We believe that acts of kindness can change the world for the     1     (good). On April 28,       2     (country) across the world will unite with one common goal:to stand for kindness together. Pay It Forward Day helps conduct a series of goodness     3     (feel) across the globe.

Pay It Forward Day, a worldwide celebration of kindness,     4     (create) in 2010 in the United States, working hard to bring forward     5     concept of paying it forward to the world at large. We are excited that we now have over 80 countries     6     (participate)   in Pay it Forward Day with over 100 state and city proclamations.

Lots of foreigners don’t understand why so many Chinese people are sorrowful about Yuan Longping’s passing away.

This reminds me     1     an issue more than 20 years ago,     2     I was a Chinese journalist in the US. Some American scholars     3     (think) China could hardly realize food-sufficiency because of the     4     (limit) water resources, decrease of agricultural land due to industrial     5     (expand) and the fast population growth. Just at that time, Yuan Longping announced breakthroughs in planting the new rice.     6     (bring) to large area application, this technique improved the annual growth of rice greatly, which fed     7     population of 60 million--equal to the whole of the UK.

Western scholars’ prediction of China back then was indeed analyzing China’s problems, but they failed     8     (realize) that the Chinese people have the capability to deal with these challenges.

If they had had any knowledge of Yuan who worked devotedly for our country, they wouldn’t have made such pessimistic evaluations. Why did the Chinese people make     9    ? Why are so many predictions about China in the West     10    (accurate)? It’s time to change minds to better understand China.

I have been in Taiyuan, the provincial capital of Shanxi, for two years since I     1     (admit) to a PhD program in Shanxi University as an international student from Bangladesh.

Over the two years, I found myself     2     (fall) in love with Shanxi and China. I liked to cycle on the streets in Taiyuan and visit places I encountered     3     (random). Zhang Guimei, devoted to education in China’s southwestern borders for 40 years, is     1       “mother” for more than 170 children, motivating young girls from poor families in mountainous areas. She has lit up hopes of many for education.

Zhang was born in Mudanjiang, Heilongjiang province in 1957. She came to Yunnan province at 17,     2     (respond) to the call of the country to support the development of border areas. Teaching at a middle school there, she saw the low     3     (admit) of girls to high school. It saddened her so much to find out that these girls     4     (abandon) their school work long before due to poverty.     5     , Zhang decided to build a free all-girl high school in 2002, in hope of changing the destiny of the girls in the mountain.

In 2007, Zhang went to Beijing as a deputy for the 17th CPC National Congress. A year later, the school was completed as the first free all-girl high school in China.

Most of us think that the world’s oldest color is black or dark gray. However, scientists have discovered that bright pink is the oldest     1    (know) color. They looked at the 1.1 billion-year-old rock deep beneath the Sahara Desert.     2    (make) powder from the rock, then they found the bright pink color. Dr. Nur Gueneli     3     comes from the Australian National University led the research. She said it     4    (produce) by ancient organisms that lived in old oceans. At that time, tiny organisms were     5     most common life forms on Earth.

Dr. Gueneli said her first     6    (react) was complete amazement. She said her team thought the rock powder might turn black in their experiments. However, it turned pink. It turned out to be a real color, 1.1 billion years old.'” The rock could contain other colors, from blood red to deep purple. Gueneli accounted     8     the importance of her findings. China plans to establish a scientific station on the moon and has started preparatory research, according to a key figure in the country’s lunar exploration program.

“The next steps in our lunar exploration endeavor will be challenging and demanding as we aim to set up a     1    (science) outpost on the moon’s south pole. In the near future, we will also send our     2     (astronaut) to land on the moon,” said Wu Weiren, chief designer of China’s lunar exploration program and     3     academician (院士) of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, on Tuesday.
