This course explores the concepts and algorithms (算法) at the foundation of modern artificial intelligence, diving into the ideas that give rise to technologies like game-playing engines, handwriting recognition, and machine translation. Through hands-on projects, students gain exposure to the theory behind graph search algorithms, classification, and other topics in artificial intelligence and machine learning as they incorporate them into their own Python programs. By course’s end, students emerge with experience in libraries for machine learning as well as knowledge of artificial intelligence principles that enable them to design intelligent systems of their own.

Requirement

CS50x or at least one year of experience with Python.

Working alongside trained forest protectors, conservation staff and other volunteers from Monday to Friday (8: 30 a. m. —4: 30 p. m.), you’re expected to help with fence guards to keep animals safe from poachers (偷猎者), feed animals, and even help catch animals for medical treatment. During term-time, you may also work with the local community, delivering meals with nutrition to local children.

After work, you’ll have plenty of time to relax on the reserve. Be bathed in the sun by the reserve’s pool, play a few rounds of tennis or relax in the common room with your new friends. A BCBF highlight, the Illustrators Exhibition is a unique international showcase for state-of-the-art illustrations for children and young adults.

WHO CAN ENTER

Illustrators, both professionals and beginners, can enter unpublished artwork, or artwork published in the previous 2 years.

Art schools can enter the projects by students who have attended their Institute.

Publishers can enter illustrators they work with.

FEATURES OF THE ILLUSTRATIONS

Illustrators must enter their artworks exclusively online by December 31, 2023.

The 5 artworks must be based on the same theme, and must be numbered, as preferred, from 1 to 5 on the digital format file.

The 5 illustrations—5, no more, no less—may be unpublished artwork or artwork published after 1 January 2022. The work can be in black and white or colour and be produced using any technique.

The digital format must be: jpg or png, maximum size 5 MB, resolution 150 DPI.

SELECTION PROCESS

All works shall be examined by the international Jury comprising five members (from publishing houses, art schools, or illustrators) appointed by BolognaFiere. The Jury's decision shall be final.

WINNERS

Being selected will give illustrators great visibility with the publication of their works in the Illustrators Annual and the 2-year world tour of the exhibition.

Winners under 35 will automatically be shortlisted (入围) for the International Award for Illustration Bologna Children's Book Fair, which consists of a prize of 15,000 Euro and the assignment to illustrate a children's book to be published by Grupo SM, Spain.

Unpublished winners under 30 will also compete for the ARS IN FABULA scholarship, which covers the entire Masters course fee.

8 . La Royale Maison de Savoie

Alexandre Dumas, author of several popular novels, was pressed to write La Royale Maison de Savoie for money in 1854. It was so rushed that neither the National Library of France nor the Alexandre Dumas Museum had any knowledge of it. In 1998, two historians discovered it in an Italian antique bookstore. Since then, it has been published again in France.

Profile of a Young Fiancée

The art piece has created quite a storm in the art world since its discovery. At first, it was thought to be a piece of a late 19th century German artist. In 1998, it was sold to a private collector. Over the next 10 years, some experts, including Nicholas Turner, closely examined the work and determined it was probably drawn by Leonardo da Vinci around 1485.

War Thoughts at Home

This 35-line poem by Robert Frost remained unknown to all but his friend Frederic Melcher until 2006-88 years after it was written. Melcher donated the poet’s letters and books to the University of Virginia. And Robert Stilling, a graduate student, came across the poem inside a copy of Frost’s 1914 book North of Boston.

Trio in E Flat Major

Ludwig van Beethoven composed this untitled work in 1792, then rearranged it about eight years later. Only partly completed, the project was abandoned and subsequently lost for over 100 years. German musicologist Willy Hess published the handwritten manuscript (手稿) in a scholarly review in 1920, gaining little attention. The first known performance of the 12-minute piece was on March 1, 2009.

The deadline date for entries is 12 midnight (UK time) on 30 July 2023.

Length

8,000 words maximum, 5,000 minimum taken from the opening chapter.

£24 per novel. There is no limit to the number of novel submissions.

Format

Entries must be typed in Arial 12 pt black font, double-spaced with numbered pages and the novel’s title on every page. Save as a Microsoft Word document(. doc or. docx) or PDF file with the novel title as the file name. Please do not include your name in the file name as this will lead to disqualification. The maximum allowed file size is 2MB. Include the word count for the submission on the top right first page.

Results & Awards

A prize-giving event will be held at Bridport Arts Centre, Dorset for the winner, runner-up and three Highly Commended winners on 22 October 2023. Full results and the Judges’ Report will be published on the website that afternoon.
