5 . The Chaucer Heritage Trust was founded in 1992 and aims to further interest, understanding and appreciation of the works of Geoffrey Chaucer, his life and times and influence. This year the Trust is holding The Canterbury Tales Writing Competition around the country. Students are invited to submit pieces of original writing inspired by Geoffrey Chaucer's most famous work: The Canterbury Tales.

The competition is open to all schools and college communities including pupils who are home educated and any other young people’s community organizations.

Write a poem about a journey.

Write a short story which explores an important issue through animal characters.

Write an entry for an imaginary pilgrim(朝圣), based upon a modern-day occupation. For example, “The Nurse”, “The Banker” or “The Politician”.

Word Count

The maximum word count is 500 words.

Deadlines

All entries must be submitted by 31 January 2019.

Other rules

All entries must be the original work of the student(however, rewritings of existing stories are acceptable if original in presentation and content).

Great Brazilian Music Tour

On Saturday, June 27th, a fantastic opportunity is ready for you to listen to some great Brazilian music by the musical group Minas. It is from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm, and doors open at 2:00 pm. We encourage children and their families to come to learn all about the rhythm, excitement and sound of Brazilian music. The 2-hour performance is sure to be fun for the whole family. The admission charge is $5 for each person, and all the money will go to the local food bank. You can also give away old clothes and money at the entrance.

7 . National Zoo Stays Open Later for Zoo Lights Exhibit

Winter is the perfect time to see Washington in a different light. The crowds have thinned, and those humid 95-degree days are long gone. And the National Zoo is a different experience because of 500,000 bulbs that illuminate（照亮）the annual Zoo Lights celebration.

Eco-friendly twinkly lights will decorate zoo walkways, trees and buildings. Sculptures featuring popular zoo residents, including elephants and giant pandas, light up in time to music.

If walking and watching isn’t enough excitement, head to Lion & Tiger Hill, home to a 150-foot-long snowless tubing run. Rides on the trackless train and the carousel（欢闹）also will be available.

Don’t forget to visit a few of the zoo’s real animals. The Kids’ Farm, Reptile Discovery Center, Small Mammal House, Think Tank (orangutans) and Great Cats exhibit will be open in the evening. There’s no guarantee, however, that the animals will be as lively as the humans in attendance.

It sounds like an amusement park.Or a portion of a zoo reserved for marsupials(有袋动物). But Kangaroo Island(KI), 30 minutes by air from Adelaide in South Australia, is just the opposite. Footers can expect to walk roughly four to seven hours a day, passing colorful flower, splendid sugar gum tees and massive native plant life.
