1 . How To Spend The Holidays Productively?

To get the most out of your holidays, you can make a calendar of the things you need to do and schedule in time for a mixture of fun activities and productive tasks.

Create a calendar of everything you want to do over the holidays. If you want to keep yourself on a regular schedule over your holiday break, making a calendar can help you stay organized.     1     Then, work everything else around those events.

Spend time learning or improving a skill, a craft, or a hobby. If you have a lot of free time over the holidays, try using that time to learn something new.    2     Or you might try learning to play a new song if you play the guitar. You can also try something totally new, like cross-stitching, building a model car, or brewing beer.

3     The hustle (忙碌) of the holidays can sometimes be stressful, and there are usually a lot of tasty treats to tempt you into eating unhealthily.Luckily, you can help counteract both of these things by spending about 30 minutes a day exercising. For instance, you might go for a jog on a track, try some light aerobic exercise, or do weight training.

Volunteer to help out in your community.     4     Most communities have a year-round need for volunteers, although you may find that there are more opportunities around the holiday season, when many organizations run extra clothing and food drives.

Create a plan for the year ahead. As the year draws to a close, take a little time to think about your year ahead.     5

A.Exercise each day to stay healthy and relieve stress.
B.Start by filling in the most important things you need to do.
C.Set aside time for any work or schoolwork you need to get done.
D.You might practice a new drawing technique if you love art, for instance.
E.Look online or reach out to nonprofits in your area to find out how you can help.
F.Spend your holiday break building contacts by looking up networking events near you.
G.By setting clear, achievable goals to accomplish, you’ll stay focused throughout the year.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,主要讲的是守时的人和不守时的人的不同的表现。
2 . 阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。

A punctual person is in the habit of doing things at proper time in a     1     (plan) way and is always keeping his appointment. He knows     2     if he wants to succeed in his work and society he must observe regular or appointed time. The     3     (punctual) man, on the contrary, seldom does what he has to do at the set time. If he has made an appointment with someone, he never cares about the appointed time and is     4     (like) to be late for half an hour.

Unpunctuality is very harmful. Friends sometimes grow cold to wards each other, or even become     5     (enemy), because one of them has been remiss in keeping     6     (appoint). Imagine how it would be if those who are     7     (trust) with important tasks failed to be at their proper place at the appointed time. A man who is known to be habitually unpunctual is never trusted by his friends, his     8     (classmate) or colleagues.

There is a proverb which says, “There is a time     9     everything.” This is true. In fact time is life     10     (it), and the man who really has a great deal to do is very careful of his time and is no doubt fond of punctuality.

4 . Making the Most of the Body Clock

Want to know the best time to do your homework and study for your exams? Then just make the most of your body clock, and you can work more efficiently (效率高地) and more happily.     1

Morning

It is reported that in the morning your body can take fatty foods more easily, so don’t worry too much about having a big breakfast.     2     So if you need to go to the doctor’s for an injection (注射), this is the best time to go!

Have you ever got the idea that the best time for the brain to work well is between 10:00 am and noon? Therefore, that’s the time when you should be listening to your teachers in full attention.

Lunch-time

Between 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm is the most suitable time for eating. The body clock tells your body to help you digest (消化) your food at this time, so you have less chance of suffering from stomachache.

Early Afternoon

3     There is a slowdown in the speed your brain works, so it’s not the best time to solve difficult maths problems.

Late Afternoon

After three o’clock, the body clock starts to tell your body to work again.     4     So why not try to start and finish your homework during this time period?

Late Evening

Between 8:00 pm and 10:00 pm is the time people are most likely to feel lonely.     5     Another problem students have at night time is difficulty in sleeping. If you want a good night’s sleep, just take a warm bath and don’t do any exercise before you sleep.

5 . For many high school students, it seems that there is never enough time. There are several steps you can take to organize your time better.

Make a to-do list every day. It makes it easy to plan any activities or meetings you may have in addition to homework. Be sure to set priorities (优先事项).    1

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章介绍了一个专为有写作需求的人打造的一个提高写作效率的咖啡店。

7 . “The Manuscript Writing Cafe only allows in people who have a writing deadline to face!” owner Takuya Kawai tweeted. “It’s in order to maintain a level of focus and tense atmosphere at the cafe! Thank you for your understanding.”

The cafe, which only opened a few days ago, charges customers by time used, and is equipped with USB ports, computer stands, and free Wi-Fi. Struggling writers can also bring their own food and drinks, or have it delivered there since coffee and water are the only things that they can get, but it’s pretty strict when it comes to the actual writing.

When entering the cafe, customers must write down at the reception desk(前台) how many words they plan to write and by what time they plan to finish. Every hour, a member of the staff will come by to check on their progress and apply a predetermined pressure level to help move things along.

For example, choosing the “S” level will have the cafe staff pushing you to get the work done more often, while the “M” level includes a more mild way.

However, the craziest rule of the Manuscript Writing Cafe is that writers are not allowed to end their work until reaching their goal or until the place closes down for the day, whichever comes first. It’s not clear how the cafe carries out this rule, but it is meant to keep customers from announcing high targets that they won’t be able to meet.

While some found it interesting, others said that it was too much pressure. “If it were me, I would no longer be able to leave the store and would end up having to live there,” one person said.

1. Which word can best describe the Cafe?

B.Jenny, whose job is to writing advertising materials.
C.Peter, who interprets messages from one language to another.
D.Mary, who is used to writing her novels without pressure.
3. Why does the author mention the “S” and the “M” levels?
A.To present a fact.B.To make a comparison.
C.To identify a concept.D.To explain a rule.
4. What can we infer from the passage?
A.Many writers have the problem of finishing writing in time.
B.Writers cannot leave the cafe unless they finish writing.
C.The rules may be useful for effective writing.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章介绍了paper planner (纸张规划簿),它可以给作者带来快乐与平静,表达了作者对它的喜爱。

10 . Calendars are for managing your time. They work overtime to keep the messiness of human life confined into neat little grids, squeezing our lives into seconds, minutes and hours. I appreciate a calendar’s determined efforts to manage time.     1     For the past several years, I’ve kept a planner with me at all times. The real magic in planners, to me, comes in the blank space where I reflect on the past and imagine the future. Cracking open a fresh week’s layout on a Monday morning and seeing the empty pages expand like a canvas waiting to be filled, the tone of the week yet to be set, the possibilities endless.

You start by creating a wish list for your ideal life. The idea is to be as specific as possible. You then pick the one goal that would have the biggest positive impact. You break that goal down into smaller tasks, and then prioritize them.     2     This method turns a general idea in your head into something that you can actually accomplish. From there, you can reflect every month on how you spent your time, and whether what you did actually is consistent with the goals you set.

3     It leaves no digital footprint, but it does leave a paper trail that you can look back on for years to come. It doesn’t buzz impatiently when you don’t look at it, and it will not be exported to Outlook. It requires you to sit in quiet conversation with yourself, reflecting on your past and visualizing your future. It forces me to answer hard truths, like what do I really want out of life and am I spending my days in line with who I want to be.     4

Planning helps me ensure that I’m not a passenger at the mercy of my calendar, but rather driving toward a destination that I choose.     5     And some really nice pens.

A.Then, add those tasks to the calendar.
B.There’s no pressure to make it perfect.
C.But planners are for dreaming without limits.
D.It’s easy to appreciate calendars for their usefulness.
E.Using a paper planner brings me both joy and a sense of calm.
F.It’s an important ritual (仪式) that deserves weight and ceremony.
G.After all, our lives are the sum of how we spend our time and what we pay attention to.
