2 . A 3-year-old boy called Casey who was lost in the woods for two days is now safe at home with his family. But he told his rescuers that he was not alone in the rainy, freezing cold woods. He said he was with a friend --- a bear.

The child went missing on January 22 while playing with friends at his grandfather's house in the southern state of North Carolina. When the other children returned to the house and Casey did not, the family searched the area for almost an hour before calling the police.

Police formed a search and rescue team to look for the young boy in the nearby woods. But two days went by and still no Casey.

Then on January 24, someone called the police saying they heard a child crying in the woods. Police followed up on the information and found Casey at about 9:30 that night. They pulled him out of some briar(多刺野灌木). He was in good health.

Casey told the rescuers that he had hung out with a black bear for two days, a bear he called his "friend".

Officer Hughes spoke with reporters from several agencies. He said Casey did not say how he was able to survive the woods for three days in the cold, rainy weather. However, he said, "Casey did say he had a friend in the woods that was a bear. And at no point do I think he was taken away illegally."

Doctors at Carolina East Medical Center treated Casey for minor injuries. He was then released to his family on January 25.

His mother Brittany Hathaway talked with reporters from a local news agency and thanked everyone who joined in the search and rescue efforts.

3 . Some parents worry kids spend a lot of time looking at screens. But a new study argues against that unease parents may feel. “The danger is that they’re hearing a message that social media use is causing very serious and harmful problems like depression and anxiety. Candice Odgers, professor at the University of California, explained. And the idea is that if you shut off social media, which lots of kids use to connect with each other and find out information, you could in fact be making a situation worse. ”

Odgers and her colleagues looked at the screen-related behavior of 400 public-school students in North Carolina aged 10 to 14. The researchers found that—even not counting time doing schoolwork on screens—the kids spent between almost 5 hours to 7 hours per day on their devices. “Overall, what we find is no connection between the amount of time that young people spend online and mental health symptoms like depression, anxiety”. What they actually found was something jaw-dropping. Young people who sent more text messages reported better mental health. Odgers was not alone there. Journal Clinical Psychological Science recently announced, “people who use technology in the positive ways to stay connected off-line often, are more connected online as well and experiencing better mental health.”

So why are the fears about screen time? Odgers argues that the methodologies (方法论)for older studies may have led to false conclusions. “One of the methods that’s been done to date has been asking students to recall   “How often are you online?” and “ Have you ever felt depressed?” And the correlation between those two things has been used to spread a lot of fear about this connection between social media use and things like depression, 99. 5 percent of the reasons that kids differ in their depression is due to something other than the time they spend online though.”

Parents get a lot of advice, and some of it always seems to conflict. “The hope is that more parents will hear this message and relax and spend kind of less time worrying about smartphones and more time just talking to their kids.”

D.Shutting off social media made things worse in the end.
3. Which of the following will Odgers probably agree with according to paragraph 3?
A.There is too much fear about screen time among people.
B.Students have been asked improper questions about screen time.

It’s easy to find books, share books, and meet fellow book lovers.

Step 1. Label

Register your book for FREE, and get a unique BookCrossing ID (BCID). This ID allows you to follow your specific book. There are several ways you can label your book:

Download free BookCrossing labels here and print them from your computer.

Create custom labels with our Bookplate Creator using your own image and message.

Step 2. Share

Give it away. Pass your book on to a friend, or a stranger! You can find someone in the BookCrossing community who’s looking for your book and make their day by sending it to them. These particular methods are referred to as “controlled releases”.

Release it into the wild. Referred to as “wild releases”, this type of sharing needs you to leave your labeled book on a park bench or in a train station — anywhere it’s likely to be caught by another delighted reader.

Be creative! BookCrossers might establish an “Official BookCrossing Zone”, a physical location where books are regularly caught and / or released. They may start a “bookring”, “bookray” or “bookbox”, all of which are controlled ways of passing books throughout a set group of members.

Step 3. Follow

5 . "The music will not vanish," said Zhang Yadong,a famous Chinese music producer, in an interview with CGTN,expressing his strong belief in the power of today’s young musicians.

China’s new popular variety show "The Big Band,"debuted (首演)in May, is bringing some incredibly talented Chinese rock bands into the mainstream. As one of the judges, or "Super Fans", Zhang has grabbed the spotlight for his professional remarks on the show. Zhang, who started his career as a music producer in the early 1990s, has composed, recorded and produced several hit songs and albums for notable Chinese singers and bands.

Although Zhang admitted the importance of having a unique style and innovative (创新的)music, he emphasized the necessity of hard work. He said he respects talent, but he doesn’t think it is reliable. "Music is my profession, which cannot just rely on talent,"he said, "I have to work hard to keep myself sharp all the time."

According to a 2018 report by the Communication University of China, nearly 30 percent of Chinese musicians earn nothing from their music and 70 percent have to find part-time jobs. "The cost is quite high for today’s music producers, who need the support of expensive equipment," said Zhang. "It is convenient for users to download unauthorized content, but musicians may lose their motivation to create new content because their efforts seem to have gone in vain. Luckily, music copyrights have been strengthened as numerous policies to crack down on (打击)pirated music on the Internet have come into effect." Zhang agrees that these measures are helpful, and that record companies should not sign unequal contracts with musicians by taking advantage of their desire to be famous.

Decades have passed since Zhang came to Beijing to pursue his dream. Chinese popular music, meanwhile, has continued to transform and develop. Zhang said today’s young musicians are more stressed due to fiercer competition. However, he thinks they are hopeful and should not be underestimated. "I believe the changes are from quantity to quality," said Zhang. "I hope more people can write songs and fall in love with music." For more: click here.

7 . Optimism (乐观) doesn’t mean paying no attention to things that cause stress. But when bad things happen, optimistic people are less likely to be unhappy about themselves and more likely to see the bad things as something that lasts a short time.

A new research has found a direct connection between optimism and healthier diet and exercise behaviors, as well as better heart health, a stronger immune system (免疫系统), better lung function, and lower death risk. “Optimistic people, regardless of sex, often have goals and the confidence to reach them,” Lee said. “Those goals could include healthy habits that contribute to a longer life.”

Studies find only about 25% of our optimism is controlled by our genes (基因), and the rest is up to us. It turns out we can actually train our brain to be more positive. Researchers studied the brains of monks (僧侣) and found surprising results: Tens of thousands of hours of meditation(冥思) had changed the function (机能) of their brains, which support positive qualities. And that may be key in producing the effect on the body.

There are simple mental exercises to develop an optimistic attitude. One of the most effective ways to increase optimism is called the “Best Possible Self” method. That is to imagine ourselves in a future in which we have achieved all our life goals. And keeping a diary in which we list the positive experiences we had can also help shape our attitude. Taking a few minutes each day to write down what makes us thankful can improve our view on life, too.

And so when I got there I was turned away.”

10 . Mankind’s most famous “eye in the sky” turned 30 this year, taking a beautiful image of “space clouds” to celebrate.

The Hubble Space Telescope, known to most simply as “Hubble”, was sent into space on April 24, 1990. The telescope, one of our best space exploration tools, uses a large mirror to collect light and direct it into a powerful digital camera. This allows it to see parts of outer space that are located 10 to 15 billion light-years away.

Each year on its birthday, the telescope takes a new image to celebrate. On its 30th birthday, Hubble took an image titled “Cosmic Reef”. The picture shows two big clouds of cosmic dust and gas: the giant red nebula NGC 2014 and a smaller blue nebula called NGC 2020, according to Space. The title of the image comes from NGC 2014’s appearance, as it looks like a large reef of red coral.

Hubble has made many important discoveries over the last 30 years. For example, the telescope helped us discover four of Pluto’s five moons. This discovery made it possible to plan a mission for the New Horizons probe, which took never-before-seen images of Pluto in 2015. The telescope has also taken photos of pulsating stars. The regular pulses of light that come from these stars allow us to calculate the age of the universe, which is currently believed to be 13.7 billion years old.

But Hubble’s work is not done yet. It is expected to continue working through the 2020s, when it will be joined by its successor, the James Webb Space Telescope, according to CNET.

1. What is the text mainly about?
A.How the Hubble Space Telescope works.
B.The Hubble telescope’s 30th anniversary.
C.How the Hubble Space Telescope has helped us explore space.
D.How scientists chose the follower of the Hubble telescope.
2. What can we learn from the passage about the Hubble Space Telescope?
A.It was the best space exploration tool.
B.It was designed to be in service for about 40 years.
C.It can see the whole outer space.
D.The James Webb Space Telescope will take place of it soon.
3. How is the telescope’s birthday celebrated each year?
A.By titling a new space picture.B.By naming a new nebula.
C.By taking a new image of space.D.By taking a new image of itself.
4. Where is the passage most likely to be found?
A.A magazine.B.A novel.
C.A report.D.An advertisement.
