My dad doesn’t write me letters. And he doesn’t always remember my birthday or wedding anniversary -- or even how old I am sometimes.
But I only need to look around me to be reminded of his love. He restored a 100-year-old rocking chair after I told him how much I wanted one. When I moved into my first apartment, he spent his weekends in a small space replacing pipes. And when I lost a blue stone from a favorite necklace, he worked his magic with common stuff
The four greatest words I know are “Dad will build it”.
I could never forget when I was seven, one day we walked by a toy store window. There in the corner was the most unusual doll house had ever seen. It was shaped like an upturned log. Little oval windows were cut into it decorated with white curtains and framed by tiny balconies.
“Oh, Daddy,” I said, “isn’t it beautiful? Do you think Santa Clause will bring it to me?”
Dad looked at the $100 price tag -- too high a figure in those days. “I think even Santa couldn't afford this house,” he joked, hiking up his belt, as he often does when he’s nervous. “Maybe one day, sweetheart, ”Dad probably hoped I’d forget about the doll house, but I kept talking about it.
On Christmas morning, I awoke early and raced downstairs. In the faint light, I made out some wrapped boxes under the tree-- but none large enough to contain my doll house.
Dad could see my disappointment.

5 . Petrified Forest National Park
Petrified Forest National Park is now mapping self-guided hikes to its more off-the-beaten-path destinations, in part to remind visitors that the parks are theirs to roam. In August, a new field institute will begin offering classes led by ecologists, photographers and other experts. And next year, look for electric vehicle charging stations to appear at the north and south entrances of the park.
Yosemite National Park
Yosemite is all about restoration this year. This month the park’s main corridor is being repaired. The park’s gallery reopened to the public in April after remodeling to allow full accessibility for the disabled. Acadia National Park
Acadia National Park is to begin managing a new campground on Maine’s Schoodic Peninsula this fall. The site will offer almost 100 R.V. and tent sites, as well as new hiking and biking tails connecting to Gouldsboro Village and existing park trails leading to the peninsula’s tip.

6 . When you arrive on campus, you'll face a tough task: to live peacefully with a stranger for the rest of the academic year. To make this task easier, most schools use some type of room-assignment survey.
When considering privacy, think about how you and your roommate will arrange for private time. If your class is canceled, consider going for a cup of coffee. Privacy also relates to giving your roommate space when he or she has had a bad day or just needs time to think.
Two other potentially issues are chores and borrowing. If cleaning chores need to be shared, make a schedule and stick to it. When it comes to borrowing, it's important to set up clear rules.

8 . When Naomi Fisher took her eight-year-old son to the country park in Birmingham where she spent much of her childhood exploring with her friends, he asked why he was not allowed to go off by himself.
“I couldn’t even give a good reason why not. It’s just not done any more, nobody lets their kids do that,” said Fisher, a community architect. “I had some conversations and it seemed my generation had all experienced that kind of play from seven or eight years old and yet it had virtually disappeared.”
Fisher’s experience is not uncommon. A survey published this week reported that children typically are not allowed to play outside on their own until two years older than their parents’ generation were.
Soon after, with the help of her friend, they set up Roam, a first of its kind charity running sessions to help children with safe, unsupervised (无人监督的) play outside. At each session, up to 15 children, all under-12s, are given some ground rules-they must stay in groups of at least three at all times, for instance-before being allowed to roam (玩耍) alone for up to two hours.
Volunteers keep tabs on them and count numbers on a regular basis, but do not interfere. They also run sessions with more supervision for younger children and those with additional needs. “A lot of our families have said they’ve seen that their children’s capabilities are much better than they thought,” said Fisher.
When Roam surveyed parents, it found that although road danger and safety fears were a key reason behind why many did not let their children play alone. “The more important reason was that parents felt their child would stand out and their parenting would be judged,” said Fisher. “My biggest fear at the pilot sessions was that a member of the public might approach the children and say: ‘You’re way too young to be your own.’”

10 . National Museum of China is one of the places I visit the most all year round. Here are some great shows ongoing at the museum. They will last until late March and even longer. So need not to hurry, just take your time.
Gold and Jade in the hall — the exhibition of antiquities in Qing Court from Shenyang Palace Museum
The exhibition until March 21 gathers more than 240 objects from the extensive assemblies of artifacts of Shenyang Palace Museum and National Museum of China. It presents the many aspects of the court life of predecessors of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) when they resided at the Shenyang palace in Shenyang, Liaoning province, and the early period of the dynasty after it was established in Beijing in 1644.
Navigating Thousands miles — the Grand Canal cultural exhibition
The exhibition until March 21 navigates the excavation and development of the Grand Canal, the longest artificial waterway in the world. Paintings, documents, artifacts and models are on show to review how construction of the Grand Canal facilitated technological advancements in water conservancy and transportation management. The waterway helped boost the economy in regions it ran through and cultural communications between North and East China, through which viewers can get a glimpse of the creativity and wisdom of ancient Chinese.
The sound of Harmony — musical instruments in ancient China
Ranging from the Neolithic Jiahu bone flute to the Tang Dynasty (618-907) "Jiu Xiao Huan Pei" guqin (zither), ancient China's various musical instruments continue to resonate with contemporary people. This exhibition until March 30 traces the development of musicology, folk art and culture. It also examines music's roles in state activities, public education and exchanges between ancient China and other civilizations.
The dawn of Chinese Colour — the pottery-making in Gansu
Neolithic and bronze-age pottery painted with a variety of primitive and creative patterns are visually arresting objects to visitors at an artifact exhibition. But where did these mystic patterns come from, what did they mean, and why have they vanished?People may find answers to these questions at this exhibition until May 9. A display of nearly 200 objects reveals the emergence of pottery-making in Gansu province some 8,000 years ago, and celebrates the advanced civilizations that produced the pottery and thrived along the Yellow River.
