●The resources have easy-to-follow lesson plans that save you time in preparing for your classes.

This new interactive (互动的) learning website will include:

●a multimedia library with supporting materials you need for each lesson

●different learning activities for those aged 5-18

●a full curriculum mapping for the new requirements in England

How will it benefit learners?

Through all kinds of practical activities, learners will:

●have skills, confidence and willingness to act when someone needs first aid

●learn first aid for common injuries and what to do in a first-aid emergency

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章介绍了秘密营销策略。广告公司通过雇佣一些时尚人物在年轻人经常出入的公共场合进行一些看似不经意的表演,让人们了解某种商品,达到广告宣传的目的。

5 . You’re in a department store and you see a couple of attractive young women looking at a sweater. You listen to their conversation:

“I can’t believe it — Lorenzo Bertolla! It is almost impossible to find. Isn’t it beautiful? And it’s a lot cheaper than the one Sara bought in Rome.”

They leave and you go over to see this incredible sweater. It’s nice and the price is right. You’ve never heard of Lorenzo Bertolla, but those girls looked really stylish. They must know. So, you buy it. You never realize that those young women are employees of an advertising agency. They are actually paid to go from store to store, talking loudly about Lorenzo Bertolla clothes.

Every day we notice what people are wearing, driving and eating. If the person looks cool, the product seems cool, too. This is the secret of undercover marketing.

Companies from Ford to Nike are starting to use it.

Undercover marketing is important because it reaches people that don’t pay attention to traditional advertising. This is particularly true of the MTV generation — consumers between the age of 18 and 34. It is a golden group. They have a lot of money to spend, but they don’t trust ads.

So advertising agencies hire young actors to “perform” in bars and other places where young adults go. Some people might call this practice misleading, but marketing executive Jonathan Ressler calls it creative. “Look at traditional advertising. Its effectiveness is decreasing.” It is true, because everyone knows and ad is trying to persuade you to buy something. However, you don’t know when a conversation you overhear is just a performance.

1. The two attractive young women were talking so that they could ______.
A.be heard by people aroundB.get the answer at a lower price
C.be admired by other shoppersD.decide on buying the sweater
2. It can be learned from the passage that Lorenzo Bertolla is ______.
A.a very popular male singerB.an advertising agency
C.a brand name of clothesD.a clothing company in Rome
3. Which of the following can be inferred from the passage?
A.Traditional advertising will soon disappear in the market.
B.The MTV generation tends to be more easily influenced by ads.
C.Undercover marketing will surely be banned soon by the government.
D.Traditional advertising is becoming less effective because it’s too direct.
4. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A.Two Attractive ShoppersB.Undercover Marketing
C.Ways of AdvertisingD.Lorenzo Bertolla Sweaters

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了一个ESL新移民项目,包括该项目的作用和课程内容等。

6 . Finding yourself in an unfamiliar country is difficult enough, and not being able to read or speak the native language can make the change greatly more difficult. Programs that teach English as a Second Language (ESL) help non-English speaking students acclimate to life in the United States more smoothly.

The ESL Newcomers program at Palmer Elementary in Newport News, Virginia, serves children coming from areas of South America, Afghanistan, Vietnam and other parts of Asia. When members of the Kiwanis Club of Peninsula at Oyster Point-which has a long-standing relationship with the school-learned about the program in 2020, they were eager to help.

To date, the club has donated (捐赠) $1,600 to Palmer Elementary’s ESL Newcomers program. The money has helped the school gain classroom resources (资源), plan virtual (虚拟的) field trips and bring guest speakers into the classroom. Money has also been used to help with the buying of winter clothing, which some children didn’t have when they arrived in the United States.

“In the ESL Newcomers program, the children are taught English, math, history and even some cultural information about their new home,” explains Joseph Slabinski, club president. “The program will also help their families, as students can enter into the programs while they are at home.”

The club also helps the children with gardening. This gives students another chance to learn and practice English, make friends and feel more connected to their new home.

Over the years, the Kiwanians also have taken part in reading programs, bought dictionaries for young students and helped LeapFrog learning stations. The ESL Newcomers program is another chance for members to connect with students and improve education in a meaningful way.

“We have the ability to help these students with their learning and show them that America has people that are concerned and willing to help others in need,” says Slabinski, “We will always be there to help the children of Palmer Elementary.”

1. What does the underlined phrase “acclimate to” in paragraph 1 mean?
A.Apply for.B.Turn down.
C.Look forward to.D.Get used to.
2. What has the Kiwanis Club’s donation been used for so far?

10 . These days, short videos have got millions of views online. Many people create short videos on popular video apps like Douyin and Kuaishou. You can even add music and special effects to your videos. The videos are 15 seconds to a few minutes long. They show people doing activities like cooking, exercising and singing.

Teenagers especially enjoy these videos. More than 50 percent of students in Grade 10 and Grade 11 said they enjoyed watching these short videos. About 47 percent have posted their own videos, according to a recent report.

The videos let teenagers see funny and exciting things they wouldn’t usually see. Many teenagers like to share the funny things they do with others as well. For example, a 12-year-old user named Xiao Qianyu has posted videos showing her learning jazz dance. This has won her many fans.

However, the videos can also cause trouble. Some students spend too much time watching them and not enough time studying. Some videos have vulgar content that is not good for teenagers.

To deal with this problem, Douyin added a new function (功能) in April, 2018. It locks the app if someone uses the app for over two hours a day. In the same month, the government asked companies to control these apps well and get rid of bad videos.

1. What can people add to their short videos with these apps?
A.Music and special effects.B.Douyin and Kuaishou.
C.Jazz dance.D.Locking the app.
2. What will happen if kids spend too much time watching short videos?
