文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了Jacky Hunt-Broersma虽然由于癌症而左腿截肢,但是借助假肢连续104天跑104场马拉松的励志故事。

1 . Most people who ran the marathon last month spent days before resting up and days after recovering. But not Jacky Hunt-Broersma. In total, she ran 104 marathons in 104 days. If it’s confirmed by Guinness World Records, that would be a new world record. And she did it all with one leg and a prosthesis (假肢).

“Someone able-bodied had done it previously. I wanted to see if I could do it on a prosthetic leg and see what would happen,” she said. “I thought it would be a great way to inspire others to push their limits because I truly believe that we’re stronger than what we think. And I’ve been so pleasantly surprised that my body is held up, everything is held up and I’ve made it to 104.”

She actually did not pick up the sport until after she lost the lower part of her left leg in 2001 to a type of cancer called Ewing sarcoma. Runners using a prosthetic leg can’t use a regular one. They need a running blade (刀锋式跑步义肢). Hunt-Broersma has two, but she was only able to run with one because of the swelling she experienced in her left leg that made it impossible to connect to the other blade. But even with the pain that occurred, she has been able to put up with it and continued.

All together, Hunt-Broersma ran over 4, 385 kilometers. During that time she has had a lot of time to think and has learned a few things about herself. “It has taught me how strong one can be and how important absolute determination is. If you’re mentally strong, you can do anything,” she said. “And our bodies are just amazing ... This whole journey was impressive and super hard, but it’s told me how strong I can be as a person and how far I can push myself.”

1. Why did Hunt-Broersma decide to run marathons?
A.She wanted to set a new record.
B.She intended to challenge herself.

B.She found it hard to keep her balance.

5 . Coco Gauff won the U.S. Open women’s title in 2023. Gauff became only the third American teenager to win the national women’s title four years after she rose to fame in the sport by beating Venus Williams, one of her childhood idols, at the Wimbledon Championships when Gaff was just 15 years old.

When Gauff was barely school age she held a tennis racket (球拍) and told her parents that she wanted to be the best player in the world. By the time Gauff was seven, she was training with a tennis professional two hours a day, several days a week. Her father suggested that the family move from Atlanta to Delray Beach, Florida, home to some of the best tennis training camps in the world. At 13, Gauff was the youngest U.S. Open junior girls finalist in history; at 14, she became one of the youngest winners of the French Open junior girls tournament.

When the competitors met at the net for the traditional handshake, Gauff tried to make the moment special. “I was just telling her thank you for everything she’s done for the sport,” Gauff said at the time.

Despite her age, Gauff demonstrated skills that both set her apart and made her worthy of being mentioned with other tennis genius, including Tracy Austin, Jennifer Capriati, and Andrea Jaeger. Yet her professional career has not been without its setbacks. Since beating Williams in the first round at Wimbledon, she has found herself knocked out in the first round at the 2022 Australian Open and at Wimbledon in 2023. Still, Gauff has shown consistent improvement in her game on the world stage.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了Clarence DeMar通过努力改变了人们对运动好处的看法,他成为他那个时代最引人注目的长跑运动员之一。

7 . Clarence DeMar would train for races by running to and from his job in Boston, up to 14 miles a day. His hard work paid off. He won the 1911 Boston Marathon and competed in the next year’s Olympics.

But at the time, many people and medical experts thought prolonged (持续很久的) exercise was dangerous. A doctor, detecting a heart murmur (杂音), warned DeMar to quit the sport.

DeMar proved them all wrong—both during his lifetime and after—in ways that helped change people’s minds about the benefits of exercise.

He became one of the most noticeable distance runners of his day, competing in two more Olympics and winning the Boston Marathon a record seven times between 1911 and 1930. He kept winning races well into his 40s. The press called him “Mr. DeMarathon”.

After he died of cancer at age 70, two Boston-area experts took a look at his heart. What they found were different from all those terrifying warnings. Not only was DeMar’s heart in good shape, but his arteries(动脉) were also two to three times the size of a typical person’s — reducing the risk of a fatal blockage. As for that heart murmur the doctor warned DeMar about? Experts say, “We now know that highly trained athletes often have a heart murmur, and it’s normal.”

The study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 1961, made the front page of The Boston Globe. “It was one of those first studies that taught us that the human body can really handle, very healthfully, lots and lots of exercise,” said Dr. Aaron Baggish, a professor at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland and the former medical director of the Boston Marathon.

The popularity of running exploded in the decades after DeMar’s death, as further research backed that up. It’s now well-established that regular exercise makes us healthier and prolongs our lives.

The current national guidelines recommend at least two and a half to five hours of moderate exercise like walking each week, or an hour and fifteen minutes to two and a half hours of vigorous activity like running—and research suggests more is generally better.

1. Why did the doctor advise DeMar to give up prolonged exercise?
A.He was in poor health.B.He had a heart murmur.
C.He must focus on his job.D.He was unable to finish it.
2. What was DeMar’s attitude to the doctor’s warning?
A.Favorable.B.Worried.C.Mistrustful.D.Unclear.
3. What did the two Boston experts find about DeMar?
A.His heart was in bad shape.B.He died from too much exercise.
C.He suffered from artery blockage.D.He benefited from lots of exercise.
4. What does the last paragraph mainly talk about?
A.Advice on exercise.B.Several forms of exercise.
C.The advantages of walking.D.The purpose of the research.

文章大意:本文是一篇新闻报道。文章主要介绍了中国跳水运动员全红婵和陈芋汐在19届亚运会上的表现,并强调了她们的竞技实力和团队精神。

9 . Chinese diving queens Quan Hongchan and Chen Yuxi were, unsurprisingly, among the brightest stars on the platform at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou in 2023. Together, the two teenagers reached the top step of the podium (领奖台) with a nearly perfect performance in women’s double diving. Then, the two young athletes battled it out in the women’s single 10m platform, when Quan outperformed Chen to win the champion. With both Quan and Chen’s final scores exceeding 430 points, none of the other divers came close, including the bronze medalist (280.50).

Quan and Chen are both the closest of partners and toughest of rivals (对手). This seemingly complicated relationship, to themselves, however, is very simple. They are simply best friends that have grown up together. “Quan shines in so many ways and she is always energetic during training and competition.” Although Quan is always described as a talkative and funny girl by teammates, the 16-year-old is famous for giving extremely short answers to media questions.

Quan and Chen became household names in China after their performance at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, when Quan won the women’s 10m platform gold and Chen won the silver. “As athletes, we both have the desire to win. That is why we both work extremely hard and fight for the same goal.” said Chen. “She is the best encouragement to me and our true motivation.”

But in Quan’s eyes, Chen is the more hardworking one of the two. “She always tries her best at training and competition. I’m not as hardworking as she is,” Quan added. Already collecting Olympic gold and numerous world titles, Quan and Chen stand at the top of world diving. But their sporting dreams remain unfulfilled, with both targeting gold at the Paris Olympics next summer. “I hope my partner always has a champion’s heart to face future competitions and the challenges ahead.” said Chen Quan, in her typically brief way, added: “I wish her the same.”

文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。文章介绍了残奥会运动员于静通过艰苦锻炼,在2022年的残奥会冰球比赛上大放异彩,并鼓励和号召其他女性残疾人要跟着一起努力奋斗。

10 . As the only woman competing in para ice hockey (残奥冰球) at Beijing 2022, Yu Jing, at the age of 38, caught people’s eyes in Team China’s 6-0 round-robin win over Italy on Tuesday.

Yu played over five minutes in the game which fittingly took place on International Women’s Day, becoming only the third woman in history to ever compete in the Paralympic hockey program, following Norwegians Brit Mjaasund Oeyen and Lena Schroeder in 1994 and 2018, respectively.

Para ice hockey is a mixed-gender sport, but world championships and Paralympic Games still tend to feature all-male teams due to the sport’s physically demanding nature.

Yu has had a passion for sports since she was a kid-even with polio (小儿麻痹症) causing a disability in her left leg when she was little.

In 2019, Yu took up para ice hockey. Similar to wheelchair basketball, para ice hockey involves players with various lower body disabilities sitting on sledges while pushing themselves along the ice with hockey sticks in both hands.

“It was hard at the beginning. It’s quite difficult to maintain balance while sitting on thin blades (冰刃) and controlling the puck,” Yu said.

She developed a serious disease on her right wrist because she pushed herself too hard. Icing her wrist has become a daily routine, not to mention frequent treatment for wounds on her shoulders and back.

However, nothing deters the sports lover. “In this sport, crashes are unavoidable. I am ready for whatever challenges come my way on the ice,” she said.

Yu expects to see more of her gender follow in her footsteps. “Women with disabilities all over the world, I hope they know it’s not impossible, and I hope they see this as encouragement,” she said.

1. Why did Yu Jing catch people’s eyes in para ice hockey at the Paralympic Games?
A.Yu got the most scores in the para ice hockey.
B.Yu won the most medals at the Paralympic Games.
C.Yu was the only woman competing in the para ice hockey.
