1 . In the spring and summer months, thunderstorms are common.     1     In thunderstorms, lightning can strike people and buildings and is very dangerous.

It was reported that a man was struck by lightning when he was making a phone call under a tree. He died at once. You may not know it, but nearly 1,800 thunderstorms are happening at any moment around the world.     2     So what should you do during a lightning storm? Scientists say that a person’s chances of   being struck by lightning are 1 in 600,000.     3    

If you are indoors during a thunderstorm:

*Stay away from anything that is metal because lightning can come into the house through it.

*Don’t stand near the windows.

*Don’t take a shower or bath. Lightning can travel through water.

* Never use the phone.       4    

If you are caught in a thunderstorm outdoors:

*     5     If there’s no building around, try to find a low place to stay in.

*Do not go under a tree because the lightning could hit the tree and travel through the tree to hit you.

* Never use a cell phone.

There comes a time when the old must give way to the new. Finding and     1     (keep) the right balance between progress and the protection of cultural sites can be     2     big challenge.

We all read success stories about farmers in magazines and even TV shows, but the people in these stories are real people with real families. And quite often, people with a real love for what they’re doing. People that appreciate the people who purchase things from their farm. People with a real commitment to making their visitors feel like home.    5    , and we should support these families around the globe. Visiting a farm is one of the best ways to do this.

5 . Molai grew up in a tiny village in India. The village was near some wetlands (湿地) which became his second_________. He learned the value and beauty of _________ there from a very young age.

7 . Should We Create More National Parks

Don't you find it worrying that more and more species of animals are in real danger of becoming national parks extinct?     1    And I think the best way to do this is for governments to create more national parks.

    2    If this environment is destroyed-for example, when farmers clear a forest for new fields, or trees are cut down for making money, many animals are unable to survive, and more species are likely to become extinct.

In addition, national parks protect animals from the danger of being hunted. A major reason why many species are endangered is that the animals are killed by hunters. They hunt animals to make money.    3    

On the other hand, some people fight against the creation of national parks because they consider it wrong to interfere with nature. They believe that wild animals are happier living in their natural environment.    4    They also point out that a few species are more likely to produce young animals in the wild than in national parks.

All in all, these disadvantages are far less important than the benefits of national parks, because these parks allow animals to live in a safe environment.     5    

10 . Angela never liked seeing plastic waste washed up on the shore near her home. She had been_______ to call on her community to clean it up, to change the _______, so she tried to set up an organization called Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea. Her_______ proved quite a success.
