I wake up to the sound of the wind buffeting the cloth of my tent. Even though the sun is brightly shining, telling whether it is morning or night is     1     I’m above the Arctic Circle, where in summer the sun never sets. Checking my     2    . I see that it is 7: 30 a.m. I leave my tent and walk over to the mountain     3    . Spreading out before me, branches of the Rapa River flow through the v    4     below. I’m in the remote far north of Sweden in Sarek National Park, a place with no roads or     5    .

Sarek’s mountains used to be covered by vast sheets of i    6    . Around 9,000 years ago, this ice melted, leaving behind about 100 glaciers. Soon after, reindeer began to arrive. Following the reindeer were the Sami     7    , who made this t    8     their home. Getting here is quite difficult, so     9     from the Sami very few people have ever seen Sarek. In 1909, Sarek was made a national park in order to keep the land in its natural     10    .

Today was my first day back in San Francisco after camping in the Redwood Forest and visiting the wine country of Napa Valley. I have to admit that it d    1     feels good to be back in the city again. And what a city — a city that was able to rebuild itself after the earthquake that o    2     in 1906. There are so many beautiful old buildings — many — sitting on top of big hills, offering great v    3     of the city, the ocean, and the Golden Gate Bridge.

My hotel is near d    4    , in the Mission District, one of the oldest parts of the city. Many of the people living here are from Mexico or Central America. This district used to be a p    5    area of town, but is now a centre for art, music, and food. I    6     fact, an art movement called the Mission School started here. It’s i    7     by graffiti art and comic art. I walked around looking at the s    8     art for a few hours. It was quite modern and l    9     . Afterwards, I ate some delicious Mexican-Chinese noodles from a food truck. A real m    10     of cultures here!

My name is Wang Kun. Ever since middle school, my sister Wang Wei and I have     1     about taking a great bike trip.
