleaned. Make sure your gloves are in good shape and offer a sense of comfort.     3    . Don’t forget extra items like warm socks, neck warmers and ski masks as well.

Food

Anyone who has ever purchased lunch at the ski lodge knows just how expensive it can be. Packing your own lunch saves you money and gets you back on the slopes faster.     4    , bring plenty of fluids to drink on breaks between runs.

    5    .

Know your way to the mountain before you hit the road and consider writing down directions if you know you’re heading into areas with spotty service. At the mountain, choose a designated meeting place in case the group becomes separated- a spot near the main lift often works well. Check the forecast and current conditions of the mountain. Many ski resorts will have live updates on the number of open trails and lifts.

A.Routes and planning
B.Spots and conditions
C.If you are fully prepared
D.The more prepared you are
E.While bringing a bottle of water with you on the mountain isn’t recommended
F.Besides, long underwear goes a long way in keeping your legs warm and comfortable

2 . As health care costs continue to rise, a growing number of companies are working out programs designed to keep their employees healthy.

Thomas Chapple is the senior vice president. “It’s really important to us because medical costs are going up like crazy, he says. This company spends more than 200 million a year on medical costs for its employees around the country. The best thing we have seen as a way to control the medical cost is individual fitness.”

We have a fitness center, “Shawn Flaherty, director of public relations for Freddie Mac.,” says, “We have a health benefits plan that encourages people to work out three times a week, get cholesterol (胆固醇) checks, as well as ‘not to smoke.’ If they do that, it will cost them less for the health benefits.”

Rachelle Clark works for Freddie Mac. “I feel great. You know the benefit is rewarding. I like to look good and feel healthy. I am just fortunate that I work for the company that provides some type of facility for the employees.”

While on-site fitness centers are popular, some companies pay membership fees at local gyms for employees. The companies also offer classes such as boxing, yoga and dancing. Employees see those health programs as a valuable benefit.

Tom Brook exercises five days a week. As a newspaper reporter he has a tight schedule, although Tom says it’s not that difficult for him to make time for a workout. “It is great. It is right here where we work,” says Tom, “So everybody gets a chance to use it whenever they want to. I have lost weight and never been in better shape.”

The programs may not be a magic cure for rising health costs, but they seem to have a positive impact on both employers and employees.

5 . They train four hours a day, often waking up at 4:30 or 5:00 for before-school practices.Their evenings and weekends are eaten up by twice-weekly travel games.Every day is the same;there’s no break. No,these aren’t Olympic athletes;they’re kids.

The benefits of sports are obvious. So,it’s not surprising that, according to CNN,41 million American children play competitive sports. But when does this become too much of a good thing?

Seven years ago,a survey in SportingKid magazine found 84 percent of athletes’ parents had observed belligerent behavior in other parents at games and that 80 percent had been targets of this behavior. What does this say about sports culture, and our culture as a whole? Some parents have become so crazy about their children’s winning that they don’t stop to think about what example they are setting.

If athletes are constantly surrounded by adults who scream at coaches and attack sports officials, they may think that this is acceptable behavior. They’ll try to win at all costs. In other words, they won’t know how to accept defeat, and learn from it.

The amount of time some athletes spend practicing can be dangerous.According to Sports Illustrated, over 3.5 million athletes younger that 15 suffered from a sports-related injury—that’s nearly one in ten! Many injuries cause permanent(永久的)damage if not treated.

So what can we do about this situation? Some argue that there is no problem, because sports has always been and will always be competitive. But did your grandparents spend hours each day practicing tennis or volleyball? No,they probably played with the neighborhood kids after school, not worrying about winning. All they wanted was to have fun.And that’s what we need to change in youth sports—focus on enjoyment.

7 . Marathon fever is sweeping this country. In recent years, China's ever-growing passion for marathons has been triggered by its economic development and health-conscious middle class. A large number of marathon runners are white-collar workers, civil servants and business people that are keen on leading a healthy lifestyle. Government support, social participation and strong marketing by the sports industry have gradually led to the rapid development of the marathon industry, which is currently valued at 70 billion yuan ($10.77 billion). Due to its large participation and nationwide media report, marathons are considered by local governments an important part of marketing their cities. Thus, many cities list unique routes across local scenic spots and historical attractions, not only to boost people's fitness, but also to promote local tourism.

For many runners, marathons are a way of life." As we get older, the places and opportunities to meet new people decrease. I find that participating in marathons is a simple way to make friends," said Wu, who made many friends in the Xstop Running Community, a running club with 48,000 members established by Xtep, one of the leading distributors of sports merchandise in China.

"The sense of belonging and the mutual encouragement that exists within the running community are very attractive to many people. We easily befriend one another, since we have the same goal: to keep running and never stop," Wu said. Besides, a marathon can be a great way to explore new places. For a runner who also loves traveling, marathons are a solid choice. "Competing in an international marathon is a chance to experience a city or a country you've never visited before," said Meng, an experienced runner from north China's Tianjin Municipality, who often runs in London, New York and Melbourne.

There's a unique perspective that people get running through the streets of a city, distinct ancient buildings or amazing natural settings, he explained, things that somehow just can't be seen by rushing in a car. In addition, during a race, streets are often closed off so you don't have to battle traffic.

1. Which word has the closest meaning to the underlined word "triggered" in the first paragraph?___
A.motivatedB.solvedC.battledD.increased
2. Who is most likely to take part in the marathons___
A.John,a company manager
B.Jack,a middle-aged farmer
C.Rose,a high school student
D.Maria,a retired teacher
3. According to paragraph 3&4,which of the following statement is NOT true?___
A.A marathon can be a great way to explore new places
B.There is few traffic in the streets during a marathon race.
C.You see common sights by running through the streets of a city
D.Many people are attracted to mutual encouragement of the running community.
4. Why do local governments support the marathons?___
A.Because nationwide media coverage can make them famous.
B.Because they realize the benefits for their citizens.
C.Because local scenic spots and historical attractions can have unique routes.
D.Because they want to make people healthier and boost tourism.
