4 . Samsung Electronics America announced that Galaxy device owners can make their own repairs to the Galaxy S20 and S21 family of products, as well as the Galaxy Tab S7+, starting August 2nd.
Samsung is cooperating with iFixit, the leading online repair community, to deliver their Self-Repair program. This program adds to Samsung’s continued expansions for convenient repair for consumers and helps them with sustainable solutions to support a more circular economy by extending the life of their devices, as well as minimizing e-waste.
Samsung consumers who wish to make their own repairs can now purchase real device parts and convenient, easy-to-use repair tools, available through iFixit, Samsung retail (零售) and service locations, at the same pricing offered to our repair providers. In addition, Galaxy device owners will have full access to online repair guides that provide both visual and written step-by-step instructions, and best of all, at no cost.
“Making replacement parts available is a key sustainability strategy. We’re excited to be working directly with Samsung and their customers to extend the lifetime of their phones,” said CEO of iFixit.
Starting today, Galaxy device owners can replace the phone screen, back glass, and charging ports. In the future, Samsung plans to expand self-repair to include more devices and repair options from our extensive product portfolio (档案).
Furthermore, the program makes it easy for consumers to return their thrown-away parts for responsible recycling, as the new display kits will come with a return label to ship thrown-away parts back to Samsung — at no cost to the consumer.
In addition to the convenience of these new self-repair options, Galaxy smartphone owners have a choice on how they can extend the life of their devices across Samsung’s expansive care options, including: Through Samsung’s perfect care network, customers have access to over 11,000 Samsung Mobile certified repair technicians in the U.S.

5 . Humans are very social creatures. In addition to verbal (语言的) communication, we also use our bodies to help us better express our thoughts and feelings. This non-verbal communication is known as body language.
Body language includes things like facial expressions, eye contact and posture (姿势). It actually developed as a form of communication before humans could speak or write. We can tell a lot about what a person is thinking or feeling just by looking at them.
In fact, body language is so common that you may not even realize that you are communicating many messages to others every day without even using words. For example, you might move your head from side to side to express the word “no” instead of actually saying the word. Or, you might give a “thumbs (拇指) up” to show that you like or agree with something.
But now that we are spending more time online, we may not have as many in-person interactions as before. Because of this, our means of non-verbal communication has changed, but is still an important way to express our thoughts.
Our “digital body language” is becoming increasingly important as we change how we communicate. Instead of using voice messages, we can video chat with our friends to show them our smiling face. Another way to express our emotions digitally is through emojis (表情符号). When we are communicating online, we are only revealing the content and leaving out tones and facial expressions. That’s when emojis can help in communication.
Whether using video chat to show our expression or sending an emoji, don’t forget the importance of digital body language and non-verbal communication.

9 . On a sunny day in May at the Saline Royale in Arc-et-Senans, France, a group of about 20 primary schoolchildren, armed with a notebook about plants, flowers and nature, are getting practical experiences with the world of gardening and learning about the natural environment.
The children then explore the gardens of the Saline Royale, where each class is led by a professional gardener. Students are able to dig, plant, use tools and develop skills while learning about the flowers and plants around them.
It’s all part of the Manuterra program, a project for schools, started by the Foundation Enterprise Hermes. The program began in September 2021, and invites students aged 6 to 18 from Arc-et-Senans to design, make and tend a garden. Combining educational and environmental issues, the themes for each class will also be adapted to the children’s ages and abilities.
The program is designed to offer the participants a brief introduction of many environmental issues such as the life of the soil, biodiversity, the making and use of organic fertilizers and the influence of climate change. The program also encourages young children to work together and maintain the precious ecological (生态的) balance as well as become familiar with their everyday natural surroundings.
The program hopes that as the students learn from the gardens of the Saline Royale, they will be able to take away knowledge to cultivate their own space where they can grow various plants and flowers and preserve biodiversity for future generations.
“There is a drive to pass on knowledge to preserve the planet,” said Laurent Pejoux, director of this program. “Climate change makes us take responsibility, and Manuterra is a response to this in order for the younger generations to protect the environment.”

10 . After eight years of planning and billions of dollars in spending, the Middle East’s first world’s fair, Expo 2020, opened on October 2 in Dubai, with hopes that the months-long extravaganza (盛会) will draw both visitors and global attention to the city.
The COVID-19 pandemic pushed Expo 2020 back a year and may affect how many people are able to come to UAE, the United Arab Emirates. But the six-month-long exhibition still offers Dubai an important opportunity to show its unique East-meets-West appeal as a place where everyone is welcome to do business.
More than 190 nations are using their pavilions (展厅) at the huge Expo site to highlight their greatest tourist attractions and discoveries. The US pavilion, for example, has a copy of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, and China’s pavilion focuses on the country’s space future inventions. The UAE’s falcon-shaped pavilion, by far the site’s largest, takes visitors on a two-hour-long experience that explores the country’s 50-year history.
Other attractions include an African food hall, a huge mirror-like water fountain, a recently excavated (挖掘) royal Egyptian mummy, concerts and performances from around the world, and the option to dine on a $500 three-course meal with glow-in-the-dark cuisine.
Since the Great Exhibition in London in 1851, world’s fairs have long served as an opportunity for nations to meet, exchange ideas, present inventions, promote culture and build business ties. They have also seen the debut of some of humanity’s most important innovations. The first world’s fair held in the US in 1876 saw Alexander Graham Bell’s telephone, the typewriter and a mechanical calculator make their first public appearances. Structures built for world’s fairs remain impressive landmarks to this day, including the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the Space Needle in Seattle, Washington.
