文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了在冬天长距离步行的好处及注意事项。

3 . Winter is often a low point for outdoor lovers, as cold weather pushes them indoors. However, winter can be a beautiful time of year for a winter trail walk.     1

Generally, winter walking presents dangers.     2     You will need to wear appropriate clothing and always have proper footwear for your winter walking.

Above all, you should dress warmly. The best way to dress for cold weather exercise is to wear more layers. When you warm up from the exercise, you can take off layers so you will never become over heated.     3

Shoes are a very important aspect of winter walking. Instead of using regular shoes on a winter walk, consider trying a pair of snowshoes, a fun way to enjoy your trail.     4     With snowshoes, you will still need to wear good waterproof shoes.

5     Spend some time finding a trail that is open and safe to walk on during the winter. If you can’t find a trail that fits your requirements, you can come up with an alternative plan. Walk around your local neighborhoods to view the holiday lights or go to your local park where you will probably find some sort of walking trail that is accessible during the winter.

A.Nor will you suffer from being too cold.
B.Stay focused while you are out walking.
C.You may find your favorite trail closed during the winter.
D.You will be more steady on the snow and get a better workout.
E.So why not continue to spend time outside, taking winter trail walks?
F.The severer the weather is, the more careful you need to be when walking.
G.A trail that normally gets lots of traffic may be empty during the winter.

Scientists have found that even adding just an additional 500 steps each day brings significant health benefits in later life,     1     (cut) the risk of a stroke and heart problems.

The new study analysed health data for 452 people     2     used an accelerometer device similar to a pedometer, worn at the hip (臀部),     3     (measure) their daily step count.

4     (compare) to adults who took fewer than 2,000 steps per-day, people who took about 4,500 were 77 per centless likely to experience a cardiovascular (心血管) event in the 3.5 years follow-up. It means that every additional 500     5     (step) lowered the risk of heart issues by 14 per cent.

“We were surprised to find that every additional quarter of a mile, or 500 steps, of walking had such a strong benefit     6     heart health,” said Dr Erin Dooley, an     7     (assist) professor of epidemiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Public Health.

More up-to-date research     8     (find) that health effects can be steady after 4,500 steps, while others suggest between 6,000 and 8,000 is the sweet spot for fighting chronic illness like heart problems and cancer. “Steps are an easy way to measure physical activity, and more daily steps were associated with a     9     (low) risk of having a cardiovascular disease-related event in older adults,” added Dr Dooley, the lead author of the study. “    10    , most studies have focused on early-to-midlife adults with daily goals of 10,000 or more steps, which may not be available for older individuals.”

文章大意:这是一篇新闻报道。文章主要讲述了一项对于人们每天步行数的研究。研究表明,人们所认为的健康生活标志“一万步法则”是不恰当的。

7 . You’ve probably heard that you need to move more throughout the day, and as a general rule of thumb, “more” is often defined as around 10,000 steps. Many people use the 10,000-step rule as their marker for healthy living. As more people track their steps by fitness-tracking wearable or their iPhones, more of them do that.

But while sitting less is a great idea, the step rule isn’t as black and white as one number.

Dr. Creg Hager, professor at Johns Hopkins, decided to take a closer look at whether the step rule is accurate, and he found asking everyone to shoot for 10,000 steps each day could be harmful to the elderly, or the level of exercise could make it unwise for those with medical conditions. He also noted that those with shorter legs have an easier time hitting the 10,000-step goal because they have to take more steps than loge-egged people to cover the distance.

How many steps can help keep healthy and promote longevity (长寿) on earth?

Researchers found that women taking 4,400 steps per day were about 40% less likely to die during a follow-up period of just over four years, compared to those who took 2,700 steps. Women in the study who walked more than 7,500 steps each day got no extra in longevity. The bottom line is that 10,000 steps may be too many for some and too few for others. Some of that has to do with age but nothing to do with health and longevity. The study included nearly 17,000 women with an average age of 72.

The point of these studies isn’t to say we should abandon step goals and fitness trackers altogether. The key is finding the step goal that matches your individual health according to your doctor or fitness instructor, and then using your fitness tracker and other proper methods to help achieve those goals.

1. What do people usually take as their standard of healthy living?
A.The 10,000-step rule.B.The fitness tracking wearables.
C.The level of exercise.D.The point of these studies.
2. Which best describes Dr. Greg Hager’s attitude towards the step rule?
A.Optimistic.B.Negative.C.Skeptical.D.Favorable.
3. What did the researchers find?
A.Following 10,000 steps each day could be harmful to the elderly.
B.Taking steps may not be directly related to people’s longevity.
C.Walking during the day is closely linked to the death of the elderly.
D.Older women with an average age of 72 in the study lived longer.
4. What might the passage say next?
A.The approaches to these goals.B.The step goals with abandon.
C.The health for individuals.D.The secret of longevity.

文章大意:本文是说明文。文章主要介绍了一种新的运动方式——绿色运动,不同于在使用健身房的健身设施,更强调与大自然的接触,表明其利弊。

9 . Green exercise is a term used to describe any type of physical exercise that takes place in a natural environment rather than in a health club or gym.     1    . Instead, it relies on the use of natural means of taking part in activities that improve strength and endurance with as little reliance on equipment as possible.

2    . For example, some consider a truly natural exercise experience requires that the individual wear clothing only made from natural fibers. Others consider barefoot running or walking with a big arena to be more desirable than running or walking with shoes.

A slightly different approach to green exercise puts more stress on the fresh air, sunshine and involvement with the natural world, rather than the equipment or clothing used during the exercise.     3    . Similarly, climbing a mountain using standard equipment and protective clothing would also be considered a green exercise.

Many consider green exercise helps to reconnect human beings with the natural world. The interaction with nature helps to lower people's blood pressure, refresh their mind, and actually improve their self-esteem.     4    .

Not everyone believes that the green exercise is more beneficial than working out in a health club or gym.     5    . Meanwhile, the use of fitness devices may result in more challenging workouts which help strengthen the heart and lungs in ways that more simplistic exercise in a natural setting would be difficult to manage.

A.A green gym uses as little equipment as possible
B.Spirits are also believed to be positively affected
C.Opinions on what truly green exercise means differ
D.Green exercise includes a range of activities exposed to nature
E.So riding a bicycle in the forest can be called a type of green exercise
F.It usually doesn't use fitness equipment that is normally found in a gym
G.Some point out that many health clubs are built to make full use of natural light
