Long long ago, there was a little prince who was used to having everything he wanted. He was so badly behaved that he wouldn’t let anybody have a new toy if he didn’t have it first. If any child in the land wanted a new toy, they had to buy two and give one to him. Therefore, the little prince had no friends except for his toys.
One day a magic toymaker, who invented the most wonderful toys, came to the land. The little prince liked his toys so much that he invited him to spend an entire year in the palace, promising him great wealth if he made him a new toy every day. The toymaker set just one condition: “My toys are very special and need an owner who will play with them” he said. “Will you be able to devote a little time to each one every day?” “Of course, I will” the little prince replied impatiently.
From then on, every morning the little prince received a new toy. Every day the toymaker delivered a toy better than the previous ones. The little prince appeared very happy.
But the toy collection kept growing and, after a few weeks there were simply too many toys to play with all of them every day. So, one day the little prince put a few toys to one side, hoping that the toymaker wouldn’t notice. However, when it was night time and he was ready to go to bed. The toys that had been put away lined up in front of him and, one by one, demanded their daily playtime. The little prince couldn’t get to sleep until well past midnight because he had to play with every single toy.
Next day, tired after all his efforts, the prince slept very late. In the little time left of the day, he had to get to know a new toy and then play with all the others too. Once again, he finished very late and was so tired he could hardly stop yawning (打哈欠).

7 . Teens shifting their focus from parents to peers is normal. The self-protective urge to pull away at this stage of parenting can be strong. After all, they don’t seem to need me or want me around, right?
Stand back and remember that this is not personal.
Children are trying to figure out what their relationship with their parents as an adult is going to look like.
Be a lighthouse.
Parents should reach an ideal balance —— “lighthouse parenting”. The adolescent years are a unique opportunity to support and influence our kids, if we can see through their apparent lack of interest in us and recognize how important we really are. As they’re growing, adolescents have a big job to try to answer this fundamental question, “Who am I?”
Remember that the lame duck experience will be temporary.
Interdependence often looks like once again living under one roof. So parents shouldn’t start counting down the days to that perfectly clean home just yet. Beneath teenagers’ too-cool-for-this exterior, there are soft spots that occasionally show themselves.
A.Part of parent’s job is to wait patiently and non-judgmentally for them to appear. |
B.And part of the answer is: ‘I am someone distinct and separate from my parents.’ |
C.Normal and even desirable as this stage is, it can be surprisingly hurtful for parents. |
D.But the transition for parents from all-important to more of a barrier is often overlooked. |
E.You should be a stable force for your children to measure themselves against and always return to. |
F.But we shouldn’t take that outward expression of their struggle toward independence as evidence that we’re no longer needed. |
G.But just as any parent at this stage may feel powerless, maybe this is a time to be more hands-on, just in a different way. |
8 . Scientists at the University of Washington (UW) have come up with an unusual way to help farmers get information about the plants in their fields.
Farmers already use drones (无人机) to collect information about their crops. But they can only fly for 10 to 20 minutes, and can only travel for a few miles. Last year, the team at UW showed off “RoboFly”, a tiny robot that weighed as much as a toothpick and could fly. But it can’t fly far at all and it needs a laser (激光) for power. So the scientists began to think about things that already knew how to fly, which led them to the bumblebees (大黄蜂) that fly all day. Compared to many flying insects, bumblebees are so large and strong as to fly carrying almost as much as their own weight.
The UW scientists created a special device with sensors, a small battery, and a way of storing tiny amounts of information. This “backpack” weighs about as much as seven grains of dry rice.
To track the bee, the scientists send radio signals from several spots along the edges of the field where the bee is. The tiny computer on the bee’s back uses the strength of the signals to figure out where it is. The backpack records information about the temperature and light. When the bee return s home at the end of the day, a device can wirelessly download the information the bee has collected. Another device can wirelessly recharge the backpack’s battery.
In the UW experiment, the scientists cooled the bumblebees down so that they stopped moving, and then glued the backpacks onto the bees. But it would be difficult for farmers to do the same thing for hundreds of bumblebees. Besides, bumblebees don’t live long — about a month. Farmers would need to be careful as the bees got older, otherwise the trackers could die while they are out in the field, leaving the electronic litter behind.

9 . One of the reasons why so many people listen to music during exercise is that it has a number of benefits. The research around the positive influences of music during exercise was reviewed in a paper in the February 2020 issue of Psychological Bulletin.
Probably the biggest influence of music on exercise, based on these findings, is that listening to music during exercise can make you feel better about what you have done. Experiments find that people feel more positive about the exercise when they have listened to music than when they have not. The impact of music didn’t depend on the intensity of the exercise, and the effect appeared for both trained and untrained athletes.
Music also seems to reduce people’s feeling of how much they are exerting themselves. That is, at the same level of intensity of activity, listening to music can make you feel like you are exerting less effort than you would feel without music. Some studies have also shown that when athletes are free to set their own exertion level, they are willing to exercise more intensely with music than without. For some people (particularly when they are early in their training), music helps them focus on the music rather than on pain.
Music also appears to have a small effect on performance overall. Athletes perform better both during exercise and while engaging in their sport when there is music. In the studies analyzed, fast music, with a tempo greater than 120 beats-per-minute, was more effective than slow music. Interestingly, it doesn’t seem to matter whether the athlete chooses the music or whether it is chosen by someone else. So, the playlists selected by the teachers of an exercise class you’re taking may work even if you don’t love all of the songs.
The one place where music doesn’t seem to have much of an impact is on physiological functioning. The heart rate of an athlete is not consistently affected by music.

B.Providing entertainment. |
C.Reducing the effort of training. |
D.Feeling better about the workout. |
A.Try hard. | B.Break down. | C.Growing up. | D.Come back. |
A.Soft music. | B.Calm music. | C.Gentle music. | D.Rapid-paced music. |
