World Environment Day (WED) is held on June 5th every year. It isn’t a public holiday, but it is    1     environmental awareness day, run by the United Nations. The aim of the Day is    2    (raise) awareness of the environment and specific environmental issues.

World Environment Day     3     (found) in 1972 but first held in 1974,     4    shows the concern about the environment. More than 150 countries take part in WED, and the day focuses     5     environmental concerns ranging from pollution to     6     (globe) warming and sustainable food production to protection of wildlife.

Each year a country or nation hosts WED    8     (annual). This year the theme is “Time for Nature ”. WED has had     9     (it) own song since 2013.

WED can be celebrated in many ways, such as concerts, parades, and tree planting. Posters for the day tend to be created wonderfully     10     (use) natural environmental colors.

Traditionally, live-streamers (主播) sell delicious snacks or local goodies.    1     a recent live-stream event in Tibet autonomous region did something different. Waste plastic bottles, often     2     (regard) as a great damage to the local environment, were sold for 0.5 yuan each, with the    3     (intend) of raising people’s awareness of Tibet’s pollution issue.

In 2019, about 40 million    4    (tourist) visited Tibet, which in consequence left   about 360 million plastic bottles abandoned in branches, on cliffs and in rivers. The white pollution is     5     serious threat to the local ecosystem and the local animals, such as   yaks.

Over the past few years, more than 5,000 volunteers    6     (participate) in the   anti-white pollution campaign. They carry out over 2,000 clean-ups to collect 200, 000 bottles left by tourists each year. Then the bottles were sorted by color and shipped inland to make raw materials.    7     (rough), each bottle costs about 0.5 yuan.
