1 . China’s artistic swimming duo (双人表演) Ms Jiang and her twin sister made history on Tuesday by gaining a sixth gold at the Asian Games, the most earned by any athletes in artistic swimming in its history. What makes the twin sisters’ achievement more remarkable is the fact that both of them returned from giving birth to baby daughters to do so.

"I’ve been their coach for over 20 years," said Ms Zheng. Women’s Duet coach, "ever since they were 8 years old. When they came back after having babies, their training plans were completely changed. I think they have already showed that female athletes can return to their best form after having a baby. "

The twin sisters announced their retirement after finishing a third at the 2013 China National Games. They went on to get married on the same day and their baby daughters arrived in 2015 and 2016. And after a three-year absence, the twins decided to come back to the pool.

"I think to reach a mature state in artistic swimming, athletes have to go through years of training. What keeps us going is our love of the sport," said one of them.

The 31-year-old twins won a well-deserved gold at the 2017 China National Games. At the third Asian Games, they claimed their sixth gold at the multi-sports meet to be a record in artistic swimming at the Games, and a result their coach wasn’t sure could happen when they first decided to come back.

"Because of our love of the sport, we overcame many hard times, especially the physical obstacles. After all, we’re no longer young. But now I think we are even better than before," said the other.

To be a mother while training and competing at the highest level means this gold medal seems much more than any of the others from before.

B.They got trained by plans that were totally different.

2 . Osaka, Japan—Defending champions China lifted the FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Cup trophy(奖杯)with perfect 11 straight wins after easing past Argentina 3-0 here on Sunday. With their eleventh win at the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Cup, China won the FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Cup.

This year, the World Cup has been played across different cities, and Team China had training sessions even on traveling days when some participating teams chose to rest up after a tiring flight.“Coach Lang focuses on details of the technique in the training sessions, and I feel our team has become more balanced.” Captain Zhu Ting said. This firm approach explains how China managed to turn the table against the United States at the World Cup. Never quit, especially in adversity. That’s what the spirit of Chinese women’s volleyball means.

When the team struggled, Zhu was always there, doing whatever was needed to carry the team forward. That’s why she has become a national volleyball icon, just like “Iron Hammer” Lang. As for Lang, she took over the flag from her former coach Yuan Weimin, who was behind China’s rise in the beginning. From coach Yuan to coach Lang, and spiker(主攻手) Lang to spiker Zhu, the flag bearers may have changed over time, but the craving for championships and the steely desire and determination remain the same.

Volleyball is a team sport and behind the on-court team, there is always a supportive coaching team and staff. Lai was one of the members, shouldering responsibilities as both vice director of China’s Volleyball Management Center and as assistant coach. Apart from coordinating between coaches and players, Chinese coaches and foreign coaches and sometimes within Chinese coaches, she also has to do chores. During Rio 2016, assistant coach Yuan Lingxi headed for the arena(竞技场)at 6am every day to film the matches and would return to the Olympic Village at 2am when he would start analyzing China’s opponents and file reports. There are many Lais and Yuans that are not known by the public, but who remain indispensable for the team to overcome difficulties and reach their peak.

1. What does the spirit of Chinese women’s volleyball mean according to paragraph 2?
A.Being a special team.B.Sticking to the end.
C.Winning every game.D.Training hard every day.
2. Why does Zhu Ting become a national volleyball icon?
A.She wins many awards in the World Cup.
B.She keeps strong desire and determination.
C.She takes lots of training after the tiring flight.
D.She does almost everything to help the team forward.
3. What does the author intend to convey in the last paragraph?
A.Hard work is vital in volleyball matches.
B.The coach has a great influence on players.
C.The staff behind the on-court team is also essential.
D.Understanding opponents is necessary to win the game.

3 . It's at this time of the year that marathon recovery, not marathon training, starts to take center stage.

Research indicates that the muscle damage from running a marathon can last up to two weeks. The research also indicates that muscle soreness(肌肉酸痛)is not a good indicator of muscular healing. In other words, just because you aren't sore anymore doesn't mean that you are fully healed. This is the danger for marathon runners: post-marathon muscular soreness fades after a few days but minor damage within the muscle cells remains. If you return to full training too soon--running more and faster than the tissues are ready for--you risk delaying full recovery and the chance to get ready for your next goal.

The solution, it appears, is to recognize (and accept) that the muscles will take a while to heal and to be prepared to take it easy for the first couple of weeks (even longer if you’re particularly sore after your marathon). While the research isn't very promising when it comes to things to do to reduce soreness and aid healing, a couple of concepts appear to help. First, providing gentle blood flow to the area helps bring healing nutrients (营养) into the muscles and also helps to remove waste products and damaged tissue. Walking and gentle massage(按摩)can help, particularly in the first few days after a marathon. Once muscle soreness has significantly reduced (usually two to four days after the race), light jogging can commence. Just be mindful to run very slowly.

No runner wants to get super fit and then lose that during the recovery process. But since you must reduce your training load following your marathon, it can be difficult as to how much and how soon to insert running into your post-marathon training.

1. When should marathon runners return to full training?
A.About half a month after the competition.
B.A few days after soreness disappears.
C.Before the tissues recover completely.
D.Before the next game draws closer.
2. How can marathon runners reduce their muscle soreness?
A.Through family care.
B.By doing gentle exercise.
C.Through medical treatment.
D.By removing damaged tissue.
3. Which of the following best explains “commence” underlined in Paragraph 3?
A.Fit.B.Heal.
C.Start.D.Mend.
4. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Reducing Training LoadB.Soreness with Sports
C.Healing Muscle SorenessD.Recovery after Marathon

5 . Roger Federer, who recently became the oldest man to hold the No. 1 ranking in men's tennis at the age 36, will bring a 12-match winning streak (连胜) to the BNP Paribas Open, which starts this week at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

Federer, a five-time winner of the hard-court event and a 20-time Grand Slam singles champion, on Tuesday was seeded No. 1 in a field that has been given up by injuries to several excellent players. Among those missing are world No. 2 Rafael Nadal (hip injury), Stan Wawrinka (knee), who lost to Federer in the 2017 final, David Goffin (eye) and Andy Murray (hip surgery).

Federer, who has spent 305 weeks of his career at the top the Assn of Tennis Professional world rankings, must reach the semifinals (半决赛) at Indian Wells to keep his No. 1 status. If he exits sooner than that, Nadal would regain the top spot. Federer has a first-round bye (轮空) and a seemingly easy projected route to the quarterfinals, where he likely would face No. 5 seed Dominic Thiem of Austria.

Five-time Indian Wells champion Novak Djokovic, who had a small medical intervention (干预) on his troublesome right elbow earlier this year, was seeded 10th in the tournament. Djokovic has played only four matches this year because of his elbow problems and hasn't played a tournament since he lost to Hyeon Chung of South Korea in the round of 16 at the Australian Open in January.

Maria Sharapova of Russia will face Naomi Osaka of Japan on Wednesday with their match scheduled for not before 5:00 p.m.

1. What can we infer from paragraph 2?
A.Federer gave up the match on Tuesday due to the injury.
B.Many excellent players took part in the match including Rafael Nadal.
C.Federer was lucky enough seeded No. 1 on Tuesday.
D.Stan Wawrinka beat Federer in the 2017 final.
2. Why does Federer have a seemingly easy projected route to the quarterfinals?
A.Because he is seeded No.1
B.Because he has a first-round bye.
C.Because many excellent players are missing.
D.Because he is well enough to beat any player.
3. Who is most likely to be the seed next to Federer among the players who can play in the BNP Paribas Open?
A.Rafael Nadal.B.Maria Sharapova.
C.Novak Djokovic.D.Dominic Thiem.
4. What is the best tittle of the text?
A.Roger Federer, seeded No. L
B.Roger Federer, to bring a 12-match winning streak.

10 . All over the world people enjoy sports. Sports help to keep people healthy, happy and help them to live longer.

Sports change with the season. People play different games in winter and summer.

Games and sports often grow out of people’s work and everyday activities. The Arabs use horses or camels in much of their everyday life; they use them in their sports, too.

Some sports are so interesting that people everywhere go in for them. Football, for example, has spread around the world. Swimming is popular in all countries near the sea or in those with many rivers.

Some sports or games go back to thousands of years, like running or jumping. Chinese boxing, for example, has a very long history. But basketball and volleyball are rather new. Neither one is a hundred years old yet. People are inventing new sports or games all the time.

People from different countries may not be able to understand each other, but after a game they often become good friends. Sports help to train a person’s character(性格). One learns to fight hard but fight fair, to win without pride and to lose with grace(体面).
