2 . My 5-year-old daughter Kai walked around a bus stop, picking up candy wrappers and plastic bottles and throwing them in the waste bin. We were a visiting family here, but she was cleaning the sidewalk, which didn’t shock me, nor was I _________ when strangers looked at us.

The last time our family was at the beach, we still picked up plastic bottles. Most __________, though, we saw an octopus (章鱼) playing around our feet, a __________ of a harmonious habitat worth protecting.

3 . 10-year-old Sasha Olsen went on a trip in the summer of 2021 with her family to Vietnam and Japan. She was shocked at the ocean’s pollution levels and dying sea animals.

“We went on this trip and I was so_________,” said Sasha. “But when I saw the way the oceans had become, I got upset. I wanted to know why things were this way but couldn’t find an_________.”

When she returned home to Bal Harbour, Florida, she grew even more_________. She learned some of the_________in South Florida had been closed by the health department because the_________had too much bacteria (细菌)in it.

Sasha sought the_________of her cousin, Narmina Aliyev. 5 . On Feb. 23, student group Grassroots hosted its monthly clothing exchange. It is a ________ activity on campus where students can ________ clothes in exchange for new ones.

“One of the ________ things about sustainability(可持续发展) is reuse,” Zein Tynon, Co-President and Clothing Exchange Chair, said in an interview with CT. “Instead of ________ old clothes or buying new clothes, you can donate them and give them a new ________. You might be done with that clothing item. ________, someone else might not be.” According to Tynon, about 100-150 items are ________ and 100-150 items are taken at the exchanges each month.

Tynon told CT that the clothing exchange has been ________ by Grassroots for many years. In response to how the clothing exchange has an effect on the campus’ ________ of sustainability, Tynon said there is a ________ influence. “It does make a big ________. Throughout the semester when students realize we have these exchanges, they bring clothes and ________ a lot more. So it does create a ________ where everyone can share their ________.”

Co-President of Grassroots Alan Rojas said the club not only ________ sustainability on campus, but off campus as well. Another Grassroots ________ is bringing speakers to campus to talk about sustainability and environmental protection.

“The clothing exchange is ________ our most known activity in our club, and I think it’s nice because there’re a lot of ________ who don’t know what to do with their clothes,” Rojas said. “I think it’s a really ________ way to get students more involved with sustainability.”

6 . Born into a family of motorcyclists, Bridget McCutchen was able to witness firsthand the ______ and excitement that riding a motorbike could bring from a very early age. But the idea of riding around the world hadn't ever ______ her until her older brother pointed out that she was still young enough to beat the world record for the youngest person to circle the ______ on a motorcycle.

McCutchen, whose longest road trip had been from Wisconsin to Washington, says she ______ the idea at first. But it kept coming back into her ______.

8 . I wanted to travel to the Caribbean but couldn’t afford it. By chance, a friend________“pet sitting”, a service to help look after pets when owners are away from homes.
