1 . Antarctica Polar Circle — Discovery and Learning Voyage
Dates | 4 Mar — 9 Mar 2023 |
Duration | 5 nights |
This Polar Circle and Antarctic Peninsula cruise (航行) passes through waters travelled by humpback whales. Stopping in various spots around the region, the journey offers the chance to hike and dive in the iceberg-heavy waters.
Day 1: End of the world, start of a journey
Ushuaia, Argentina is located on the far southern tip of South America. Starting in the afternoon, you set out from this small beautiful town on Tierra del Fuego and sail the mountainous Beagle Channel for the rest of the evening.
Days 2-3: Path of the polar explorers
Over the next two days on the Drake Passage, you enjoy some of the same experiences encountered (遇到) by the great polar explorers who first charted these regions: cool salt winds, rolling seas, maybe even a fin whale spouting (喷出) high into the air. After passing the Antarctic Convergence — Antarctica’s natural boundary, formed when north-flowing cold waters meet with warmer sub-Antarctic seas — you are in the circum-Antarctic upwelling zone (环南极上升流区).
Days 4-5: Familiar seas, familiar friends
Your return journey is far from lonely. While crossing the Drake, you’re again greeted by lots of seabirds remembered from the passage south. But they seem a little more familiar to you now, and you to them.
Day 6: There and back again
Every adventure, no matter how impressive, must eventually come to an end. It’s now time to get off the ship in Ushuaia, but with memories that will accompany you wherever your next adventure lies.

2 . People who visit Huangsiyang village in Huizhou, Guangdong province, are shocked by the grand scale of its ancient residential buildings. Covering an area of 220,000 square meters, the village was named “Huangsiyang” to express gratitude for the emperor’s kindness. With a history of over 500 years, the village’s architecture dates back to the late Ming Dynasty.
As part of a Guangdong provincial project that targets the high-quality rural (乡村的) development, Huangsiyang has made great efforts to promote its heritage protection and cultural tourism, which have breathed new life into the village. Yang Shouqiang, a village official, explained that the ancient village has more than 20 historical sites, making it the most well-preserved and largest ancient residential group in Huidong county. Yang said the village has attached great importance to education and culture, having produced over 20 examinees who passed the provincial-level exams after being invited to sit for the imperial examinations — the ancient form of the gaokao, China’s college entrance exam.
From 2022 to last year, a total of 65million yuan was invested in the protection and development of Huangsiyang ancient village. Recent surveys have shown significant improvements in the village’s surroundings and internal environment after it took measures to restore architecture and rivers, and improve lighting and other basic facilities. At the same time, the village introduced high-quality homestay (民宿) projects. These homestays preserve the original architectural style of the ancient buildings.
The village has attracted many tourists from the Guangdong — Hong Kong — Macao Greater Bay Area, who take part in team building activities and enjoy unique experiences. The increasing number of visitors to the village is also increasing sales of local snacks and agricultural products. 3 . Where to travel in February
Kangaroo Island, Australia
Unbelievably huge and being fortunate to have a surprising amount of coastline — 540km (335 miles) to be exact — this is where you may find you’ve owned an entire beach. Kangaroo Island invites guests to enjoy its unique local food, come across lovely Australian wildlife and discover some of the country’s best beaches. And the island is a total show-off during the Aussie summer months of January and February.
Mazatlán, Mexico
A Mexico visit in January or February means dry and relatively cooler days, providing some relief in wet coastal places. It’s also whale-watching season along the Pacific Coast. In Mazatlán, February is carnival time: the 2024 festival is the 126th celebration.
St Lucia, Caribbean
There’s hardly a wrong time to visit the Caribbean — yet February sees a great many groups of visitors hoping to get away from cold-weather countries. St Lucia’s independence from British rule in 1979 is celebrated on February 22, and marked by parades and celebratory events island-wide. Come prepared to party.
Hokkaido, Japan
February is when the temperatures are at the coldest in Japan for skiing, snowmobiling and snowboarding, and the season even offers an opportunity for outdoor lovers to try ice fishing on the top of a frozen lake. Sapporo Snow Festival—Hokkaido’s most famous festival, featured by thick snow and amazing ice sculptures and giant slides — is held in February, bringing a large number of well-wrapped-up visitors.

4 . Recently, a new kind of tourism has sprung up in China. Called “special forces style tourism”, this new kind of tourism features visiting as many scenic interests as possible in a short time and most of these visitors are college students.
A common student from Shanghai, Yu Yinghua, is one of them. The 22-year-old started the “special forces style tourism” in March after she was attracted by such experiences of Xiaohongshu travel bloggers. “Stuck in the school for almost three years due to the COVID-19, I’m hungry to take trips in my spare time,” said Yu.
“Making a plan carefully before hand is important,” Yu said. She added that as she selected every destination in the city, she was able to find a lot of information and learn more about these sites. That would help her save time when traveling on-site and enjoy the sites better. Her most recent trip was to Shanghai. Starting at 7 am, the 22-year-old visited nine local attractions. “That day, I walked almost 30,000 steps,” Yu said, “Though tired, I enjoyed the trip as much as days-long trips. It still lets me have a better understanding of the cities I go to.”
Unlike Yu who traveled in nearby cities, Chen Junjun, a doctoral student at Shanghai Advanced Research Institute, CAS, likes to travel far to free herself of academic stress. In April, the 24-year-old took a two-day trip to Xi’an, Shaanxi. During her trip, she visited all the scenic sites in the city. “With many academic responsibilities, such a trip can bring a splash of color to my stressful life!” said Chen.
Even so, the 24-year-old added that such tourism is not suitable for everyone. Chen said that it’s labor-consuming as visitors have to see so many sites in a short period. Such trips are not flexible as days-long trips in which you can change your plan as you like. “Thus, abundant energy and a calm mind are necessary for ‘special forces style tourism’,” said Chen.

A.Sports. | B.Food. | C.Society. | D.Science. |
5 . The Most Breathtaking Theaters in the World
Shakespeare’s Globe Theater (London, UK)
The original Globe Theater was built by Shakespeare’s company in 1599, but was destroyed by fire in 1613. A replica was built in 1997 just meters from the original site. The new 857-seat structure has several modern features. It has the first and only straw roof permitted in London since the great fire of 1666.
