Cities are diverse ecosystems, and a large number of species share our urban areas. As our city spreads, we need think about     1     it is like for other species to have human neighbors.

Because cities     2     (build) for humans, they do not always provide suitable habitats for wildlife. For example, most city parks are kept neat and tidy so that humans will find them     3     (pretty) than before. But when we cut grass or plant flowers, we destroy natural habitats.

When a bridge in Austin, Texas was repaired, engineers added small gaps running along the length of its bottom,     4     made a good home for bats, and soon the bridge was the home of thousands of bats. At first, people were afraid     5     the bats. Now, they have come to value     6     (they) winged neighbors. The bats are a tourist     7     (attract), and they eat lots of bugs every night.

There are also structures built with the objective of     8     (bring) wildlife into the city. The Beijing Olympic Forest Park is a good example. If we learn to share our space, we can become better neighbors to the wildlife around us.

Pioneering underwater photographer David Doubilet is a master craftsman,     1    combines technology and capture (捕捉) life underwater,         2    (bring) images back to the surface for those who might never see those sights with their own eyes. Entering the sea as a journalist, artist, and         3     (explore), Doubilet documents both the beauty and the   devastation (破坏) in our oceans.

He believes that the photography has the power         4     (educate), and influence change. Doubilet is deeply concerned about the future of the oceans. Northern Kenya is a vast, varied and breathtakingly beautiful landscape     1     you can find the “Towers of the Savanna”-reticulated (网纹的) giraffes. However, before we could begin to research into these giraffes, they are facing     3     (disappear).

Across Africa, all giraffe populations     4     (decline) by over 70 percent in the past 20 years. Main reasons are illegal hunting, land degradation (恶化) and lack     5     living places. To better understand the wildlife found here, Wildwatch Kenya seeks     8     (identify) and track the giraffes in conservation field sites. Jingdezhen porcelain(瓷器)is Chinese porcelain produced in or near Jingdezhen in southern China. Jingdezhen has produced porcelain     1     (century)ago. 6 . China’s first overpass for wildlife migration has already come into use. Windsor Castle is surrounded by a lot of green gardens in the English countryside. It looks out onto the River Thames and sits next     1     a hunting ground. It was built just outside of London     2     (protect) the capital from the enemies on the west side.

Yueyang Tower is     1     ancient Chinese tower on the shore of Lake Dongting. It is one of the Three Great Towers of Jiangnan. Yueyang Tower became famous for Memorial to Yueyang Tower (《岳阳楼记》)     2     (write) by Fan Zhongyan, who was an excellent minister of the northern Song Dynasty (960-1127)in China.

An Italian town will pay people hundreds of euros(欧元) per year if they cycle to work instead of    1    (drive) their cars. The government will pay    2    (cycle)25 cents per kilometre, up to a monthly limit of 50 euros. That means commuters(通勤者)who switch to two wheels could pocket up to 600 euros in a year. It is said to be the first such plan in Italy.

Last Friday a storm swept through two villages in the New Territories,    1    (destroy) fourteen homes.
