For as long as I could remember, I had wanted to travel into the Amazon jungle. During the last summer break at university, I decided to travel there. I didn’t have much money. So I found the least expensive flight to Lima, Peru. Once there, I planned on traveling to the town of La Merced. To get there, however, I had to take a taxi for the next fourteen hours.
By the time I reached La Merced, I found a hotel and asked the man at the front desk if there were any travel routes into the jungle. His simple answer was “no”. In fact, there was no way to go farther into the jungle except by hiring a boat to travel down the Amazon. However, I found that an impossible choice.
At that point, I decided to go out and get something to eat. I had walked less than a minute from the hotel when a rainstorm swept across the town. I raced ahead to the closest restaurant to get out of the rain.
I took a table by myself and ordered a meal. I was very tired. I was also feeling sorry for myself. I had flown down to Peru and then taken a fourteen—hour journey in a taxi only to discover there was no way to get into the jungle.
Then, I saw an old man. He headed over to my table. “Hi, my name’s Fritz,” he said in English. With a smile, I introduced myself and we talked for half an hour. I told him my story. He could see I was tired and unhappy, and his eyes softened as he listened.
“Come with me and stay with me and my wife Helga at our home in the jungle. We have a coffee plantation (种植园) there. You can stay as long as you’d like. At six o’clock tomorrow morning, I’ll pick you up at the hotel and take you on a trip into the jungle,” Fritz said.
“Thank you very much,” I said. “Six o’clock tomorrow morning.”

7 . Last year I went to the Rio de Janeiro Carnival, and it blew my mind. It had been my dream to attend the famous carnival for many years, so I was excited. However, the moment I arrived, I was a little bit nervous because there were so many people on the streets. They say that five or six million people come to Rio during carnival time and about two million of them are on the streets on any given day. Luckily, I had a local guide, my sisterˈs friend Ronnie. The carnival is most definitely all about the samba. Itˈs a style of music and dance which has its roots in Africa. Lots of Africans were used as slave labor by the Portuguese when Brazil was being colonized (殖民), so this mixed culture of African, Latin and European styles is really strong here. Samba music is usually fast and exciting with a lot of drums and harmonic vocals (和声). Itˈs the kind of music that you canˈt help dancing to, and I was learning that as I followed Ronnie through the crowd, my hips and shoulders were swinging (摇摆) almost involuntarily.
Ronnie had got us tickets for the samba parade, the symbol of Brazilian culture, inside the Sambadrome where the top samba schools compete for the championship title, but we still had a long way to go through the street parties. He said most people enjoy the carnival by making their own parties in the street. About the samba parade, twelve main teams compete for the championship, and if they win, their performance will be talked about for years to come. So, you must be wondering how it was. Well, Iˈm afraid I canˈt tell you. Ronnie and I never made into the Sambadrome. We spent the day moving from one street party to another. There were more snacks, more drinks and lots of dancing. Do I regret missing the main parade? Not at all. I experienced the carnival like the locals, and it was truly amazing.

9 . Explore Central Park, one of the largest city parks in the world and one of the most famous symbols of New York. Let’s have a look at its main sights.
Central Park is New York’s largest city park and one of the biggest in the world, with an area of 843 acres. This park is home to man-made lakes, waterfalls, grass and wooded areas. You will also find the Central Park Zoo, among other attractions in this green space of New York.
Besides being the city’s primary green lungs, Central Park is also a favorite spot for many New Yorkers. It is perfect for sunbathing, going for walks, or doing outdoor sports. Something that we found curious is seeing so many people running with their babies in prams (婴儿车).
On Foot or By Bicycle
To get to know some of the wildest parts of Central Park, we suggest walking. However, to get a general feel for the whole park, the best thing to do is to hire a bicycle and enjoy the scenery.
If you decide to hire a bike, you will find lots of bike rental stores around Central Park that are not very expensive.

The museum is housed in the Garnier Building, the oldest surviving Chinese building in a major area of California.
CENTRAL PLAZA
A big statue of Bruce Lee has become a must-photograph site in Chinatown’s Central Plaza. The late martial arts star once had a studio in Chinatown at 628 W. College St.
Nearby is Dragon Chasing Pearl, which was originally painted on the wall in 1941 by Tyrus Wong. The artist, who passed away in December 2016 at age 106, was famous for his work in films, particularly as the lead artist on Disney’s Bambi.
FESTIVALS
Chinatown hosts many party-style events throughout the year, like the music and food truck Chinatown Summer Nights, the yearly Moon Festival and the biggest one, Chinese New Year! It’s really a good place to experience L.A.’s cultural diversity.
