1 . Green architecture is designed in an environmentally-friendly way. Many people think interest in green architecture has only begun in recent years.     1    Our ancient ancestors were intelligent. They also knew the fact that green architecture is more able to fit in with nature and more practical.

    2     These include heating and cooling, water usage, environmental quality and energy usage. Architects can deal with all of these in various ways, all of which are designed to increase efficiency without affecting the function of the building.

To make it, much of green architecture focuses on building intelligently. For example, plumbing systems (管道系统) may be designed to use less water while still functioning normally.     3    

Many architects build environmentally to show people that it’s possible. And they want to show the fact that being environmentally-friendly does not have to make a building bad-looking.     4    A courtyard with plants, for example, can be nicer to view.

The green design can be kept in mind when we build various future buildings, ranging from a private home to a tall office building. Green designs can also be applied to remodeling (改造) and repairing existing buildings.     5     Many governments are thus encouraging remodeling and repairing instead of building new ones.

2 . As a well-known Chinese saying goes, “A journey of one thousand miles begins with a single step.”     1     They turned off all lights and electronics from 8:30 to 9:30 pm local time.

Earth Hour is put forward by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). On March 31, 2007, the organization encouraged the citizens in Sydney to switch off all lights and turn off all non-essential devices for one hour. Over 2 million households and 2,100 companies answered the call. This small action helped save 10% of the electricity in a regular evening hour.     2    

Besides making an immediate difference, the WWF says the worldwide participation shows people’s desire to do their share to reverse (逆转) climate change.     3     According to the WWF, simple actions such as turning off unnecessary lights or choosing wood pencils over plastic ones can also help reverse climate change.

    4     In 2008, over 50 million people in over 5,000 cities worldwide observed the event, and the numbers have only grown since. Today, Earth Hour is celebrated in over 180 countries.

Are you not sure what to do without your phone or television for a whole hour? WWF suggests organizing a candlelight dinner for your family or, even better, a picnic under the stars.     5     Remember that climate change can be reversed if we all help, so be sure to do your part!

In southern China, there is a famous road     1    (build) across Poyang Lake, which lies in the north of Jiangxi Province, China and is known as China’s second     2     (large) lake. People in China also call it “the most beautiful road under the water.”

This road is sure     3     (attract) a lot of attention towards the end of May every year. A lot of people come out of     4     (curious). The water level of the lake is so close to the surface of the road,     5     makes the view ahead broad and bright when people drive along. It’s as though they were taking a boat across the lake. For the next few months, this road is not above the surface    7    under the water. When the water level of Poyang Lake starts to go up, the road surface becomes unseen. However, drivers can still drive across the lake safely     8     watching the guardrails(防撞护栏) fixed on either side of the road. For thrill-seeking motorists, it’s like     9     (drive) an amphibious(水陆两栖的) super car. Then in a few days, the entire road     10     (flood) with the continuously rising water. A few months later, the road will reappear.

During the World Elephant Day on Thursday, Chinese and foreign experts gathered in one online forum(论坛)     1     ( discuss) ways to protect elephants better based on the migration(迁徙) of 15 wild elephants in Southwest China's Yunnan Province. This shows how Chinese people care about the    2     ( protect) of these giant friends.

The 15 wild Asian elephants among    3     one male turned back in July finally returned to their habitat after touring for 17 months in Yunnan Province. The case was taken by the experts as a    4     ( success) example on how to protect and guide the migration of wild elephants.
