Prehistoric Times

Spend a week exploring the time of dinosaurs. Be ready to share your favorite dinosaurs and learn more about what the world was like when these giant reptiles (爬行动物) walked the Earth.

Put on your lab coat and get ready for a week of science! There are so many experiments to do, new things to learn and other scientist campers to meet!

Once upon a time, there lived a group of campers who experienced “A Whole NewWorld”. Because “When You Wish Upon a Star”, you’ll be back at camp “For the First Time in Forever”! “Be Our Guest” as we celebrate your favorite fairy tale characters.

3 . Certain foods are linked to a higher risk of type 2 diabetes (糖尿病). But by making a few wise dietary choices, you might be able to bring down or stabilize your blood sugar.
Porridge
Consistently eating foods that are high in fat, low in fibre and with a high GI [glycaemic index (血糖指数)] can increase your diabetes risk. Oats are a low-fibre, low GI food — meaning they don’t cause sudden rises and drops in blood sugar — and contain healthy fats. Adding milk to your porridge increases the fat content, so choose skimmed (脱脂的) or soya milk.
Blueberries
Most fresh fruits have low GI scores, though levels go up as they ripen. Especially good if you’re hoping to avoid type 2 diabetes are blueberries, grapes and apples. These were associated with a lower risk of developing the condition in a 2023 American study, with blueberries coming out top of the table. Aim for three servings a week of these diabetes-friendly fruits — on your porridge perhaps. Overall, a diet high in fruits and vegetables is a must if you are committed to controlling blood sugar.
Yogurt
But, hang on, yogurt is a high-fat dairy product and to be avoided, right? Not necessarily. It’s high in fat, but a 2023 American study indicates it can lower the risk of type 2 diabetes. Plain yogurt has a low GI score. Choose the unflavoured, unsweetened variety or Greek yogurt over more sugary flavoured or sweetened yogurt.

7 . Some ultra-processed foods increase the risk of developing cancer, heart disease and diabetes, but others are good for you, new research suggests. A major new international study has found that regular consumption of meat products, such as sausages and sugary drinks make it more likely that someone will get those diseases. But bread and cereals actually reduce someone’s risk of them, because they contain fibre despite also being ultra-processed foods (UPF), the same researchers also concluded in findings published in The Lancet.
Similarly, sauces, spreads and condiments are also bad for human health, but not as much as animal products and soft drinks. However, several other major types of UPF previously seen as harmful: sweets and desserts, ready meals, savoury snacks and plant-based alternatives to meat products also got the all-clear. They are “not associated with risk of multi-morbidity (多重病症)”, said the authors.
Experts said the findings showed that regarding all UPF products as bad for health is unwise and unwarranted. Like several other recent research projects, the new study did conclude that UPF harms human health and makes it more likely that someone who consumes a lot of it would suffer a potentially fatal event, such as a heart attack or stroke. However, it also gives a more detailed picture of exactly which UPF products do and do not heighten that risk.
The authors said, “We found that higher consumption of UPF was associated with a higher risk of multi-morbidity of cancer and cardio-metabolic diseases.” People keen to lower their risk should replace some but not all UPF in their diet with “similar but less processed foods for the prevention of cancer and cardio-metabolic multi-morbidity” or follow the Mediterranean diet. Multi-morbidity is when someone has at least two life-shortening diseases at the same time, such as cancer and heart disease.
Heinz Freisling, a co-author of the paper and expert at the World Health Organization said, “Our study emphasises that it is not necessary to completely avoid ultra-processed foods; rather, their consumption should be limited, and preference be given to fresh or minimally processed foods.”

8 . Yin Ruins Museum is made up of buildings that stand in a park-like setting in Anyang, Henan Province. The park marks the location of Yin Xu, the ancient capital of the Shang Dynasty. The museum’s buildings have been given the appearance of ancient structures. That makes them fit in tastefully with the surrounding landscape and provides a suitable setting for the cultural relies it displays. These were all unearthed through archaeological digs at the site itself as far back as the 1920s.
Exploration is still ongoing and new archaeological treasures are periodically discovered. The buried relics of Yin Xu form the biggest archaeological site in all of China. Yin Xu once covered an area of about 24 square kilometers and was divided into several different districts, including a palace district, a civil residence district, a workshop district and a tomb district.
Many of the cultural relics that were unearthed during archaeological digs such as bronzes, carved jade objects, pottery, lacquerware and oracle bones are now on display at the museum. A four-legged bronze cauldron(大锅)that was discovered at the site in 1939 is perhaps the single most famous relic that was unearthed from Yin Xu. It was at first known as the Simuwu Ding but is now known as the Houmuwu Ding. It is now on display at the National Museum of China in Beijing but you can see a replica(复制品)of it at Yin Ruins Museum.
Most people that have heard of Yin Xu across the world, however, connect the site with the discovery of the oracle bones with mysterious ancient inscriptions on them. It is believed that farmers in the area had periodically discovered such bones as far back as the Han Dynasty.

The Canadian
The trip from Toronto to Vancouver is sleepy 83 hours long — but considering you’ll be winding through snow-capped Rocky Mountains and Canadian Shield forests, the pace suits anyone looking for relaxation, rest and peaceful views. Huge glass windows make the most of the scenery as the train travels across 4,466 km of Canada’s diverse landscape.
The Blue Train
The train spans 1,600 km of track linking Pretoria with Cape Town. More like a hotel on rails than a train, there are carriages where passengers can rest in comfort and have full-sized baths. The journey takes 27 hours from start to finish and crosses some of the most diverse and picturesque scenery on the African continent. Don’t expect to feel the rush of wind through your hair though, as its average speed is just 57 km/h.
The Indian Pacific
Departing from Sydney, it takes about 70 hours for the Indian Pacific to cross the Australian continent on its way to Perth. Stopping at the mining town of Broken Hill, Adelaide, and Kalgoorlie you’ll cover 4,352 km at an average speed of 85 km/h. At that rate, you’ll catch the full glory of the sun setting across the horizon on the longest stretch of straight rail track in the world. Jinghu High Speed Rail
The showcase of China’s modern rail fleet was launched in 2012 and shaves 20 hours off the 1, 303 km trip from Beijing to Shanghai, delivering passengers to their destination in five super-fast hours. It is currently the fastest long-distance passenger train in the world, reaching speeds of 300 km/h.
