Organized by Beijing Normal University, an important forum (论坛) on the spirit of the Chinese women’s volleyball team     1     (hold) on Saturday in Beijing. Around 500 people from     2     (differ) fields attended the forum.

Giving nice speeches,     3     (professor) shared their views on the spirit of women’s volleyball and on the building of sports power. Lang Ping, chief coach of women’s volleyball team, also shared     4     (she) opinions, which made a deep impression on all the audience.

Cheng Jianping, the Party chief of Beijing Normal University, said in his speech that women’s volleyball has influenced people     5    (deep), and encourage them     6    (work) hard for their aspirations (抱负). The spirit of women’s volleyball has not only showed patriotism (爱国主义)     7     also brought faith (信念) and courage to people     8     are facing new challenges. So far, China     9    (enter) a new period, and it should continue to carry forward this spirit. Meanwhile, this spirit should be closely connected     10     patriotism education, Cheng said.

Before the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, visually-impaired (视力受损的)Chinese runner Liu Cuiqing put a lot of stress on     1    (she) to do well. Finally, she made it. She won two gold medals with the help of her sighted guide Xu Donglin and brought honor and glory for China.

In 2010, she joined the national athletics team    2     was made up of disabled people. She has had to experience countless challenges. “As a blind person, I learn things     3    (slowly) than other people do,” she said. Sports competitions for disabled     4    (athlete) require blind runners to be assisted by a guide. Liu met Xu in 2013 and since then, the two     5    (train) hard together, linked by a thin rope. “To other people, this may just be     6    ordinary rope, but to us, it is the eye, the direction and trust. We depend     7     the rope to feel the turns and the distance between us. Only when she trusts me     8    (complete) is she able to run boldly(大胆地),” Xu told CCTV.

At the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Paralympic Games, after    9    (cross) the finish line, Xu fell heavily because of a pain in his right knee. “In fact, when I was running, my leg was already so    10    (pain) that I could not feel anything. I only had one thought, which was to accompany her (Liu) to the end,” he told CCTV after the race.

It’s well known that Chinese women’s volleyball team     1     (be) the national pride since it first won the championship in 1981. Whenever there was a competition for them, people across the country would cheer for them. But few knew how hard they worked     2     (make) it look so easy.

The movie Leap,    3     hit Chinese mainland on Sept 25, 2020, tells us the story behind the team. It shows several generations of volleyball players and their journey     4     becoming an international powerhouse.

What attracted people most were not only their     5     (impress) skills but also the mental strength they showed in the competition. To win the match, China’s ladies trained hard,    6     (live) a dull daily life of never-ending practice.    7    , they refused to quit working even after the stadium lights had gone out.

The road to the championship is not     8     smooth one. The Chinese women’s volleyball team has fallen to troughs(低谷). Deng Yaping, who was a well-known table tennis player, was born in 1973, in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. She started playing table tennis at the age of 5 and    1    (show) her great gift. Four years later, she won her provincial junior championship. At the age of 13, she won her first     2     (nation) championship and beat many other competitors in all kinds of matches in    3     following years. She had won 18 championships by the time she retired(退役) from sports at the age of 24. Deng Yaping is regarded as one of the greatest     4    (player) in the history of sport.

However,     5    (compare) with other athletes, she made more efforts    6    (achieve) her dream. At first, Deng Yaping    7    (refuse) by the Henan Provincial Team just because she wasn’t tall enough. Her path to success was filled with many other difficulties, none of     8     stopped her. Now, she has become a living legend in the sports field    10    home and abroad.

When it comes to volleyball, we can’t help     1     (think) of Lang Ping. Lang Ping used to be a     2     (fame) player. Now she is also known as a coach who brings honor     3     glory to our country. Led by her, Chinese womenvolleyball team won the world championship in 2019,     4     made the whole nation excited.

Lang Pingwas born in Tianjin in 1960. She began playingvolleyballas a teenagerand     5     (final) joined the national team in 1978. Her height made    6     possible for her to play volleyball well. Lang Ping and her teammates playedsowell that theywon goldmedalsseveral timesin    7    1980s.

In 1995, she returned to China to work as a coach. When the Chinese team was preparing for the 2015 WorldCup, her determination     8     (test).Her teamwas fallingapart， as she lost two important players. But Lang Ping did not lose heart. She     9     (face) difficulties before, and she knew that her young players could win if they worked together as a team. Two weeks later, they were world     10     (champion)!

Chinese teenager Quan Hongchan won the gold medal for the women’s 10-meter platform diving at the Tokyo Olympic Games on Thursday.

Quan is the youngest of 431 athletes    1    China sent to Tokyo for the Olympics. If the Games had gone on as scheduled last summer, she would have been too young    2    (meet) the minimum age (14) to compete in the diving competition. Now, she’s made Olympic history.

Each of Quan’s dives was the highest of the five rounds of competition at the 10-meter platform. Two scored perfect 10s from all seven    3    (judge). Only one judge found a flaw (瑕疵) with her final dive,    4    (award) her a 9.5 next to six 10s. But it didn't count, because    5    diving’s scoring system. The two highest and two    6    (low) scores are thrown out and multiplied by the dive’s degree of difficulty.     7    (eventual), only the three middle 10s counted on her final dive and    8    (add) up 96 when multiplied by the 3.2 degree of difficulty.

At such    9    young age, Quan was relatively unknown until winning the 2020 Chinese national championship at 13 years old. She    10    (be) a 17-year-old veteran (老手) when the Paris Olympics start in 2024.
