Well, many of us might not be watching regular TV, but instead we’re relaxing ourselves from streaming services and mobile devices (设备). In February 2023, Insider Intelligence foretold that in the US in 2023, for the first time ever, people will spend more time watching digital video than traditional TV. So how did we get here?

It was the Scotsman John Logie Baird who built the first of all televisions in 1925. Progress was quietly being made. Just after World War II, around 8,000 homes in the US had a TV. By 1960, this number had risen to more than 45 million - and the television had overtaken the radio as the device to gather around. TV watching became part of the family habit. And when choice was limited in its early days, millions of people watched the same shows together - something we might now call “event television ” Cable (电缆) and digital TV, with hundreds of programs, began to change that, and event television is now hard to find.

While the popularity of streaming and short online videos comes recently, perhaps the move away from shared TV began when television sets became cheaper and families could afford to buy an extra one for the bedroom or the kitchen. There was no more fighting about what to watch - but also less watching together. Now, with younger generations used to immediate access to content, television as we knew it shows little sign of making a return.

Will it die? No, but it will certainly change. Experts say TV has a future with sports and news. But scripted (有剧本的) shows like talk shows and TV series will be seen more on streaming services, and less on TV.

Mars has seasons like Earth, but the seasons there are twice as long as the seasons on Earth. Mars also has an atmosphere, but it is very thin and made up mostly of carbon dioxide. Because of its thin atmosphere and greater distance from the Sun, Mars is much colder than Earth. However, Mars does have weather, with clouds and winds. The poles on Mars are a lot like Antarctica, capped by ice, but much of Mars’s ice is made from carbon dioxide, not water.

Many scientists believe that studying Mars can help us answer some of the key questions about our planet Earth, or even the universe. But missions to Mars have never been easy. Facing great challenges, many countries will still continue their explorations. Launching the first Mars probe (探测器) from Wenchang around 2020 is China’s first step to explore the “Red Planet”

The Chinese Mars probe is made up of three parts: the orbiter, the lander, and the rover. Entering the Earth-Mars transfer orbit, the Mars probe separates from the launch vehicle. Then the space-to-ground communications link is created. Controllers on Earth guide it into the orbit around Mars. After collecting detailed information about the landing area, the probe is ready for the landing. The orbiter and the lander separate. The orbiter stays in the orbit for at least a year to photograph key areas and monitor the planet’s environment, while the lander heads down to the surface of Mars.

Nine kilometres above the planet, a large parachute(降落伞) opens to slow the landing craft as it falls. After removing the parachute, the lander chooses a safe place to land, where the Martian rover can start operations, collecting and transmitting data back to Earth. After receiving its orders from Earth, the rover leaves the landing point and begins to explore the surface of Mars.

8 . Kayzen Hunter, an eight-year-old second-grader, has breakfast at the local Waffle House with his family every weekend. For about a year, they have requested to sit in the section of their favorite waiter, Devonte Gardner.

“He’s the nicest person ever,” said Kayzen. He gets a high-five from Gardner when they walk into the door, and the two joke around a lot. Kayzen is always impressed when Gardner remembers his order, which is the same every weekend.

A few months ago, Kayzen learned a little more information about Gardner’s life.“Devonte said he wondered if anyone might know where he could buy a cheap car- he’d been having a hard time saving for one,”Kayzen said. He also learned that Gardner had been walking several miles a day to and from work and was living in a small hotel room with his wife and two daughters. About eight months earlier, they had to move out of an apartment that was badly damaged by mice.

On February 18, 2023, with mom’s help, Kayzen set up a GoFundMe page, with the goal of raising $5,000 toward new wheels for Gardner. When a local news station found out, donations began to pour in.and the fund quickly soared to more than $30,000-enough for a car and to pay for an apartment for Gardner’s family for the next year.

Gardner said he was shocked when he learned what his young customer had done. But many of Gardner’s other customers were not as amazed. Instead, they were quick to jump in and help.“This guy is ALWAYS in a good mood and a hard worker!” one man commented. He donated $25.“I’ve experienced what Devonte is experiencing and I love it that he continues to spread joy despite his struggles,” added a woman who donated $20.“This is the definition of community.” one person wrote on the GoFundMe page.
