2 . When he was fourteen, his ambition was to run a pub, just like his dad.     1     With a chain of restaurants, a number of popular television series and best-selling cookery books, Jamie Oliver is a well-known name in every UK household. I'm a huge “Jamie fan”. I admire his passion for improving the food we eat and helping people change their lives.

    2     He took fifteen unemployed young people, with no previous experience of cooking, and trained them to be top-class chefs (厨师) in his restaurant, also called Fifteen. I remember one trainee, Lloyd Hayes. He left school with no qualifications and started getting into crime.     3     I think it's this kind of success story that makes Jamie and his projects so special.

Another special project is Jamie's Ministry of Food which he started in 2008. There are two aims: firstly, to teach people how to cook healthy, affordable food instead of eating fast food; secondly, to set up the Pass It On scheme: encouraging each person to pass on a recipe they learned to four other people.     4     Thousands of people have changed their cooking habits as a result — and I'm one of them. I've decided I'm not going to eat fast food anymore.

It's not only adults, but children, too. Jamie's School Dinners, one of Jamie's best-known projects, tried to improve food in schools and encourage children to eat well. It was difficult to convince some of the children, but in the end, many schools improved their menus.     5    

So, what's Jamie going to do next? Well, whatever it is, one thing is for sure, I'm not going to miss it!

China’s Chang’e-5 probe( 探 测 器 ) decelerated and entered the lunar orbit on Saturday,     2    completed a vital step on its way to collect and return moon samples, the China National Space Administration (CNSA)     3    (announce).

After flying about 112 hours from Earth,     4     engine on the probe ignited (点火) when it was 400 km away from the surface     5     the moon at 8:58 p.m. and shut down after about 17 minutes, the CNSA said.

The probe performed the braking without incident and entered the lunar orbit     6    (successful ) according to the real-time monitoring data.

Chang’e-5 , which     7     (make) up of an orbiter, a lander, an ascender(上升器 ), and a returner, has carried out two orbital     8    (correction) during the Earth-Moon transfer, achieving its     9     (expect) goals.

Afterward, it will adjust the altitude and inclination (倾斜度) of its orbit around the moon. When the time is appropriate, it will land softly on the near side of the moon     10    (collect ) and return samples from the moon as planned.

6 . How to change the world

There are so many things you can do at home or in your community to make the world a better place. Even the smallest things can lead to bigger changes, so don' t be afraid to get out there and start helping.     1    No matter where you are or whom you meet, give them a warm smile when you’re around them. When you smile, you make the other person feel good and encourage them to smile too.

You’ve probably felt warm when someone says something nice about you, so why not return the favor? Say something that shows your appreciation for how they handle themselves emotionally or treat other people. Make sure you act sincerely when you give your praise so you come across as a truthful person.    2    

It can be really easy to get jealous (妒忌的) of other people when they succeed, but it’s a lot more rewarding to share their excitement. Avoid comparing yourself to other people and thinking of ways you can be better than them.     3    

Even though being kind to someone doesn’t seem like you’re making a big change, your kindness will continue to spread through them. Real kindness involves being friendly and considerate no matter the circumstances.     4    For example, if you see someone struggling to carry groceries , you can offer to help them to their vehicle.

When people litter, the rubbish ends up in the environment and damages the natural wildlife .     5    You may end up picking rubbish up from a beach, cleaning up around highways , or collecting waste from public parks.

8 . On a sunny afternoon, Andreas Fath climbed out of a river in Paducah. A small crowd was on hand to witness his setting a new world record. This man had just finished swimming the entire length of the Tennessee River—1,049 kilometers. And he did it in just 34 days!

As a chemist from Hochshule Furtwangen University, the 52-year-old man had taken on this swim for science. His primary goal was not to get his name into Guinness World Records. What really drove this swim was a desire to make people aware of the seriousness of water pollution.

Fath’s crew included his family. Martin Knoll, who helped organize Fath’s swim, also took par t. Knoll is an environmental scientist at the University of the South. He describes this swim as a vehicle for getting people interested in water quality and how we pollute water without realizing it.

It took Fath 34 days to swim the river’s length. Along the way, his crew took measurements of the water’s temperature and pH. They also recorded weather and the speed of the river’s currents (涌流). As for the Tennessee River, they collected daily water samples. A small plastic device attached to one leg of Fath’s wet suit sampled the chemical pollutants (污染物) through which he swam. Finally, Fath’s goal is to use such data to know what on earth results in water pollution. Then he wants to find ways to keep those chemicals out of the water.

Back in Germany, Fath and his students have finished examining their data. They plan to publish their findings soon. Identifying materials that hide in the river isn’t only important for the animals that live there. “It’s also a way to protect human health,” says Fath.

9 . Bill worked as a fireman for 17 years. He’s been proud of his bravery in risking his life to_________others. One emergency call_________him to poisonous chemicals, which later led to repeated strokes. Just at 37, the man, who had become accustomed to having the_________to save lives, now wasn’t able to button his own shirt or tie his own shoes.

Bill’s wife Daisy_________what would happen to Bill, and she suggested they add a_________to the family. So_________Coco. Bill was rushed to the hospital—Coco had saved the day. And it wasn’t the__________time. When Coco would find Bill__________, he would call for help with his bark of warning.

“He’s always there watching me, helping me,__________I’m okay,” says Bill. “I’ve__________saved others, and now this lovely dog saves me, and that has to mean something. That has to mean I’m worth something after all.”

10 . The COVID-19 epidemic(新冠疫情)is sill spreading rapidly throughout the world. Luckily, it is under control in China with the efforts of our government and all the people. However, we should still be careful in our daily life. There’re some rules for us to follow.

1. Get vaccinated (打疫苗)

Since there’s still no special medicine to cure(治愈) COVID-19,     1    The government is providing available vaccine(疫苗)for everyone in our country. If you’re over 18 years old and in good health, you can get vaccinated near your community.     2    

2. Wear masks(口罩)

People have been used to wearing masks since the epidemic broke out. It is summer now, maybe wearing masks in hot weather makes you feel uncomfortable. However,     3    

So whenever you go out, don’t forget to put on your mask. You may look cooler with a mask on!

3. Wash your hands

    4     Especially when you get home from school or work, or return from any other public places, the first thing you should do is to turn on the tap(水龙头), pick up the soap and wash your hands completely.

4. Keep safe social distance(距离)

You’d better not go to crowded places. The summer vacation is beginning. If you have to go to the stores, movies, parties, supermarkets, etc, besides wearing masks, remember to keep social distance.     5
