Last week, a grand ceremony paying respect to Huangdi,    1     legendary ancestor of the Chinese nation,     2     (hold) at the Xiandu Scenic Spot in Jinyun, Zhejiang province, on the Chongyang Festival.

The ceremony,     3     started at 9:50 am, consisted of nine parts, including striking bells, offering flower baskets and wine to a carols. It     4     (have) the theme of "showing respect to Chinese ancestors with efforts all over the world and opening new     5    (chapter) for attaining common prosperity". During the ceremony, drums were played 34 times and bells were rung 15 times,     6     (represent) 1.5 billion Chinese from 34 provinces, municipalities，autonomous regions and special administrative regions in China and overseas Chinese.

The     7     (year) ceremony for Huangdi in Jinyun dates back     8     the Eastern Jin Dynasty. Showing respect to Huangdi in the new times is reverence (敬畏) for the ancestors who started the Chinese civilization. What's     9     (much), it can inspire the Chinese     10     (unite), helping build the common spiritual home for all Chinese.

When I first moved to Australia from New York, I bought a house     1    was within walking distance(距离)from a big park.

The second morning I moved in the house ,I went for     2     walk in the park. Not far away there were a couple of horses galloping(飞奔)freely. I was attracted(吸引) by the horses, so I kept     3     (look) ahead while walking. Suddenly, I felt myself stepping onto something, There were a pair of kids' running shoes lying on the ground. I was rather    4     (worry) more runners might step onto the shoes, so I put     5     (they) on a bench(长椅). Then I turned around. Approaching(靠近)my house ,I saw my neighbor walking in the direction of the park. Seeing me running back from the park, she asked, "Hi, Mel, did you happen     6     (see) some runners in the park?" I didn't see anyone, so I answered, “No." Then she said, “I'd better check by myself." Hurriedly, she walked to the park.

Soon she     7     (come) back with a pair of running shoes in her hand. Then it hit me that in Australian English "runners" can mean "running shoes" as well. I explained     8    her that I didn't quite get what she was looking for. In a very nice manner, she replied, “That's OK. You will    9     (gradual) get used to our way of shortening    10     (word)."

I think it is a big challenge for me to be     1     freshman at senior high school. I had to think very     2     (careful) which courses I wanted to take and my     3     (advise) recommended that I should sign up     4     advanced literature. However, I hope to be fluent in Chinese when I graduate,     5     it’s difficult. Besides, I had to choose extra-curricular    6    (activity), too. Whatever difficulty I met, I wanted     7    (join) the school football team and a     8     (voluntary) club. In     9     end, I know I must work hard and be     10     (responsibility) as a senior high school student.
