1 . Chinese athletes were highlighted by a series of inspirational wins in the International Ski Federation’s World Cup circuit recently. China’s Gu Ailing, a Chinese freestyle talent, made history by becoming the first ever back-to-back freeski World Cup winner in two different events at the same venue after claiming the slopestyle title in Calgary, Canada, on Feb.15, 2020. The day before, Gu had stormed to her first Cup gold in the halfpipe competition.
Gu again thrilled the crowds on Feb.15 in the slopestyle with another impressive display of technical riding, landing a string of difficult tricks, including a massive right 900° twist with a tail grab in her second run that earned her 89.18 points to dominate the 18-strong field.
“Honestly, my mind is blown,” Gu told the FIS website after the competition. “Coming in I didn’t have any expectations. I try not to take anything for granted. Honestly, I could not have expected two wins from these events.”
“I really just came in trying to do my best and ski the way I knew I could. Skiing my best is really the best part of this, and being rewarded for it just makes it even better.”
Born to a Chinese mother and an American father in San Francisco, US, Gu, better known as Eileen in the States, completed a naturalization process last June to represent China in international competitions.
Now she has her sights set on doing her mother’s home country proud at the 2022 Beijing Games.
A talented skier who has won many national junior titles in the US, Gu became a hit last month after winning two golds and a silver — in halfpipe, Big Air and slopestyle — at her first appearance in Winter Youth Olympics in Lausanne, Switzerland.
With Gu now on board in freeski, China’s snow sports team, which also features world-class aerial skiers and halfpipe snowboarders, is determined to challenge Western dominance on the snow in 2022.

Dear Chris,
Are you exciting about our coming volleyball game against No.1 Middle School next Friday? Now I will give you an introduction for the game so that you can make full preparation for it.
First and foremost, the competition to take place in our school stadium will begin at 2 pm, last for roughly 3 hours. So significant was the game that it is required that everyone should present ourselves punctually. What’s more, it is necessary for you to take good rest, that will provide enough energy for you. To sum up, I wish you could live up to the expectations of our school. And I firm believe hard work will pay off it!
Yours truly,
Li Hua
I am writing to express my disappointment that the Athletic Center has chosen to close its on-site nursery, which provides an indispensable service for mothers who wish to exercise and be physically fit. It is also the Center’s commitment to the health of the community. Closing the nursery is endangering the wonderful, family-oriented atmosphere. I hope you will reconsider this discouraging decision.
For mothers like me, a gym nursery is absolutely essential. Many of us cannot afford to hire babysitters just so we can go to the gym. By running a nursery, the Athletic Center enables mothers of all income levels to work out without much inconvenience or expense. I have really benefited from this service and would hate to see it go.
I also believe that providing a nursery has helped the Athletic Center to fulfill its mission of “building a healthier Savannah.” By making it easier for mothers to exercise, the gym has reached out to those who often struggle to stay fit. I worry that by closing the nursery, the Center will not be as effective at putting its own principles into action. I deeply respect the Center for its contributions to the health of our whole community, and I would love to see those contributions continue.
I know that many other gym members also believe that the Center’s commitment to “a healthier Savannah” is what sets it apart from other local gyms. I enjoy working out in such a unique, family-friendly atmosphere, and I consider many of my fellow gym members to be close friends. I have heard that if the nursery closes, many mothers will leave the Center in favor of a gym that can offer childcare, which will negatively affect all members by changing the wonderful atmosphere that we currently enjoy.
I would very much appreciate it if you would reconsider closing the nursery. I would be very disheartened to see it go.
Sincerely,
Virginia O. Malcolm

6 . When a running event is longer than 26.2 miles, it is called an ultramarathon. There are two kinds of ultramarathons. In the first kind of ultramarathon, runners have to cover a specific distance—50 miles, for example. In the second kind of ultramarathon, runners have a limited amount of time, such as 24 hours, to cover as much distance as they can. Some ultramarathons are run as loops around a track or course. Others are run on trails through forests, deserts, or mountains. Many ultramarathons that are run on trails include natural obstacles that a runner will have to overcome, such as rocky paths or bad weather. Ultramarathons are run all over the world, even on Antarctica. The most famous race across Antarctica is called The Last Desert Race. Runners pay over $14,000 to compete in this race. Besides, they must also buy special equipment to protect themselves against the extreme cold.

You should also remember to drink eight ounces of water or a sports drink every 15 to 20 minutes. Your pace is also very important. When you are running an ultramarathon, you should start running more slowly than you do when you run a regular marathon.
Finally, many people who run ultramarathons say that it is easier and more fun to train with friends than it is to train alone. So if you are interested in running an ultramarathon, you should also try to get one of your friends interested in it too.
