1 . First of all, students should respect their teachers. They should pay attention in class. That means saluting (向……致敬) the teacher, standing from your chair when the teacher enters the classroom, attending any lesson attentively, etc. In the class of a certain subject or a teacher you don't like very much, if it’s total anarchy (混乱), how can we talk about respect?

Play by the rules

If your teacher wants you to use wide-lined paper, do it! If he/she tells you to sharpen your pencils only before class starts, listen to him/her. As far as the Internet being a part of our lives--well, that train has left the station. There is no going back to an Internet-free life. But can using the Internet too much be bad for our health? It might be, say researchers. A new study finds that heavy Internet use may be connected to high blood pressure（高血压） in a group---teenagers.

The study results show that teens who spend at least 14 hours a week only online may cause high blood pressure, which makes your heart and blood vessels( 血管) work too hard. Over time, this extra strain (压力) increases their risk of a heart attack. High blood pressure can also cause other diseases.

The Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan did the study. 335 young people, from 14 to 17 years old, took part in it. 134 of the teens were described as “heavy Internet users”. And researchers found that out of these 134 teens, 26 had high blood pressure. The researchers say the study is the first to connect heavy web use with high blood pressure.

The lead researcher of the study is Andrea Cassidy-Bushrow. She said, “Using the Internet is part of our daily life but it shouldn’t ruin us.” Ms. Gassidy-Bushrow adds that it is important for teens to have a rest regularly from their computers or smart phones and do some kind of physical activity. She also suggests that parents shouldn’t let their children use the Internet for more than two hours a day, five days a week.

6 . The setting was a packed gymnasium just before the start of a game against another school. There were five girls who were members of the Danville High School basketball team — all of them starters. They were not in uniform to play that night and would not be on the team for the rest of this season. They were there to admit their breaking learn rules. They were there to support their coach's decision to take them off the team. They were there to let the town know there was a problem in their little community that needed to be addressed. And they did it with sincere regret rather than defensiveness.

While the school had been out for the New Year's holiday, the five girls had gone to the party with several of their friends. There was alcohol there. And they all drank some.

Coach Rainville has a zero tolerance rule on drugs and alcohol for her members though it was a hard decision to make. When classes resumed (恢复) and accounts of holiday parties were shared, rumors about the five girls began closing in on them. The coach said she couldn't back down on her rules. And the players — Iwo junior students and three senior students — agreed. That night in the gym was part of their public support of the coach's decision.

“We hope you will understand that we are not bad kids. What we did was definitely not worth it. We hope this event will make everyone realize that there is a big drug and alcohol problem in our community, one of the senior students said, “And if you work with us to try to solve this problem, you will help us feel that we have not been thrown off our basketball team for nothing." The five left the floor to deafening applause.

The team may not win another game this year. But they've learned something about personal responsibility, the effect of one's action on others, and honesty that will serve them well throughout life.

7 . Having worked for more than a decade in finance in the oil industry in Canada, Tori Fahey found herself wanting more from life. But it wasn't through desperation that her circumstances changed: “I didn't get fed up and storm off, nothing like that; it was curiosity about other interests and wanting to experience something new.”

Fahey left her job and completed an MBA before setting up a move to New York to begin a degree. However, the opportunity of an open year between the MBA and the degree came up, and as a keen touring cyclist, Fahey realised that a much dreamed-about adventure was now becoming a possibility: "The ride in Africa had been on my fantasy list. It was a moment when I realised that I could do anything, so I should."

Fahey rode across Africa, a 7,500-mile trip that took four months. The whole experience had a life-changing impact. Fahey said: “Bicycles provide a literal freedom. You don't allow yourself to feel like that in everyday life because there are so many distractions. But when you' re out on the bike and there's nothing else, you' re really free to experience what life is.”

Post-degree, Fahey worked on projects with the UNDP(United Nations Development Project) in Montenegro with the aim of bringing investment to rural communities.

It was while working on these projects that the seeds were sown for the next new investment. “It was through my trip across Africa that I discovered pannier and rack systems inconvenient and I was never going to use them again.” Little did she know this would lead her to start up her own company.

8 . Children born in the past four decades had the luxury of being the center of their parents’ attention. The entire family’s resources were poured into their education and well-being.

However，when the same resources are split between two children，the amount distributed to each one is going to shrink.

According to the Hangzhou Daily，when there are two children in the family，parents tend to choose public schools instead of private schools，which are usually more expensive. Each child is enrolled in fewer after-school training classes.

But having a second child may cure some deep-rooted problems in China’s traditional family education.

Having two children in the family can help to prevent one child being spoiled by too much attention，according to People’s Daily. It also spares the only child from the pressure of shouldering parental expectations all alone. Taking care of a sibling also enables children to gain a sense of responsibility，cooperation，obedience and caring.

China’s public education system is also expected to shift. Currently，there are not enough vacancies in kindergarten and schools to accommodate the potential increase in children.

“It’s not only the enrollment capacity of educational institutions that will feel the pressure. People are also placing more emphasis on the quality of education，”Peng Xizhe， director of the Population and Development Research Policy Center at Fudan University，told China Education Daily.

He predicts the government may have to invest more to support the educational system as a result of the new family planning measure.

9 . This was the first real task I received in my new school. It seemed simple: go on the Internet and find information about a man named George Washington. As I searched the name, I found that there were two famous people having the same name who looked completely different! One invented hundreds of uses for peanuts(花生), while the other led some sort of army across America. I stared at the screen, wondering which one my teacher meant. I called my grandfather for a golden piece of advice; let the coin decide. I flipped(掷) a coin and Ah! Tails (背面)! My report would be about the great man who invented peanut butter, George Washington Carver.

Weeks later, I stood in front of the classroom and proudly read my homework. But things started to get strange. I looked around the room, only to find my classmates with big smiles on their faces and tears in their eyes and my stone-faced teacher. I was completely lost. “What could be causing everyone to act this way?”

Oh well, I dropped the paper and sat down at my desk, burning to find out what I had done wrong. As a classmate began his report, it all became clear, “My report is on George Washington, the man who started the American War of Independence.” The whole world became quiet! How could I know that my teacher meant that George Washington?

Of course, my subject result was awful. Sad but fearless, I decided to turn this around. I talked to the headmaster Miss Lancelot, but she said firmly: No re-dos; no new score. I felt that it was not fair, and I believed I deserved a second chance. So I threw myself heartily into my work for the rest of the school year. Ten months later, I sat in the headmaster’s office again, but this time a completely different conversation. I smiled and flashed back to the terrible moment at the beginning of the year as the headmaster told me I was good enough to skip(跳过) the 6th grade and started the 7th grade next term.

10 . Barry Farmer didn't have the easiest childhood, but it was an experience that made him who he is today—a foster father（养父）.

“When I was very little, I was going from home to home, living with friends of my parents. ” Farmer said. He then lived with his aunt, followed by a foster home.

When Farmer was four years old, something happened that would change his life forever： He moved in with his grandmother. At his grandmother's house, he had neighborhood friends, a good school and a sense of community. That stability was beneficial to Farmer,

“I lost my parents but I gained a whole village of support. That inspired me to become a foster parent, too," Farmer said.

When he was just 20 years old, he saw an advertisement about how to become a foster parent, "A year after getting licensed, I got my first case," he said. Farmer said social workers were not willing to assign（分配）him cases since he was not old enough, but he finally got his first child.

About a month after that child moved out, Farmer received another case. Farmer decided to take in 8-year-old Jaxon, “He was supposed to be with me temporarily," Farmer said. However, when Jaxon moved out, he was placed with a family who was supposed to adopt him but he didn't like it, "He missed me and I missed him because I wasn't really prepared for him to go,” Farmer said, "That's when I made a decision to keep him. ”

Foster care itself is so unpredictable. You don't know what to expect once you sign up," Farmer said, “There's no easy way to foster. It's an emotional（情感上的）journey. And you have to put your own personal feelings aside to make sure you're doing what's best for the children. But at last, both you and your foster children can benefit a lot. ”
