文章大意:本文是一篇新闻报道,主要讲述了香港红十字医院学校为住院或需要在家康复的学生提供教育服务,以便帮助他们减少返校的困难。

1 . HONG KONG — At the school where Ko Cheuk-kiu works, there are neither school bells ringing nor students running around the playground. “You look good today. Shall we review the text together?” After greeting her student Hei Hei, Ko, in a light blue uniform, turns on her tablet computer and begins to teach at the bedside.

Founded in 1954, the Hong Kong Red Cross Hospital Schools initially provided services in only one public medical institution. Now, it is a special education institute funded by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government, with 26 school units attached to 19 public hospitals. Its services are mainly divided into three fields — general specialty, psychiatry, and homebound teaching programs. The first two provide services for hospitalized students to reduce their difficulties in returning to school, while homebound teaching is aimed at students who need to stay at home to recover for a long period. Teachers are assigned to different hospitals or students’ homes and shift on a regular basis. Depending on the situation, teachers will carry out small group or one-on-one bedside teaching, and each session lasts about 30 minutes.

“Teaching children in a hospital? I was curious and keen to know more about it,” Ko recalls, explaining she first learned about the school from a newspaper report in 2009 when she had just finished her master’s degree in language. Ko, who also studied special education, applied for a teaching position at the school and was hired as a Chinese language teacher.

Teachers in hospitals have to meet students with different medical conditions and face all kinds of challenges every day, but Ko regards these experiences as training, which have led her to have a deeper appreciation of life. Over the years, Ko has received a lot of greeting cards from parents and students showing their appreciation. Looking at these warm words of encouragement, she silently sends her best wishes to the students. “I hope they can soon recover and go back to school, and continue to pursue their dreams,” she says.

文章大意:本文是一篇议论文。文章主要讲述一些人认为男性的思维方式是一样的,但是作者持不同的观点。

3 . We all know that men and women have their differences. But do they really think differently?     1     In my opinion, men and women still behave in the same way that they were designed to centuries ago. We have different interests, different ways of speaking, of showing how we feel, and of coping with stressful situations.

2     This can have a negative effect on our relationships. We often become angry or frustrated with the opposite sex because we expect them to behave and communicate like we do. So why does a man behave as he does? Evidence suggests that men were programmed with the instinct to hunt silently for animals. They had to be able to focus their attention on one thing.     3     And also why he’s so good at reading maps and giving directions.

Women, on the other hand, are usually very good at doing several jobs at once.     4     In the past, women often worked in groups, which required a lot of communication, so they’re generally more talkative and sensitive to other people’s feelings.

Men and women seem to think differently too. Women usually score higher in writing tests. Men are seven times more likely to score in the top 5% in scientific exams. They’re often talented at problem-solving and making quick decisions.     5

A.Women, by contrast, are good at organizing, comforting and giving advice.
B.It is true, nevertheless, that men and women often respond differently to the same situation.
C.Some people might argue that they don’t, but I disagree.
D.They also need far more time to complete tasks that require strength or stamina (耐力) .
E.In today’s society, where the sexes are considered to be equal, we sometimes forget how different we are.
F.This can also be explained by history, I believe.
G.This might explain why it’s so difficult to have a conversation with a man when he’s watching TV.

The accident happened while the elderly man was taking his granddaughter home after a dentist’s appointment. They had stopped at a traffic light when the girl saw the car fall into the river.

7 . It was through Bill Bryson’s book The Lost Continent: Travel in Small-Town America that I first experienced small-town travelling. I was interested instantly on reading it, for driving across the countryside is always something I like.

1     True, the convenience and modernity are what small towns don’t have. However, caught up in the crowd, people tend to lose the true meaning of life. They are moving quickly in the streets, as if there were steamy lava (炙热的熔岩) chasing them.

Many tourists don’t realize the real purpose for travelling is to relax.     2     They manage to escape a nine-to-five schedule of annoying work, only to dive into a nine-to-five schedule of shopping or forcing themselves into packed tourist sites.     3     You don’t get trapped in space filled with tourists, but miles of fields and woods. You don’t get tiny parks with crowds of people, but natural forests where rare animals can be seen. Villagers say hi to you warmly as you drive here and farmers will warmly invite you home.

I once travelled to the Midwest and drove through the countryside. The scenery was absolutely magnificent.     4     Farmers’ houses were in and out of sight behind golden corn. Ponds (池塘) hid themselves behind woods, where a lone fisherman sat there, enjoying life.

Suddenly, it seemed to me that life couldn’t be better. Just throw away the sadness and burdens (负担) that annoy us. What matters is the simple happiness of enjoying life.     5

A.I have never been a fan of huge cities.
B.Cities are full of people we don’t know.
C.Roads found their way through cornfields.
D.Big cities and small towns have their own uniqueness.
E.In big cities, they just leave one busy center, and get right into another.
F.Those problems, however, simply disappear into air in the countryside.
G.So why not leave the noisy cities behind, and get lost in the streets of small towns?

8 . Kyra Peralte thought keeping a diary during the pandemic (流行病) might help her sort out her feelings. In April 2020, the mother of two in Montclair, New Jersey, now 46, started writing about the challenges of work, marriage and motherhood during a global crisis. She invited women from near and far to fill the notebook with their own pandemic tales. She named the project The Traveling Diary.

10 . Canada’s new Dark Vessel Detection program is using advanced satellite technology to find illegal fishing ships that attempt to steal fish from waters around the world. Illegal fishing is a major contributor to the decrease of fish and their habitat destruction.

It is said that illegal fishing accounts for about 30 percent of fishing activity worldwide. It means that u to 26 million tons of fish are caught at a cost to the global economy of more than $ 23 billion a year. Illegal fishing occurs both on the high seas and within the 200 mile limits of coastal states. It has an especially negative effect on coastal populations in undeveloped areas.

Now, the government’s Fisheries and Oceans Canada, in partnership with the Department of National Defense and MDA (Canada’s space technology maker), has started a new program that has already led to fines on five foreign ships. The $7 million Dark Vessel Detection program uses satellite technology to locate and track ships. Some illegal fishing ships have switched off their location transmitting (传输) equipment, in an attempt to avoid surveillance (监视) and control.

The program offers state-of- the-art satellite data to small island nations and coastal states around the world. The local economies of those places are often influenced by illegal fishing. Finding illegal fishing ships from space will allow these small island nations to focus on their investigations and protect their fish.

“Illegal fishing threatens the health of our fish population and takes resources (资源) away from hard- working, legal fishermen,” said Bernadette Jordan, the Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, “This state -of the art system will help Ecuador and small island nations in the Pacific region deal with illegal fishing. Such illegal activity will do great harm to the Galapagos Islands and the food and economic security of its people,” she added.

1. What is the purpose of Canada’s new Dark Vessel Detection program?
A.To prevent sea pollution.B.To assess the loss of fish farms.
C.To observe endangered fish species.D.To protect the fish population worldwide.
2. What does the data in Paragraph 2 show?
A.The difficulties of undeveloped countries.B.The slowdown in the global economy.
C.The seriousness of illegal fishing.D.The general result of overfishing.
3. How do some illegal fishermen get rid of surveillance?
A.By speeding up their ships.B.By finding remote fishing areas.
C.By hiding signals of their ships.D.By fishing in the middle of the night.
4. What can be inferred from Bernadette Jordan’s words?
A.Island nations tend to suffer food shortages.
B.The interests of legal fishermen are threatened.
C.The tracking system will be applied to more fields.
D.Stricter laws will be made for the fishing industry.
