5 . Peru is famously known as “Land of the Incas”. A trip to Peru has been on my wish list for quite a while. It was finally time for me to visit the country.

My first day started in Lima, the capital of Peru. I met with the G Adventures representative (代表) here about the tour. G Adventures is an organization that helps you to connect with other like-minded people in small group-based travel adventures. They played a big part in helping to make Peru an unforgettable experience for me! Day two had me taking a flight from Lima to Cusco. Many people visit Cusco for shopping but for me, the main reason for spending a day or two in Cusco was to acclimatize (适应) to the altitude (海拔). As I’d decided to reach the wonder of Machu Picchu, acclimatizing became important to avoid altitude sickness. I was happy to spend a day exploring Cusco. Cusco was once the capital of the Inca Empire. Today, it’s famous for its artists, paintings, clothing and traditional instruments. There’s something for everyone in this city.

The day finally came! Day three had me enjoying a lovely guided visit to Machu Picchu at sunrise. I had free time to explore the city on my own as well as with my guide. It was a lot to take in! I had to stop for a moment and felt the energy of such an ancient city. The history here was unbelievable and I will never forget my time here for as long as I live!

Librairie Jousseaume

This antiquarian bookshop, dating back to 1826, specialises 19th- and 20th-century books on history, poetry, theatre and music. The shop is located in a covered arcade designed by an architect in 1823. It is neoclassical (新古典主义的) in design, with a glass roof and a mosaic floor. Librairie Jousseaume takes the form of two shops facing each other on a corner of the arcade, and is home to as many as 40,000 books.

The Bouquinistes are riverside booksellers who have been around since the 16th century. These booksellers began as somewhat lawless figures, disliked by the government as they were able to get around the censorship (审查) rules that limited official booksellers. In themid-19th century they were officially allowed to sell books, and now they are a main sight along the River Seine. They feature on France’s list of intangible (无形的) cultural heritage.
