2 . To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Reader’s Digest, we’re re-starting our much-loved 100-Word-Story Competition.

Please make sure that entries(参赛作品)are original, unpublished, and exactly 100 words—not a single word shorter or longer! Don’t forget to include your full name, address, email and phone number when filling in the form. We may use entries in all print and electronic media.

There are three categories:

In the adult category, the winner will receive $1, 000 and a Serious Readers High Definition Floor or Table Light(value up to $400)and the ones who finish second will receive $280.

In the 12-18s category, the winner will receive a $200 book voucher(券)or an 8GB Kindle Paperwhite, and the runner-up will receive a f 100 book voucher.

3 . The Best National Parks to Visit in Winter

While most parks tend to draw families in the summer and fall, there are also ideal spots for adventurous winter trips.

The country’s oldest and best-known national park takes on an almost otherworldly atmosphere in winter: the air filled with rolling steam, the strong colors of hot springs, the surrounding white landscapes, let alone the impressive wildlife during this time, like bison, wolves, and playful red foxes. Just book a guided hiking tour to get a ranger’s perspective on the park and local people.

With its giant red rocks and unique trees, you’ll feel like stepping onto a foreign planet as you spend hours hiking the Panorama Loop or Maze Loop. The park is recognized as an International Dark Sky Park, featuring virtually zero light pollution and the country’s best views of a starry sky.

A significantly lower number of visitors in winter means you can take in unblocked views of the South Rim, and get to see the rare beauty of the Grand Canyon dusted with snow. For those adventurous and daring, it is recommended to hike the Bright Angel Trail and take the chance to see the canyon’s wintertime wildlife, including mule deer, elk, and bald eagles.

Surprise! Not all wintertime national park trips need to involve snow. Virgin Islands National Park is most famous for its white-sand beaches. You can also hike inland to visit old sugar plantations, or venture out to the water to swim along with sea turtles and manta rays. You will definitely enjoy a different winter here.

■Munchy Mart

Description: A grocery and convenience store – your one-stop shop for snacks on campus. Offering a wide range of items, from hot noodles to soft drinks and everything in-between.

Munchy Mart is also the only provider on campus for AT HOP card purchases and top-ups (充值). You can also buy things from our website.

7 . ZOO CREW—TEEN VOLUNTEER PROGRAM Ages 13-17

Passionate about animals and wondering what a zookeeper's day is like? Denver Zoo's Teen Volunteer Program, Zoo Crew, might be the place for you! We do not offer one-time volunteer service opportunities for school or court appointed teens.

APPLICATIONS

The application will open on January 1 and close on March 1. Applicants must be at least 13 years old by the first day of training and no older than 17.

REQUIREMENTS

Teen volunteers: 75 hours of service per summer (June through August) with several shifts each month.

First-year teen volunteers: three weeks (M-F, mornings or afternoons) of volunteering during the summer to support Summer Safari, Denver Zoo's summer camp.

All current teen volunteers can choose volunteer year-round, after participating for at least one summer season. These teens must commit to at least one shift per month, perform position duties as assigned including working outside, communicate with guests and staff independently and alongside other teen and adult volunteers.

Junior Crew (Year 1 in Zoo Crew):

Summer Safari: assist camp instructors with games, zoo tours, and educational activities.

Animal Department: assist veteran teen volunteers with daily animal husbandry responsibilities such as cleaning, diet preparation and animal enrichment. Teens 16 or older may also help at the Nutrition Center, the Zoo's animal kitchen.

TUITION

$150 nonrefundable (不退还的) tuition fee (due no later than May I of each year). Download Denver Zoo's Tuition Scholarship form. (Scholarship requests are due no later than April 15 each year.)

Tuition helps cover costs of Zoo Crew T-shirt uniforms, name tag, daily supervision, program supplies, training and continuing education programs, annual award ceremony, social events and campouts.
