2 . BBC Young Reporter Competition

If you are 11-18 years old, tell us about a story you think the BBC should be reporting.

What is the BBC Young Reporter Competition?

It is a yearly opportunity for 11- to 18-year-olds across the UK to submit (提交) an original story idea to the BBC. BBC Young Reporter Competition winners will have the chance to tell their story on TV, radio, online or on social media with the help of BBC journalists, producers and program makers. We are not looking for finished reports but entries should just be an outline of a story idea. This can be submitted as a written description or videos.

Entries will be judged in two age categories: 11-15 and 16-18. There is one entry category: Me and My World. Entries should be an original and true story about your life, or the world you live in. It could be about your own identity or experience that impacts you or your community. You need to show how your report on this story can reflect the wider situation. Entries will only be considered when submitted via the online mechanism (机制). No other method of entry is permitted (this includes email or post).

Judging process

Stories will be judged on editorial merit (优点) — that means the strength of the story, originality, and the personal story or background related to it. Judges will be looking for 40 winning stories from across the UK. Judges include editors from across the BBC as well as presenters and reporters. Stories will not be broadcast until all the judging is completed and the winners are announced in June.

The author and illustrator Elly MacKay’s illustrations tell this quiet story about a little boy who plants a seed and patiently cultivates and cares for it over the seasons until it reaches maturity. This story also serves as a metaphor (隐喻) for working towards a dream or goal with care and patience and reaching it over time, which makes If You Hold a Seed a good graduation gift.

Only One You

In this picture book written and illustrated by Linda Kranz, a mother and a father decide it is time to share their wisdom with their son, Adri. While Adri’s parents’ words are indeed wise, it is the mixed media artwork illustrating their meanings that makes this book so special. For example, “If something gets in your way, move around it” is illustrated with a line of rock fish that detour around a fishing line with a worm on it.

5 . Sydney Cinemas in Historic Buildings

The Orpheum

Running since 1935, the Orpheum is of beautiful art design. When it was built, the Orpheum was used as a theatre with a stage and dressing rooms. It could seat 1,735 people. Later, the theatre was turned into a shopping mall. However, in 1986 the theatre was bought by Mike Walsh OBE and turned into a theatre again. Now this six-screen cinema shows old and new films to people. And you can still enjoy live (现场的) music on weekends.

This family-owned cinema was built in 1937. What on Earth have you photographed? The annual BigPicture: Natural World Photography Competition encourages little photographers from around the world to contribute their work to this photo competition that will both celebrate and display the rich diversity of life on Earth and inspire action to protect the environment through the power of imagery. It has been held since 1991 and has received more than 3 million entries from children in over 100 countries. The winning images are exhibited at one of the most famous science institutions in the world in San Francisco, California, the USA.
