2 . Zheng Qinwen announced herself as a major new force in women’s tennis with an import French Open debut (首秀) last month. Now the Chinese teenager hopes the fighting spirit she showed at the Grand Slam (大满贯) tournament can encourage kids starting out in the sport to chase their dreams on the court with the same determination.
“If tennis is your dream, I think you always have to fight for your dream. Because we only have one life, you shouldn’t have any regrets,” Zheng said last week in an interview.
The 19-year-old showed she possesses the talent to be a contender at the very top level of tennis with a breakout campaign at French Open.
Accounting for two-time Grand Slam winner Simona Halep along the way, Zhengs journey was ended in the fourth round by a three-set defeat to eventual champion Iga Swiatek. Zheng, though gave the Polish world No. 1 a big scare, battling back from 3-0 down in the first set to force, and win, a tiebreak (平分决胜局)。
“That was the first time I had played the world No.1, so I really wanted to grab this chance so I could judge her level and test myself,” said Zheng. “I didn’t want to give her the match so easy like that. It was pretty difficult for me to hold on in that match because of what my body was going through, but I wanted to show her I'm not easily beaten.
Looking back at Zheng Qinwen’s performances in this year’s French Open, there’s no doubt that she’s a true fighter. Zheng says she avoids being discouraged by higher-ranked opponents by simply focusing on the next point, one shot at a time.Supported by her team, she hopes she can one day win a Grand Slam title.
Zheng’s impressive French Open run has inevitably led to comparisons with China’s solitary Grand Slam singles championLi Na, who won the 2011 French Open and 2014 Australian Open titles.
“When I was a kid, Li Na showed that Asian people also can do something really good in tennis. She was the first one. I will just focus on my own game and then let’s see if I can really compete at the highest level,” said Zheng.

3 . Most people who ran the marathon last month spent days before resting up and days after recovering. But not Jacky Hunt-Broersma. In total, she ran 104 marathons in 104 days. If it’s confirmed by Guinness World Records, that would be a new world record. And she did it all with one leg and a prosthesis (假肢).
“Someone able-bodied had done it previously. I wanted to see if I could do it on a prosthetic leg and see what would happen,” she said. “I thought it would be a great way to inspire others to push their limits because I truly believe that we’re stronger than what we think. And I’ve been so pleasantly surprised that my body is held up, everything is held up and I’ve made it to 104.”
She actually did not pick up the sport until after she lost the lower part of her left leg in 2001 to a type of cancer called Ewing sarcoma. Runners using a prosthetic leg can’t use a regular one. They need a running blade (刀锋式跑步义肢). Hunt-Broersma has two, but she was only able to run with one because of the swelling she experienced in her left leg that made it impossible to connect to the other blade. But even with the pain that occurred, she has been able to put up with it and continued.
All together, Hunt-Broersma ran over 4, 385 kilometers. During that time she has had a lot of time to think and has learned a few things about herself. “It has taught me how strong one can be and how important absolute determination is. If you’re mentally strong, you can do anything,” she said. “And our bodies are just amazing ... This whole journey was impressive and super hard, but it’s told me how strong I can be as a person and how far I can push myself.”

4 . At almost every Olympic Games, one athlete is named as the greatest star, and good- natured debates follow for years to come. Usually, there's no certainty about who is really the most memorable one.
But in 1948, everyone who attended the London Olympic Games agreed on who was the greatest legend: Fanny Blankers-Koen, a 30-year-old Dutch housewife.
Before the Games, many people suggested she was too old to succeed, while others said she should stay at home with her children. When she arrived at the track, she pointed at one of them and said simply, "I'll show you."
And she did it.
Fanny Blankers-Koen won the 100m race with ease. With an Olympic gold medal to her name, she wanted to give up and return home because she missed her children so much. But her husband, Jan Blankers, who was also her coach, asked her to stay. The hurdles (跨栏) gold came next, followed by a championship in the 200m, which she won by 0.7 seconds — a huge margin (差额) that has not been matched since.
Blankers-Koen celebrated those victories with a big shopping tour, and only arrived back at the stadium ten minutes before the start of the 4×100m match. Without any warming up, she ran the last leg. When she started to run, the Dutch were in the third. But Blankers-Koen won the race by a foot.
If she hadn't been limited (限制) by the IOC rules to four events, she could have won two more golds. IOC rules forced her to drop two of her strongest events, the long jump and high jump, both of which she held the world record.
On her return to Netherland, Queen Juliana gave her a bicycle, saying she wouldn't have to run so much.
But she kept running until she finished her sport life as an athlete in 1955 with a 58th record and went to three more Olympics as a coach.
In 1999 when she was honored the greatest female athlete of the 20th century, Blankers-Koen asked, "Is it really me?" When she got a positive answer, she jumped up and did a little dance.

8 . During school life, Muhammad Tariq Khan developed an interest in playing badminton. Unfortunately, the school did not have a coach, so he had to self-learn the sport. His dedication helped him become an under 12 Pakistan Champion at the age of 10.
Coming from a working-class family, Khan had to work in a factory to earn money for his family. But driven by his passion, Khan found out ways to watch other players play matches on the badminton court and he learned various techniques used by experienced players. Meanwhile, Khan practiced badminton by hitting the shuttlecock (羽毛球) against the walls of his home. Seeing his passion for the sport, his family bought him a net, a few wooden rackets, and a pack of shuttles to practice at home. Later, Khan often practiced in an open court. To maintain strength, he went on daily morning sprints (短跑) by the riverside to be fit.
His intense practice sessions had made him so skilled that he courageously attacked and played against the top-ranked players. Soon he became a known player. Although he had a supportive family, he could not take up badminton as a full-time career. In order to help his father with finances and shoulder responsibility for his brothers and sisters, he had to switch his focus to build a long-lasting and stable career to sustain his family. After completing his degree in Bachelor of Commerce from Sindh University in 1964, he joined the Pakistan International Airlines in 1967. As an adult, he acknowledged the importance of his duties and performed them with great enthusiasm. Despite his daily office routine, Khan did not leave his passion for sports and played regularly.
The journey of Khan’s achieving his goals is indeed challenging. His family had spent their initial days in a refugee (难民) camp. Khan ever walked long distances from college to his house to avoid using public transport to save cash to buy shuttlecocks.
Today he has been recognized by many reputable Pakistani platforms for his contribution to badminton. His personality is inspirational for many young individuals, who can learn from him the art of balancing life pressures and sticking to a passion!

10 . He left Cleveland for Miami and finally became a champion. He went back to his beloved Cleveland, before he left for the Los Angeles Lakers. He played in eight straight finals. No NBA player won more games or more MVP awards over the last 10 years than he did. He went to Hollywood and made movies.
“That’s all?” LeBron James asked, in joking disbelief.
No, that’s not all. Those were just some highlights of the last 10 years and there was no sign of slowing down.
To honor his achievements, James is added to The Associated Press (AP) List of male athlete of the decade, which includes Tiger Woods, Wayne Gretzky and Arnold Palmer. He easily defeated Tom Brady of the New England Patriots in the AP vote.
James has a typical schedule that even surprises those closest to him. He wakes up at 3 am and arrives at the Warner Bros lot by 3:45—where a weight room and a court, built just for him, were waiting. He’d be lifting by 4:00, getting shots up by 5:30 and be ready to join his team by 7:00.
“That’s who he is,” said Mike Mancias, one of James’ best friends. “He does whatever it takes to achieve his goal—especially his game and his craft.”
The 2010s for James started with “The Decision”, the widely criticized televised announcement of his choice to leave Cleveland for Miami Heat. He was with the Heat for four years before he joined the NBA and finally won the title in 2012.
Cleveland was very unhappy when he left. But it forgave him and welcomed him back in 2014. In 2018, James went to Hollywood and set up a company to make movies.
“There are a lot of big moments for this decade,” James said. “But the best one? Definitely marrying Savannah.”
James got married with Savannah Brinson, his high school sweetheart, in 2012. They already had two sons, and added a daughter in 2014.
