1 . It used to be that a "green classroom" referred to the color of paint on the wall. But today's green classrooms are greener than that! New "green" classrooms help schools save money and provide clean environments where students learn better.

Many classrooms are going green by adding solar panels(太阳能电池板)to their roofs. The solar panels collect energy from the sun and use it to power lights and computers. The panels help make green classrooms grid-neutral, which means the panels create at least as much electricity as the classrooms use. In addition, new lighting and air systems can be programmed to lower energy costs and water use.

Many new "green" classrooms are built using recycled materials. Some even use pieces of material from blue jeans to insulate(使隔热)walls and roofs. The old-jean insulation cuts heat and air conditioning bills.

Green schools feature many other new ideas. Some classrooms are painted using special odor-free paints that help improve indoor air. Some use no glues that add chemical smells to the air. Others use triple-pane windows(三层玻璃)and skylights to help keep classrooms warm in cold weather and let in lots of natural daylight.

Experts say the benefits of building greener classrooms go beyond cost savings. Studies show that a healthful environment with good air quality can cut colds and flu by more than 50 percent. That means fewer sick days for students and teachers. Studies have shown that natural light and other green features improve student learning and test scores too.

1. What do we know about the present green classroom?

C.Material from jeans.D.Lighting and air systems.
3. The underlined phrase "odor-free paints" in paragraph 4 means that the paints_________.
A.save moneyB.have no smell
C.cost nothingD.have no color
4. Building greener classrooms has all of the following benefits except_________.
A.bettering air qualityB.getting natural light
C.Curing flu and coldsD.improving test scores
5. What is the best title for the text?
A.Classrooms Are Growing Greener
B.Make Your Classroom Green Now
C.Greener Classrooms Benefit Students
D.Green Is the Best Choice for Classrooms

2 . October 19th marks the beginning of Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights which is marked by colorful but harmful fireworks across India. But this year, the country's top court has moved to carry out a complete ban (禁令) on the sale of fireworks in and around New Delhi. The decision is intended to help improve the Indian capital's poor air quality, but will it work?

It is reported that air pollution led to 1.1 million deaths in India in 2015. New Delhi, considered among India's worst cities in terms of air quality, is on the front line in fighting the harmful effects. But at present, the government's pollution policy largely appears after pollution rather than before pollution. The smog-reducing measures, which include banning trucks from the city's roads and closing coal-fired power plants, are only carried out during periods of extreme pollution.

Air quality measurements provided by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee record smog levels across the city in real time. Those levels are based on the amount of PM 2.5, which are considered particularly harmful because they are small enough to get deep into the lungs and pass into other organs (器官),causing serious health risks.

The sale of fireworks was illegal last November following the situation of dangerously high PM 2.5 levels immediately after Diwali. However, the Indian Supreme Court thought a complete ban would be an extreme step. As a result, that order was reversed (撤销) this month. It is believed by the public that the government is unlikely to provide a lasting solution.

Fireworks aren't the only reason behind New Delhi's smog. In fact, New Delhi's pollution is also affected by its unfortunate geography. Sitting in a natural bowl and Surrounded by industrial and agricultural centers, the city keeps much of the pollution.

1. What is known about Diwali in India according to the passage?
A.It is a festival of fireworks.
B.It is celebrated nationwide.
C.It usually lasts for half a year.
D.It is the main cause of the pollution.
2. The underlined sentence in Paragraph 2 suggests that the government
A.reacted properly and quickly
B.has made effective policies
C.is working hard against pollution
D.does a poor job in reducing air pollution
3. What can we know about PM 2.5?
A.They consist of smog and dust.
B.They spread very slowly in New Delhi.
C.They are measured every week in New Delhi.
D.They are small enough to get into humans' organs.
4. What did the Indian Supreme Court think of the ban?
A.Effective.B.Improper.
C.Important.D.Harmful.
5. According to the last paragraph, which of the following factors contributes to New Delhi's air pollution?
A.Its climate.B.Its industries.
C.Its geography.D.Its population.

3 . 阅读短文,并按照题目要求用英语回答问题

At the age of seven, while his friends were spending their allowances on candy and toys, Jose Adolfo Quisocola was busy saving money for basic purchases. To try to get his peers (同龄人) to do the same, the boy from Peru came up with the idea of an eco- bank, the Bartselana Student Bank, which allows kids of all ages to become financially independent while also helping the environment.

Set up in 2012, the bank is the world's first bank for kids. To become a member, a kid has to bring in at least 5 kilograrms of solid waste and set a savings goal. Once accepted, all bank “partners” are required to deposit at least one additional kilogram of recyclables on a monthly basis and observe other requirements, such as attending financial education and environmental management workshops.

The waste accumulated is sold to local recycling companies, which, thanks to Jose's efforts, pay a higher - than - market rate for everything brought in by the bank members. The money received is placed in the personal account where they collect until the savings goal is reached. The account holder can then withdraw the money, or choose to leave it and make it continue to grow for a bigger target. “At the beginning, my teachers thought I was crazy or that a child could not undertake this type of project,” Jose recalls. “They did not understand that we are not the future of the country but its present. Luckily, I had the support of the school headmaster and an assistant in my class.”

The boy's efforts paid off, and by 2013, the bank had over 200 members, who brought in one ton of recyclable waste. Today, the eco - bank, which now has the support of several local institutions, boasts ten educational centers. They are designed to teach over 3, 000 students, aged 10 to 18, to become financially independent, use their money wisely, and help the environment. Not surprisingly, Jose's efforts have earned him several national and international awards. On November 20, 2018, Jose won Children's Climate Prize, which comes with a medal and $ 5, 500 in prize money and is given to a child or youth who has accomplished an extraordinary achievement for the climate or environment.

4 . Kayaking(皮划艇) is an activity enjoyed by many people of all ages. It requires little or no experience and nearly anyone of any skill level can participate. It’s most popular as a summertime sport, but it is also a great activity during the winter. Kayaking also seems relatively friendly to the environment, more so than speed boating or water skiing. Because a kayak doesn’t create large or frequent waves, require fuel, or let off polluted air, it is indeed a fairly safe activity for humans and wildlife alike.

Kayaking on freshwater lakes and streams creates little turbulence and therefore does not disturb fish or other aquatic life. Actually, the gentle paddling and movement of the kayak helps to bring seaweed to the surface, making for convenient snacking to the fish. However, there is a drawback to the all-you-can-buffet for your fishy friends. In addition to bringing food to the surface, kayaking also stirs up litter that’s been hiding beneath the waters. Some aquatic animals will mistake it for food. This could cause the animals to choke on the indigestible litter, leading to death. As hazardous as this sounds, it isn’t very likely for such an event to take place. Most litter in lakes and streams is found along the shoreline and settles in the sand and dirt, and isn’t likely to drift away to the main body of water. Unlike boats operated by motor and fuel, kayaks pose little or no harm to the fish swimming beneath. And because kayaks do not have a motor, fish have no risk of getting caught underneath the boat.

One potential hazard that results from kayaking is human waste. This depends solely on where you plan to kayak, and if there are resources available (such as campsites) along the shoreline. When there are no facilities in sight, you’re paddling in the middle of a lake, and nature calls, then often you are given no choice but to expel your waste in the middle of the water. While human waste is considered biodegradable, it can be harmful when swallowed by fish. The only preventative measure is to avoid using the water as a restroom. Some public lakes and streams have taken steps to preserve the quality of the water by requiring permits for kayaking. This won’t ease the human waste problem, but does help regulate entry into the lake and prevent it from becoming overcrowded.

An important factor to remember when kayaking is that you are a guest in someone else’s home. You may not be greeted by anyone or be able to kick up your feet and watch TV, but the water is home to many aquatic animals and wildlife. Just as you would not throw trash on the floor or destroy the home of another, you shouldn’t do it outdoors either. Keep all trash with you in your kayak and properly dispose of it after you return to shore. By doing your part, you will help keep kayaking a safe and enjoyable activity for yourself and the environment.

1. Which of the following statements is TRUE about Kayaking according to the passage?
A.Young people’s enjoyment of kayaking exceeds that of other people.
B.Water skiing has more negative effects on the environment than Kayaking.
C.Usually, kayaking is only practiced in the summer.
D.Whether you can kayak depends on resources available along the shoreline.
2. What does “this” in paragraph 2 refer to?
A.Providing aquatic animals with an all-you-can-buffet.
B.Stirring up litter to the surface of the water.
C.That aquatic animals choke to death because of eating the litter.
D.That most litter in lakes and streams is found along the shoreline and settles.
3. Which word or expression is closest in meaning to “biodegradable”?
A.Recycled.B.Environmentally harmless.C.Poisonous.D.Sustainable.
4. That some public waters require permits for kayaking may contribute to the following except________.
A.preserving the quality of the water thereB.stopping the waters from becoming too crowded
C.solving the problem of human wasteD.helping regulate entry into those waters
5. Which is the best title of the passage?
A.The environmental impacts of kayaking—is it dangerous?
B.The most popular water sports—kayaking
C.Advantages and disadvantages of kayaking
D.How to keep kayaking a safe and enjoyable activity?

6 . Heritage is our legacy (遗产) from the past, what we live with today, and what we pass on to future generations. Our cultural and natural heritage are both irreplaceable (无可取代的) sources of life and inspiration. Places as unique and diverse as the Pyramids of Egypt, the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and the Great Wall of China make up our world’s heritage.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) seeks to encourage the identification, protection and preservation of cultural and natural heritage around the world considered to be of outstanding value to humanity. This is embodied (体现)in an international treaty called the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, adopted by UNESCO in 1972.

How does a place become a World Heritage Site? It takes a lot of people to decide.

1)If a country wants one of its places to be on the World Heritage List, it has to ask UNESCO. The place must be important and special. UNESCO put the Great Wall on the list in 1987 because, it said, it was a great part of Chinese culture and beautifully made to go with the land. When a country asks, it must also make a plan for taking care of the place.

2)The World Heritage Committee of UNESCO talks about different places and decides whether to put them on the list. The committee meets every June. Many experts help the committee to decide.

3)After a new place goes on the list, UNESCO gives money to help keep it looking good. If a place is in serious danger, it may be put on the List of World Heritage Sites in Danger. UNESCO gives special care and help to those places.

4)Countries have to give UNESCO regular reports about places on the list. If UNESCO thinks a country isn’t taking good enough care of a place, the site will be taken off the list.

1. What is the main purpose of Paragraph 1?
A.To tell us what is heritage.
B.To explain the aims of protecting heritages.
C.To introduce some places of interest in the world.
D.To encourage people to pay a visit to famous sights.
2. About cultural and natural heritage around the world, UNESCO encourages all the following EXCEPT________.
A.identificationB.application
C.protectionD.preservation
3. If a place successfully becomes a World Heritage Site, the country________.
A.Will not get the support from UNESCO
B.should continue to take special care of it
C.won’t take trouble of caring for it
D.will try to put it on the List of World Heritage Sites in Danger
4. When do the committee meet up with each other?
A.every JuneB.every May
C.every FebruaryD.every March
5. The purpose of putting a place on the World Heritage List is________.
A.to attract more tourists from other countries
B.to get more money and help from other countries
C.to have it taken better care of
D.to make it known to other countries

7 . Sports can help you keep fit and get in touch with nature. However, whether you are on the mountains, in the waves, or on the grassland, you should be aware that your sport of choice might have great influence on the environment.

Some sports are resource-hungry. Golf. as you may know, eats up not only large areas of countryside, but also tons of water. Besides, all sorts of chemicals and huge amounts of energy are used to keep its courses (球场) in good condition. This causes major environmental effects. For example, in the dry regions of Portugal and Spain, golf is often held responsible for serious water shortage in some local areas.

There are many environment-friendly sports, Power walking is one of them that you could take up today. You don't need any special equipment except a good pair of shoes; and you don’t have to worry about resources and your purse. Simple and free, power walking can also keep you fit. If you walk regularly, it will be good for your heart and bones. Experts say that 20 minutes of power walking daily can make you feel less anxious, sleep well and have better weight control.

Whatever sport you take up, you can make it greener by using environment-friendly equipment and buying products made from recycled materials. But the final goal should be “green gyms”. They are better replacements (代替物) for traditional health clubs and modern sports centers. Members of green gyms play sports outdoors, in the countryside or other open spaces. There is no special requirement for you to start your membership. And best of all, it’s free.

We human like to conquer. For the same reason that soccer players want to hold the World Cup trophy(奖杯) and tennis players crave a Grand Slam win, mountaineers dream of reaching the highest peak on the planet - Mount

“Everybody wants to stand on top of the world,” Mirza Ali from Pakistan who had just “conquered” Mount Qomolangma, told the Los Angeles times.

However, this desire to conquer has become so strong that we have begun to travel in the wrong direction.

During the climbing season in 2019- from March to May at least 11 climbers died in the Himalayas, making it one of the worst seasons on record And the fact that/many of the climbers were inexperienced is one of the major factors (因素) contributing to the tragedy/according to USA Today.

“They don't train very hard. They underestimate(低估) [Qomolangma],” Jangbu Sherpa, who has been working as a guide on Mount Qomolangma since 2006,told NBC News. “There are lots of climbers who just want to check the box so that they can say they've been to the top of the world.”

This ignorant attitude of climbers- also leads to other problems - apart from putting their own lives at risk, of course. According to HuffPost, the mountain's cleaning group collected 12 tons of trash - including food wrappers(包装袋), and oxygen tanks - left behind this climbing season.

Perhaps what we should do now is restore meaning to the activity itself - real meaning.

“When I did make it to the summit, what I realized is that standing on top of a mountain doesn't change you and doesn't change the world,” Alison Levine, who reached the peak of Mount Qomolangma in 2010, told the NPR. “It's really about the journey. The journey is the most important thing on any mountain."
