However, with the pandemic (流行病) far from over, it may not be proper or convenient to travel now. But that doesn’t mean trip planning needs to be canceled (取消), too. There is some good news for global travelers: According to researchers,     4     (look) ahead to your next adventure could benefit your mental health, even if you’re not sure when that adventure will be.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。2022年6月13日,黄石国家公园遭遇洪水袭击。文章介绍了此次洪水袭击带来的一系列影响和官方所采取的应对措施。

4 . A flood hit Yellowstone National Park on June 13, 2022. The disaster was caused by a combination of unusually heavy rains and rapid snow melt. The high and fast water flows destroyed bridges and swept away entire roadways, leaving communities and homes isolated. Fortunately, the approximately 10,000 park visitors were safely evacuated.

The town of Gardiner, along the Montana-Wyoming border, was particularly hard hit. The floodwaters left almost 900 people with no power or water for many days. Gardiner’s economy, which depends on the almost three-quarters of a million visitors who pass through the park’s north gate annually, is likely to take a hit. The floodwaters severely damaged the main north entrance road to Yellowstone, and could take years to rebuild.

Park officials have begun work on improving an alternative road to Gardiner. This will ensure that locals can access food, supplies, and other essential emergency services. A limited number of tourists may also be allowed into Gardiner once the road is stable.

Yellowstone’s north gate is closed indefinitely. But the park’s south gate opened to visitors on June 22, 2022. Park officials have started a new entry system to prevent overcrowding. It is based on the last number of the visitor’s vehicle license plate and the calendar date of the month. Cars with odd (奇数的) numbers can visit the park on odd days of the month, while those with even (偶数的) numbers can go on even days.

Established in 1872, Yellowstone is America’s oldest national park. The 3,472-square-mile reserve spans three states and is home to many unique wildlife. It is known for its natural beauty that includes mountains, rivers and lakes. The forces of fire and ice shaped the park over thousands of years.

1. What does the underlined word “isolated” in paragraph 1 probably mean?
A.Tracked.B.Separated.
C.Decorated.D.Improved.
2. What was the possible result of the flood?
A.Gardiner’s economy would get into trouble.
B.Communities and homes were left in ruins.
C.Almost 900 people were trapped in the park.
D.The park’s south gate was closed for a while.
3. What can be inferred from the text?
A.Local people can get daily necessities from visitors.
B.The park has adopted a new system to recognize faces.
C.The license plate number decides when cars enter the park.
D.More tourists may flood into the park for geological features.
4. Which of the following statements is true according to the text?

文章大意:这是一篇记叙文,文章描述了作者出门旅行离家前后的心路历程。

6 . This journey began this morning almost an hour later than I had planned, although I had completed my packing before eight o’clock. I was quite clear about the fact that once I left, my house would stand empty for probably the first time since the day it was built. It was a strange feeling and perhaps explains why I was leaving so late, walking around the house many times over, checking one last time to see that all was in order.

It is hard to explain my feelings once I did finally set off. As I drove further and further from the house, I found the surroundings grow unrecognizable. I began to have a feeling of unease mixed with excitement. I took a turning and found myself on a road circling the edge of a hill. I could sense the steep (陡峭的) drop to my left. I felt a sense of alarm that I was perhaps not on the correct road at all, but speeding off in the wrong direction into a wilderness. It was only the feeling of a moment, but it caused me to slow down. And even when I was sure I was on the right road, I felt forced to stop the car a moment to think carefully.

I decided to step out and stretch (伸展) my legs a little. On the one side of the road, thickets and small trees rose sharply, while on the other I could now see the distant countryside and a town nearby.

I walked a little way along the roadside, when I heard a voice behind me. Until this point I had believed myself quite alone and I turned in some surprise. Sitting on the large stone was a thin, whitehaired man. He called to me again and signaled me to join him. For a moment, I took him for a homeless man, but then I saw he was just some local man enjoying the fresh air and summer sunshine, and saw no reason not to do so.

1. Why did the author set off later than planned?
A.Because he repeatedly checked the house.
B.Because he was feeling sad about leaving the house.
C.Because packing his belongings took longer than expected.
D.Because there was no one to help him get everything ready.
2. What caused the author to start driving more slowly?
A.The road had become steep.
B.He realized he was driving too fast.
C.The beautiful scenery attracted him.
D.He suddenly feared that he might get lost.
3. When the author walked out of his car, he ________.
A.didn’t expect to see anyone
B.didn’t want to speak to anybody
C.didn’t know there was a town nearby
D.couldn’t see anything because of the tree
4. What was the author’s attitude to his trip?
A.He just wanted to finish it.
B.He felt unable to continue it.
C.He regretted having started it.
D.He had mixed feelings about it.

文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。作者讲述了自己在黄牛峡游玩的经历。

8 . It is 10 in the morning, and I am travelling by raft down the Li River. The sun is already burning hot even though it has not yet reached full strength, but a calm breeze cools my skin. So far the day is wonderful, but the purpose of my trip is not just to have fun: I am following in the footsteps of Xu Xiake (1587-1641), the famous Chinese travel writer and geographer. Though Xu was from Jiangsu, he spent more than 30 years travelling throughout the country, and greatly admired my destination today—Ox Gorge.

As we flow down the river, we are surrounded by steep hills sticking up into the sky—karsts. Unique among mountains, karsts were formed over thousands of years as rain entered the acidic (酸性的) soil and melted the soft rock, leaving the harder rock behind. Guangxi is full of karsts, giving it some of the most interesting—and beautiful—scenery in the world. Xu was one of the first people to make a careful study of Guilin’s karsts and their related cave systems. He, like many people today, found them fascinating.

Suddenly, our raft hits some rapids, and I find myself covered in water. I turn to my raftsman and we share a laugh. The water not only keeps us cool, but it is all part of the adventure.

What made someone like Xu spend years travelling thousands of kilometres away from home? Perhaps it’s the same reason as mine: to explore the world and to discover new things. Yet, perhaps no one in China travelled farther or longer than Xu Xiake. At least, if anyone did, they did not write about it.

When our raft reaches Ox Gorge, it proves to be every bit as beautiful as I expected—a watery heaven on earth. The raft is tied up, and then I head out to explore. That afternoon, I find a cave on the river. I wade (蹚) into it and the water grows shallower, until finally I am walking on dry land. Up ahead I see a light and hear laughter echoing off the cave walls. There is a large pool of mud, and a group of young people are jumping into it and swimming around. I run and join them. Soon, like my new friends, I am covered in gray mud from head to toe. After an hour of play, I head back out of the cave and take a swim in the river to get clean. And I wonder, when Xu Xiake came here nearly five hundred years ago, did he examine the mud like a scientist? Or did he jump in? Of course he jumped in. You know he did.

1. Which of the following is UNTRUE about Xu Xiake?
A.He passed away in his late sixties.
B.He showed so much admiration for Ox Gorge.
C.He spent more than 30 years travelling throughout China.
D.He was a well-known Chinese travel writer and geographer.
2. What does the second paragraph mainly tell us?
A.The author is fond of the steep hills sticking up into the sky.
B.How rain entered the acidic soil and melted the soft rock.
C.Karsts contribute to the fascinating scenery in Guangxi.
D.The author is excited to flow down the Li River.
3. Why is the raft tied up?
A.Something is wrong with the raft.
B.The raftsman is tired and wants to have a rest.
C.The author hopes to enter the cave on the river.
D.The author wants to travel around the area to learn about it.
4. What is the right order of what the author does according to the last paragraph?
①He walks on dry land.
②He wades into the cave.
③He swims in the river.
④He jumps into the mud.
⑤He hears laughter echoing off the cave walls.
A.①⑤③④②B.②①⑤④③C.③④①②⑤D.⑤②③④①

9 . NEW DELHI—Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday inspected the bridge collapse site in the western state of Gujarat, where more than 100 people were killed, officials said. Ahead of the visit, Modi chaired a high-level meeting on Monday night during which he was briefed about rescue efforts.

The century-old British-era pedestrian suspension bridge (吊桥) collapsed on Sunday evening, with hundreds of people falling into Machchhu River in Morbi town, about 241 km west of the capital city, Gandhinagar. Reports said that 177 people were rescued and over 100 people were undergoing treatment at the Morbi civil hospital.

Soon after the bridge visit, Modi reached the civil hospital in Morbi to meet the injured. The prime minister was seen asking the survivors about their health. According to officials, search and rescue operations, carried out by teams of the State Disaster Response Force and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Indian navy, the Indian air force and the Indian army, were called off (取消) on Monday evening and began again on Tuesday morning. Officials said Modi also met with those involved in rescue and relief operations.

The local government of Gujarat has already ordered an investigation into the deadly collapse of the bridge. The bridge is a popular tourist attraction in the area. It was shut for renovation (整修) for seven months and was open for the public on Oct 26, the Gujarati New Year.

Reports said that around 500 people, much beyond its capacity, were on the suspension bridge at the time when it crashed into the river.

Police have arrested nine people including officials of Oreva, the company that carried out the repair work, ticket sellers and security men. However, the owners of the company have not been arrested. Oreva group is actually a Gujarat-based watchmaker company. Reports said that the watchmaker reportedly outsourced (转包) the “technical aspect of the renovation” to a smaller construction company, Devprakash Solutions.

Oreva has been accused of violating multiple safety rules, leading to the huge tragedy just four days after the bridge reopened to the public. Questions have been raised over why Oreva with no experience in construction was given responsibility for maintaining a bridge.

A.He paid a visit to the bridge.
B.He held and took charge of a meeting.
C.He went to see the injured in the hospital.
D.He met with those involved in rescue and relief operations.
2. How can we evaluate the bridge before it collapsed?
A.It was too old to repair well.
B.It was maintained very well.

3. What can replace the underlined word “violating” in the last paragraph?
A.Making.B.Obeying.C.Breaking.D.Replacing.
