2 . When an infant cries, parents comfort their baby with a gentle song. Attracted by this relationship between infants and music, scientists set out to study whether a baby can also be calmed by lullabies(摇篮曲) from other cultures sung in a foreign language. The results show the universal power of music and the strength of song as a parenting tool.
This study will motivate parents to improve their “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star skills.” Researchers played foreign lullabies to American infants, as well as familiar lullabies. In their experiment, they showed an infant an animated video featuring two characters singing either a lullaby or a regular song. They had to work fast; infants lose attention after five minutes, so this was a quick experiment! The study included 16 songs in many languages and from a variety of cultures
The results may not be surprising. Infants do respond positively to all lullabies including those with foreign songs and words. This leaves researchers to conclude that there are universal elements to all lullabies. The exact elements of a lullaby may bring more hope to sleep-deprived(睡眠不足)parents. In a study, researcher Marieve Corbeil, had babies aged 7 to 10 months listen to singing in Turkish. She discovered that babies remained calm twice as long when listening to calming foreign music as opposed to speech, Lullabies are a powerful parenting tool to soothe babies all over the world and prove how effective music is.

3 . Waiting for the bus every morning and going to school has never been better for Ryder Killam, a 5-year-old boy in a wheelchair. He no longer has to wait for the school bus in the open air thanks to Westerly High School students
The goal of the boy’s father, Tim Killam, was to keep his little kid protected from the bad weather while waiting for the bus every morning. He asked for an unused bus shelter on Facebook. After not being able to find a suitable one, he decided to contact the high school which had already performed several building projects for the community.
The students from Westerly High School construction class quickly put their hands to work. The bus stop was designed by pupil Mason Heald. The construction class, led by Dan McKenna, teaches its members basic building skills and is part of the high school Career and Technical Education program. More people from the local community helped make the project happen. Dillon Helbig transported the shelter from the high school to the Killams’address with his truck. And another neighbor lent his backhoe (反铲挖机) to properly position the shelter by the bus stop.
Not only did Ryder’s daily life improve, but the students also learnt an unforgettable life lesson. They saw that with their skills and knowledge they can make a real difference in someone else’s life

5 . Students at West Side Elementary School in California, with the help of their art teacher, created a telephone hotline to offer cheerful advice during difficult times. In just days, the hotline began getting thousands of calls an hour. The hotline, available in English and Spanish, offers the happy voices of children of different ages sharing positive messages.
Most people agree that with concerns like Covid-19, extreme weather, and the climate crisis, the last years have been stressful.
“To hear the pure joy from kids is extremely comforting in these difficult times,” art teacher Jessica Martin says.
Ms. Martin called the project “Pep Talk”, which later changed to “PepToc” to draw an ad for the hotline. The project had two parts, one the hotline, and the other creating encouraging posters. Along with artist Asherah, she worked with students from kindergarten to sixth grade. Students working on the hotline thought of what they would like to say. When they were ready, Ms. Martin recorded each one. Later, she sorted out the recordings into the different parts of the telephone hotline. For example, pressing 2 results in words of encouragement and life advice. This includes messages like: “The world is a better place with you in it.” and “You are okay!” Pressing 4, you hear the sounds of children laughing — a sound certain to bring a smile to anyone’s face. Other students took part in making encouraging posters to hang up around the town. Many posters had strips of paper that people passing by could tear off and take with them.
Ms. Martin thought the project would attract interest from people near the school. But word of the hotline spread quickly on social media. The hotline has become popular with stressed adults, patients in hospitals, older people in homes, and others to beat stress by hearing the happy voices of children.
