The World Health Organization’s Internship Program offers a wide range of opportunities for graduate and postgraduate students to gain insight in the technical and administrative programs of WHO while enriching their knowledge and experience in the health field.

Who are we looking for?

-You are at least twenty years of age on the date of application.

-You are enrolled(注册)in or have completed three years of full-time studies at a university or an equivalent(同等学力的)institution. Applicants who have already graduated may also qualify for consideration if they apply to the internship within six months after completion of their formal qualification.

-You possess a first degree in a public health，medical or social field related to the technical work of WHO or a degree in a management-related field.

-You are not related to a WHO staff member(e. g. ，son／daughter，brother／sister，or mother／father).

-You are fluent at least in one of the working languages of the office of assignment.

-You have not previously participated in WHO’s Internship Program.

When Simon Cane was in the second grade, he began learning about all the ways humans have an impact on the environment and really took those classroom lessons to heart in a way that set him apart from his schoolmates at his elementary school, P. S. 81, in the Bronx. “He told me we drove too much and made too much pollution,” his dad, Jonathan Cane, told Runner’s World. So Simon convinced his parents to start hanging their clothes to dry, taking the stairs instead of elevators, and other “green” measures.

We’d stop to give our dog treats and generally enjoyed it.” As Simon got bigger, though, it wasn’t practical for him to ride on his father’s back, but it also didn’t make sense to ride together — both because of safety concerns and because there was no place to put away Simon’s bike. But in 2019, when Simon was going into third grade, the 8-year-old came up with a new way to help the planet: running the 1. 5 miles to P. S. 81. And Jonathan promised his son he’d join him for as long as he wanted.

“We did a test run one day in August, and decided to give it a go. To be honest, I thought he’d blink (眨眼)after it got really cold or rainy, but he never did,” Jonathan said. He recalled one day when the weather was particularly bad. “It’s really raining out there today,” he told Simon. “And Simon said, ‘Well then we’re going to get wet!’ He took pride in toughing it out, and it became a really fun family routine.”

Since the start, Simon has run with his dad and their black dog, Lola, and has even inspired his mom, Nicole Sin Quee, to join in. They soon became known as “the family that runs to school”.

But clearly wealth and good health do not guarantee happiness after both countries failed to make the top ten most positive countries.

The survey of nearly 150, 000 people around the world found that seven of the world’s 10 countries with the happiest attitudes are in Latin America.

Gallup asked about 1,000 people in each of 148 countries if they were well-rested, had been treated with respect, smiled or laughed a lot, learned or did something interesting and felt feelings of enjoyment the previous day.

In Panama and Paraguay, 85 percent of those surveyed said yes to all five, putting those countries at the top of the list. They were followed closely by El Salvador, Venezuela, Trinidad and Tobago, Thailand. Guatemala, the Philippines, Ecuador and Costa Rica.

The people least likely to report positive emotions lived in Singapore, the wealthy and orderly city-state that ranks among the most developed in the world. Other wealthy countries also sat surprisingly low on the list. Germany and France tied with the poor African state of Somaliland for 47th place.

Many of the seven countries which were most positive do poorly in traditional measures of well-being, like Guatemala, a country torn by decades of civil war followed by waves of gang-driven criminality that give it one of the highest murder rates in the world. “In Guatemala, it’s a culture of friendly people who are always smiling,” said Luz Castillo, a 30-year-old surfing instructor. “Despite all the problems that we’re facing, we’re surrounded by natural beauty that lets us get away from it all.”

The poll (民意测验) shows that wealthy nations can also be deeply unhappy ones. And poverty-stricken ones are often full of positivity, or at least a close approximation of it.
