A group of musicians from China, Germany and Switzerland joined hands in a special concert to celebrate the 100-day countdown to the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. The event, also known as China Media Group(CMG) China-Europe Music Festival,    1    (hold) under the theme “The World in Unity”.

It’s part of a program of special events running up to the Winter Olympics, which will begin on February 4, 2022. Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC),    2    (announce) in a video message that it would be another milestone for Beijing, the first city to host both summer and winter events.

The concert    3    (lead) by British-Swiss conductor Howard Griffiths, Swiss conductor Jean-Christophe Monnier and Chinese conductor Zhao Yuan was staged at venues(会场) in Geneva and Berlin. The concert caught wide attention as    4    included performances from world-class musicians.

Bach added, “The beautiful performances by this talented group of international artists show that inspirational moments are possible when we are dreaming together. This is    5    sport and music are all about: bringing all people together, making us dream, motivating us with    6    (beautiful) and excellence, and filling our hearts    7    joy.”

CMG President Shen Haixiong said, “Sport and music are the common language of all mankind. Artists from different countries perform wonderfully    8    (express) their sincere wishes for the success of the Beijing Winter Olympics. Last week, a grand ceremony paying respect to Huangdi,    1     legendary ancestor of the Chinese nation,     2     (hold) at the Xiandu Scenic Spot in Jinyun, Zhejiang province, on the Chongyang Festival.

The ceremony,     3     started at 9:50 am, consisted of nine parts, including striking bells, offering flower baskets and wine to a carols. It     4     (have) the theme of "showing respect to Chinese ancestors with efforts all over the world and opening new     5    (chapter) for attaining common prosperity". During the ceremony, drums were played 34 times and bells were rung 15 times,     6     (represent) 1.5 billion Chinese from 34 provinces, municipalities，autonomous regions and special administrative regions in China and overseas Chinese.

Showing respect to Huangdi in the new times is reverence (敬畏) for the ancestors who started the Chinese civilization. In October 2017,Margaret called a number that she believed belonged to (属于)her grandson Barry,and when he didn't pick up, she     1    (leave) him a voicemail. The Xi’an City Wall is the most complete city wall that has survived China’s long history. It     1     (build) originally to protect the city     2     the Tang dynasty and has now been completely restored (修复). It is possible       3     (walk) or bike the entire 14 kilometers.

We accessed the wall through the South Gate. The wall is 12 meters high and from here you can see streams of people moving inside and outside the City Wall.

After     4     (spend) some time looking at all the defensive equipment at the wall, we decided it was time for some action and what     5     (good) than to ride on a piece of history!

We     6     (hire) our bikes from the rental place at the South Gate. My bike was old and shaky     7     did the job. It took us about 3 hours to go all     8     way around the Xi’an City Wall. Supposedly you can do it in two hours, but we stopped at the different gates and     9     (watchtower) to take pictures or just to watch the local people going about their     10     (day) routines.

Today I will introduce the Tomb-sweeping Festival. Tomb-sweeping Festival(清明节), or Qingming Festival in Chinese, is     1     festival to worship(敬奉) ancestors in China and usually falls     2     April 4 or April 5. Tomb-sweeping Festival can be traced back to Eastern Zhou Dynasty (770BC—256BC), with a history of over 2500     3     (year). According to the tradition, people eat cold food during this festival.

Around Tomb-sweeping Festival, people visit their ancestors’ tombs(坟墓) with food, wine, fruits, joss sticks(香烛) and zhiqian(纸钱). Food, wine and fruits     4     (put)in the front of the tomb and then the joss sticks and zhiqian are burned. Also, people should     5     (clean) weeds and sweep away leaves around the tomb     6     (show )their respect to their ancestors.

Qingming is a festival as well as one of the Chinese 24 solar terms(二十四节气),    7     means the change of air temperatures, rainfall and biotemperature(生物温度), and farmers arrange their farming activities     8     (active). Qingming is the solar term implies the coming of spring and the increase of rains and temperature. It is a best time for ploughing(耕作) and sowing as well as for spring outing. Therefore, after the festival, farmers are busy in     9     (do) their farming works, and people go out for fresh air and kinds of sports activities, like riding on the swing, and flying kites.

This is     10     we call the Chinese Qingming Festival.
