3 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写一段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

One morning last December, Bill McDonald read in the paper that a local man, Joe Day, was sick with lung cancer. That meant Day couldn’t assemble(组装) the magnificently lit, handcrafted Christmas displays that had made his house in Versailles, Indiana, a yearly holiday site for 95,000 people.

It wouldn’t be Christmas without Day’s lights, thought McDonald. Somebody had to come to his aid, he decided.

Day had made his own quick decision 33 Christmases ago when he came home one afternoon from his job as an electrician and found his five-year-old grandson, Nicholas, waiting. “What do you want to do today?” Day asked.

“Let’s build a reindeer(驯鹿),” Nicholas said. They fashioned one using wood from a fallen tree, then set it out on the lawn and lit up its cherry-red nose for the holidays.

Each year, Day added to his handiwork, placing reindeer on a track above his roof and winding lights as if they were electric vines(藤) around his windows and doors. Finally, thousands of lights, figures, and models filled his yard.

Then came December 2019. Day’s cancer, diagnosed in March, had spread to his liver. After 19 rounds of chemotherapy(化疗) and 43 radiation treatments, he was too tired and depressed to celebrate Christmas until McDonald called.

注意:
1.续写词数应为80左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
“You don’t know me, but I want to help get your lights up,” McDonald said.

Ali and his younger sister, Zahra, lived with their parents in a poor neighborhood. Their mother was very sick and their father was struggling to find a job, and they had only a little money with which to buy food, as they had not paid the rent for several months, the landlord was breathing down their necks.

One day, Ali took Zahra’s shoes to a shoe repairman to be fixed, but he lost them on the way home. It wasn’t until he got home that he realized he had lost the shoes. He was afraid that his parents would be angry and disappointed, so he begged his sister to keep it a secret.

Zahra agreed, and the two decided to share Ali’s running shoes. Zahra’s school hours were in the morning, so she would wear them first. After school, she would rush back and give them to Ali. He could then run to his school, which began in the afternoon. Although he ran as fast as he could, Ali often arrived late and was warned by the school.

Ali heard about a long distance race that was held for the boys in the city. When he learned that the third prize was a new pair of shoes, he decided to take part. He ran home excitedly and promised his sister that he would win her the new shoes.

The day of race arrived. Ali had a strong start, but halfway through the race he began to get tired and his legs began to ache. Getting more and more exhausted, he thought only of Zahra and his promise to her. Dreaming of the new shoes he would win for his sister gave him strength and he stayed right behind the two fastest runners, determined to finish third. Suddenly, as the finishing line drew near, another runner collided(碰撞)with Ali from behind and he crashed to the ground.

Ali looked up and saw the other boys running ahead. Refusing to give up. He ran as fast as he could. He dashed across the finishing line and won the fourth prize. Thinking he would let his sister down, Ali couldn’t help crying. Just then, he suddenly heard the announcement from the broadcast that he won the third prize as the runner who knocked Ali down was disqualified for breaking the rule. Holding the shoes close to his chest during the award ceremony. Ali felt happy as he eventually won the shoes for his sister.

10 . The Most Beautiful Train Stations in the World

Tokyo Station Marunouchi Building

The wide-open entrance square on the Marunouchi side of Tokyo’s main train station would look more at home in Amsterdam or Paris. Kingo Tatsuno’s classical European design took over six years to complete, finally opening in 1914. The statin has received several facelifts since the Second World War, most recently in 2012. It’s one of the biggest and busiest train stations in the world.

Beijing West Railway Station

The idea of building this station in the capital of China was put forward as early as 1959 but didn’t come to reality until 1996. It was the largest station in Asia at the time, although Shanghai’s Hongqiao Station has since surpassed it. The station itself has a unique architectural (建筑的) style, with the main body of the building having quite a functional Russian look, but the rooftop is decorated with three amazing Chinese pagodas.

Duoliang Station, Taiwan

This is the smallest station on this lit by a distance. In fact we’re not really choosing Duoliang for architectural reasons. This station is all about location, location, location. Surrounded by hi top greenery on one side and amazing Pacific Ocean scenery on the other, it’s one of the most scenic spots in all of Taiwan. This isn’t even a working station anymore, but the platforms have been adapted into viewing spots, extremely popular with local train spotters.

Stazione Milano Centrale in Milan

Milan’s central train station looks pretty much exactly as you’d imagine it. There are a mix of styles at play here, from Art Nouveau to Art Deco, but the entire building is filled with a classic sense of Roman monumentality. The outer look is guarded by two statues, while its insides are equally impressive, as grand stonewalls curve (弯曲) into the station’s glass ceilings.

1. What do Tokyo Station and Beijing West Railway Station have in common?
A.Both have European features.
B.Both were built in the early 1990s.
C.Both have been rebuilt several times.
D.Both are the largest domestic stations.
2. What do train spotters favor most about Duoliang Station?
A.Its distance.B.Its small size.
C.Its surrounding scenery.D.Its architectural style.
3. What makes Stazione Milano Centrale impressive?
A.Roman buildingsB.Its various styles.
C.Statues on the wallsD.The curving ceilings.
