The traditional Chinese lunar calendar divides the year    1     24 solar terms. Winter Solstice (冬至) comes as the 22nd solar term of the year. On the first day of the Winter Solstice, the Northern Hemisphere experiences the    2     (short) day and the longest night in the year, as the sun shines directly at the Tropic of Capricorn (南回归线). From then on, the days become longer and the nights become shorter. The Winter Solstice also marks the    3     (arrive) of the coldest season in the year.

There was     4     saying in ancient China, “The Winter Solstice is as important as the Spring Festival.” As early as the Zhou Dynasty, great events    5    (hold) on the day of the Winter Solstice,     6     was also considered the first day of the new year.

The country's agricultural minister Julia Klockner proposed a law that would order dog owners to walk their dogs at least twice a day for a total of an hour or more     2     (let) their dogs take enough exercise. The law also includes a limit for dog owners on     5     number of dogs they can keep.

Yesterday I went shopping in the town. I was using my crutches(拐杖)on     1     were two bags. I really struggled through the shopping mall. I was     2    (tire)! After a while, I found a space and had     3     rest there.

Then I noticed Michael. He was my former student and he was a man     4     his 40s. It's been years since I     5    (teach) Michael, but he stopped to chat with me. Max Bobholz was only 12 years old when he came up with the idea of creating a charity to provide baseball equipment for children in Africa.

While watching baseball, his favorite sport, on TV     1     2012, Max learned that teams from Africa didn’t have proper equipment to play baseball. They either made equipment themselves     2     had to share the very few items they had among all the children.

Max thought about all the bats, balls and equipment he and his friends had in their garages and homes. Then,     3     (inspire) by his baseball coach, Williquete, and those who were active in charity, he determined to take action and help. Thus, an influential charity     4     (set) up. Known as Angels at Bats, Max’s charity has donated over, 10, 000 pieces of equipment to kids in need since its founding! Besides donations, Max has traveled to Africa several times     5     (teach) the kids and donate equipment, developing Angels at Bat into     6     it is today.

Angels at Bat has now grown to include nine branches in eight     7     (state) around the USA. And it is the primary source of baseball equipment for the entire of Kenya.

Max was honored     8     one of the five CNN Young Wonders of 2018 for his inspiring spirit of giving and service. “Anybody at any age can make     9       difference.
