After nearly three years of detention (拘留) in Canada, Huawei Technologies CFO Meng Wanzhou returned to China on Saturday.

    1    (step) out of the charter flight arranged by the Chinese government, Meng expressed her gratitude to those     2     cared about her during a brief speech in front of a crowd at Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport.

Meng was detained in December 2018 at Vancouver International Airport on a U. S. warrant charging her with bank fraud (欺诈罪) for allegedly misleading HSBC Holdings about Huawei’s business dealings in Iran. Starting from Nov 1, 2020, people will be knocking on doors across the country to collect personal information. This is for the seventh national population census (人口普查). China     1     (conduct) a national survey every 10 years since the 1990s.

In 1608, Thomas Coryate, an Englishman, visited Italy. He liked the country and noted down every interesting thing    1     he had found. But there was one thing he found more interesting than the others. In his diary, Thomas wrote, “When the Italians eat meat, they use small forks instead    2    their hands. As they say, people do not always have cleaned hands.”

Schools in the UK are trying the use of classroom robots in     1     attempt to ease the growing teacher shortage.
