文章大意:本文为一篇记叙文,讲述了太极运动对于作者的影响。

3 . I hesitated when my friend suggested that we join the school’s new Tai Chi club. I used to think that tai chi was for the elderly. However, the first class changed my previous understanding of tai chi. A year later, I can say that tai chi has had a huge impact on me.

The first few tai chi classes were fun and easy, and the moves with descriptive names really caught my imagination, like “white crane spreading its wings” and “golden rooster standing on one leg.” When I asked my coach where these interesting names came from, he told me about the history of tai chi. Zhang Sanfeng, a 13th-century Taoist, was said to have invented tai chi after drawing inspiration from a fight between a snake and a bird. However, nowadays people tend to believe that Chen Wangting, a 17th-century master of Chinese martial arts, developed tai chi based on martial arts skills.

After the first few basic tai chi lessons, I found myself bored and aching from doing the same slow moves over and over again. Fortunately, my coach taught me how to relax my muscles and focus on peace of mind during ever, day practice. With these requirements of tai chi in mind, I found to my satisfaction that my balance and flexibility slowly improved, that I was able to do more difficult moves, and that my love for tai chi returned stronger than ever.

Meanwhile, I started to explore the ancient Chinese culture behind tai chi. I discovered that tai chi is deeply rooted in the Chinese philosophy of yin and yang, which are believed to form the the unity of opposite. Neither can exist independent of the other. The practice of tai chi aims to keep the balance of yin and yang in the body through opposite movements: forwards and backwards, up and down, left and right, breathing in and breathing out. Ultimately, tai chi brings about a state of physical balance and mental peace.

The experience of a year of tai chi has affected my everyday life positively. I sleep more soundly at night, and feel more energetic during the day. I feel happier and more confident. Tai chi has taught me to relax my mind, enabling me to stay calm in stressful situations. I am sure I will continue to practise tai chi and enjoy the benefits it has brought me.

4 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

I grew up in southeastern Michigan. I was a fan of Detroit Tigers, a famous baseball team, as a young boy.

My childhood dream was to be like my hero, Al Kaline, and someday play for the Tigers. My Dad would take me to Tiger Stadium several times a year and my hero Al Kaline would never let me down. We never attended a game that he didn’t get at least one hit.

I was crazy about baseball. If there was a game in my high school, I was never absent. I kept practising so that I could achieve my dream of playing for the Tigers, and I was doing well at each level of play. Later, I got a chance to sign up for a strong American Legion baseball program. There I met our coach, Bob Ohm, who knew a lot of baseball and taught each of us the basics as well as more advanced baseball skills. With Bob Ohm’s help and my hard work, I had set new records in many baseball championships.

My dream to be like my hero seemed to draw near. One summer, I went up to play the final season in Marinette. There were scouts who came to find the best players. This was it! My big chance!

Well, as the game progressed I hit the ball very well getting five hits in the game. Unfortunately, I also made four mistakes. The final mistake actually drew laughter from the crowd.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了运动数据分析在体育领域的应用,特别是棒球、足球和其他球类运动。

5 . Sam Gregory is a data scientist. He and his colleagues analyze data on soccer, ice hockey and other team sports. Coaches have come to realize that such statistics are valuable. They can guide strategies for beating the next opponent (对手). They might also suggest which practice drills or recovery routines will help players perform best at the next match. And technology for tracking all those numbers isn’t just useful for professional athletes. It also lets the rest of us record and improve our workouts.

Sports analytics started with baseball. Here, batting averages and similar measures have been tracked for more than a century. Around 2000, some people went well beyond those simple statistics. They analyzed data to identify and hire talented players who other teams had largely ignored. This let a baseball team with a small budget create a team that could beat wealthier teams.

Other ball sports soon followed the sports-analytics fashion. Wealthy clubs in the English Premier League were the first to build analytics teams for soccer, which the league and most of the world call football. Other European and North American leagues followed. Soccer coach Jill Ellis led the U. S. Women’s National Team in back-to-back World Cup championships. She credits analytics with some of that success in 2015 and 2019.

Today, companies like Gregory’s Sportlogiq help many soccer clubs prepare for the coming games. That means analyzing the opponent’s previous performance. Analysts use computer software to watch lots of videos. The software can summarize data faster than people can, and from any number of games. Those summaries help clubs identify the key players they need to guard. They point to sets of players who work well together. And they spot field sections where the opponent tends to attack or press.

1. What can we learn about the sports data analysis from the text?
A.It is a new science in the world.
B.It benefits almost everyone’s exercise.
C.It serves professional athletes specially.

A.Setting up competitive teams at a low cost.
B.Judging what sports that players can perform best.
C.Reporting batting averages and similar measures.
D.Guiding the teams to make as much money as possible.
3. How do sports analyzing companies prepare clubs for games?
A.Look into the future of certain team sports.
B.Work out the proper strategies for their games.
C.Promote the use of computer in the sports fields.
D.Help them know both themselves and opponents.
4. What is the best title for the text?
A.Soccer Game StrategiesB.Today’s Team Sports
C.Sports Data AnalyticsD.Data and Information

7 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

The New York Marathon (马拉松) is my goal for this year. I know I am never going to win a race but now, when I get anything negative, I will think of the kind gentleman who really believed, “You very good… you very fast.”

At the time, I was living in the Bay Area, and my mother had come to visit for a few days. On the last day of her stay, I was preparing to go out for a run. I picked up a T-shirt I just bought the other day from a Chinese clothing shop — it had some Chinese characters on the front, and a scene of Honolulu Chinatown on the back. I didn’t speak Chinese, but somehow this special T-shirt was quite soft and good for exercise.Working in a very negative environment, I found morning runs very beneficial — body tired but mind awake.

And I had always met an elderly Chinese gentleman walking on the opposite side of the trail (道路) when I was running on other mornings. I had always said, “Good morning,” and he had always smiled warmly and nodded his head slightly.

As I was going out the door, my mother suddenly said, “I don’t think running is so hot — that famous runner died.” I started to recount what I had read about Jim Fixx, and how running had probably been the contributing factor to his living far longer than most of the other members of his family, but I knew there was absolutely no point.

As I started running on my favorite trail, I found I couldn’t shake my mother’s statement. I was so discouraged that I could hardly run. I began thinking, “Why do I run at all? Serious runners probably think I look silly! I might have a heart attack on the trail — my dad had a fatal (致命的) heart attack at 50 years old, and he was seemingly in better shape than I am.”

My first and last time running a full marathon

It       1     (was, is) one of the hottest days in the fall of 2019, almost as hot as a typical summer day. I     2     (had stood, was standing) among large crowds of runners, many of whom including me       3     (had been waiting, have been waiting) for this moment. This was my first time to be running in a full marathon. Before this day, I       4     (had never run, have never run) more than 35 km at one time. With the start time approaching, my heart     5     (was to start, started) pounding faster with excitement and uncertainty.       6     (Would I be, Will I be) able to finish a race that is 42.195 kilometers long?

The moment the starting gun went off, the empty road       7     (was flooding, was flooded) with runners. I started my GPS watch to record my running statistics (数 据 ): speed, length, time, heart rate, and the like. As expected, after running for nearly two hours, I     8     (had covered, would cover) half of the race’s length. Given my record in training, I was still confident of finishing the race within four hours. After all, I       9     (had been training, have trained) for the marathon since the spring of the previous year.

The sun     10     (was getting, would get) higher, and I could feel the heat of the sun’s rays. Soon I realized that my pace       11     (had been slowing, would slow) down steadily, as some runners who       12     (had been running, ran) shoulder to shoulder with me were moving ahead. There was nothing I could do but watch the distance between us getting longer. By this time, my heart was pounding faster due to a lack of oxygen. As I       13     (would struggle, was struggling) to pass the 32 km sign, more runners ran past me. It was also at this stage that I got cramp (痉挛) in my leg and had to stop running. So, I walked instead, silently drying my tears of regret. Determined to cross the finish line before the marathon       14     (was, would be) officially over, I turned down any offer of help from volunteers. By the time I finished the race, 5.5 hours       15     (had passed, was passing).

In future, I will probably not have a second chance to run a full marathon, for I had lung surgery the following year and       16     (have since been forbidden, had since been forbidden) to do any vigorous (激烈的) exercise.
