1 . As a boy, I was a little ashamed of my hometown. Visitors almost always made unfriendly: remarks about the distinct smell as they approached the town. A few historical industrial buildings also remain complete, as they’ve been preserved for a century. Fairbank Heavy Hardware and the Oil Well Supply Company continue to provide the tools and materials required to serve many oil wells in the area that are still pumping and producing the: precious goods. These are just a few of the amazing structures built in a time of wealth and glory.
The present atmosphere of the town is inviting and enthusiastic. Walking tours, a variety of restaurants, unique stores and professional summer theatres and special events throughout the year make it a popular destination for many people.
No longer ashamed, I now smile with pride when I think of my hometown. As our new slogan states, “You’ll Be Surprised!”

4 . The Taj Mahal(泰姬陵)is a love story, a sad and beautiful one. If it didn’t exist, we would easily imagine that the story of its construction was simply a fairy tale. Three hundred years ago, there lived an Indian emperor called Shah Jahan. His wife was a beautiful and bright woman whom he loved greatly. Her title was Mumtazl
Mahal: its shortened form Taj Mahal, means “pride of the palace”. In the year 1630 this beloved wife of the emperor died. He was so brokenhearted that he thought of giving up his throne(王位). He decided out of his love for his wife, to build her the most beautiful tomb that he had ever seen.
He summoned the best artists and architects from India, Turkey, Persia and Arabia and finally, the design was completed. It took more than twenty thousand men working over a period of 18 years to build the Taj Mahal, one of the most beautiful buildings in the world.
The building itself stands on a marble platform 29 meters square and 6—7 meters high. Towers rise from each of the four comers. The Taj Mahal itself soars another 61 meters into the air. It is an eight-sided building made of white marble.
The emperor planned to build an identical(相同的)tomb of black marble for himself on the other side of the river connected by a silver bridge. However, his son put him into a prison in the palace before he could finish, and for the rest of his life, he could only gaze across river at the tomb of his beloved wife.

5 . I spent a fantastic day in Varanasi. And it wouldn’t be wrong to say that the day was one of the best days when I felt more alive than ever, I was lost in exploration and struck by the beauty of the city. Varanasi, one of the most ancient cities of India, is located on the banks of the river Ganges, which gives it a breathtaking look. There are around 85 ghats(staircases that lead to the river), which are perfect places to walk and explore the city.
When I reached the hotel, it was 11 am in the morning, and I was exhausted. But I didn’t want to waste the day sleeping. So, I immediately took a bath, ordered food, ate it like someone who hadn’t eaten for days, and then headed out for the adventure.
Assi Ghat,one of the most famous ghats of Varanasi,was only 1.5 km from my hotel. So, I decided to walk to Assi Ghat.I found several temples,shops for various items,fast-food corners, and auto drivers looking for customers. The weather was quite fantastic as it was spring season.
When I reached the Assi Ghat,I got my first glimpse of the river Ganges. The shiny blue water stretched under the infinite blue sky gave a brilliant look. The platform above the staircase was crowded with enthusiastic visitors and vendors(小贩)selling delicious foods. Below stairs, there was a 50 m wide sandy area stretching along the length of the river, which gets filled with water in the rainy season.
After taking a short night walk, I reached my hotel happy and satisfied. I slept early to wake timely and enjoy the sunrise in the ghats. The orange sun and its reflection on the water, the magnificent look of the city, numerous migratory birds, and chilled air helped me forget my tiredness.
I will never forget this happy day.
