Peter lived in a village. He was always upset and treated others     1     (bad). He enjoyed himself by making other     2     (villager) unhappy. So the whole village avoided     3     (he) as much as they could. On the day when he turned eighty,     4     unusual thing happened. Everyone     5     (hear) the words. “Peter looks happy today. Instead of     6     (say) something bad, he smiles to everyone he meets.” When the whole village got together, Peter     7     (ask) why. He answered, “I’d been running after my happiness     8     eighty years, but it was     9     (use). And then I decided to live without it and just enjoy life. Pan Junfan, a one-legged man from East China’s Wenling City, sets a new world record in an extreme hiking competition through the Gobi Desert in Northwest China’s Gansu Province.

The 40-year-old     1     (lose) the lower part of his right leg in a traffic accident in 2015,     2    was a turning point in his life. He said although the accident was a terrible experience, it turned him into a     3     (total) different person, a tougher man.

    4     (inspire) by a video of extreme hiking, he set up a goal for himself — to complete an extreme hiking race one year later in the Gobi Desert. Intensive training helped him gradually adapt     5    the fast walking and running. In 2016, he took part in an extreme hiking competition and became     6     first amputee (被截肢者) to complete the entire journey. “I hope that by completing the challenge I can inspire people and tell them that life has limitless possibilities and not to stop     7     (try) something different,” Pan says. Since then, he has gone on to break multiple world    8     (record) as an amputee in extreme hiking. His     9     (determine) has encouraged many people in the whole world     10     (find) opportunity in difficulty.

I can remember some things about my childhood. Some are unhappy. I remember my first visit    1    the zoo. I saw a lion and    2    eagle. The lion was very lazy, and he    3    (sleep) all the time. He was very    4    (bore) to me. The eagles suddenly flew in the air and frightened me. I started to cry!

Of course some memories are happy. I remember the day when my father tried to teach me how    5    (ride) a bicycle. I wasn't very good at it. I said, “I don't want to do this!" But my father was very    6    (patience) and very soon he taught me how to do it. Now I ride my bicycle every day and I'm much    7    (fast) than my father! And I also remember my first day at kindergarten very    8    (clear). There were so many children! I only knew one of them, a boy    9    (live) in the apartment next door. I was very nervous. However,    10    we started playing with some toys, I soon stopped feeling nervous.
