The Course Experience

4 . Interesting Events in America
The Noquemanon Ski Marathon
The Noquemanon Ski Marathon runs from 24th to 26th in January in the Ishpeming and Marquette areas of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula in January. The 25th is the big day with cross-country ski events ranging from 12 km to 50 km in a variety of classes. There is also a 15-mile snowshoe event. On January 24th there are junior races, and on January 26th there are snow bike and snowshoe competitions.

5 . Hearst Castle
Hearst Castle is a park on the central California coast and a National Historic Landmark. It was designed by Julia Morgan for William Randolph Hearst from 1919 until 1947. In 1957, the Hearst Corporation donated the fortune to the state of California. Since that time, it has been a state historic park where its large collection of art and antiques are open for public tours. Despite its location far from any urban center, the site attracts roughly one million visitors per year.
Guided Tours
·Tour 1 is recommended for first-time visitors. It now includes the movie, Hearst Castle: Building the Dream.
·Tour 2 gives visitors a closer look at the main house’s upper floors, Mr Hearst’s private suite, the libraries, and the kitchen.
·Tour 3 looks at the Castle’s North Wing, guest rooms and the guest house Casa del Monte.
·Tour 4 includes the impressive gardens and grounds, the largest guest house, the wine basement, and the Hidden Terrace.
·The evening tour is a special tour that allows visitors to experience the castle at night as one of the Hearst’s own visitors might have.

6 . This year, we are delighted to launch the first time American Short Fiction (ASF). From Thursday, May 26, to Monday, May 30, we will welcome twenty-four writers to Austin to study with short-story masters Karen Russell and Dantiel W. Moniz over the course of five inspiring, enlightening days.
Participants will attend daily fiction workshops, one-on-one meetings with distinguished faculty, and craft lectures by faculty, special guests, and ASF editors. We’ll provide space to create new work and make lasting connections in the atmosphere of the sights, sounds, and swimming holes of Austin.
How to Apply
Applications are due February 15 by 11:59 pm. To apply, please send us a double-spaced writing sample of up to 25 pages through our submittable application site (https://american-shortfiction.org/workshop/). There is a non-refundable $20 application fee. We will inform applicants of their acceptance by email on or before March 15.
Tuition for the workshop is $ 1,800, which does not include room and board. We are working with a local hotel within walking distance of our office for a discounted block of rooms, and you are also welcome to seek out accommodations on your own.
Scholarships and Financial Aid
We are proud to offer financial assistance to attend the workshop in the form of two scholarships and two fellowships. Our merit-based (基于优秀的) scholarships will come with a 50% reduction in tuition. Essays (60%)Your four major essays will combine to form the main part of the grade for this course: Essay 1 = 10%; Essay 2 = 15%; Essay 3 = 15%; Essay 4 = 20%.
Group Assignments (30%)Students will work in groups to complete four assignments (作业) during the course. All the assignments will be submitted by the assigned date through Blackboard, our online learning and course management system.
Daily Work/In-Class Writings and Tests/Group Work/Homework (10%)Class activities will vary from day to day, but students must be ready to complete short in-class writings or tests drawn directly from assigned readings or notes from the previous class' lecture/discussion, so it is important to take careful notes during class. Winter Olympic Cities
The National Speed Skating Oval, also known as the “ice ribbon”, is a new venue built for ice competitions in Beijing. It will hold speed skating events and award 14 gold medals. Every move and every sound from the skates on ice will be seen and heard by all at the oval. The Big Air Shougang, sitting in the Shougang Industrial Park, will serve the snowboard and freestyle skiing events.
Along the Great Wall
The route runs through seven cities in Hebei and Inner Mongolia and offers skiing, hiking, photography and winter fishing. The Yudaokou Grassland and Forest Scenic Area and the Chengde Mountain Resort are an ideal complement to local snow sport experiences. Daogunan Mountain Ski Field offers ski slopes catering to skiers of all levels. Its winter recreation park offers snowmobile and dog sleigh experiences for family travelers.
Changbai Mountains
