I chose to study abroad because I felt that I needed a change in my life and it sounded much    3     (interesting) than working behind a desk in a familiar environment. The life lessons and people skills    4     I acquired while in Italy are what I could have only learned    5     an experience like this, not from sitting in a classroom.

The Romans    6    (be) the nicest people you will ever meet. They were so    7     (help) when I was trying to talk with them and were just so excited and honored that I chose to visit    8     (they) country. I fully experienced the phrase “When in Rome…”and loved how they live everyday to the fullest. 4 . Playing sports is a lot of fun. Getting hurt is not.    1

Wear protective equipment.

The equipment you wear depends on the sport you play. Helmets (头盔) are the most common protective equipment. They protect your head while you’re playing football, baseball, softball, and so on.

Warm up.

2     Doing some stretches (伸展) can get you prepared to hit the field. By warming up, you get yourself ready to play. Practicing a sport helps keep you safe, too.

Know the rules of the games.

Traffic lights help prevent crashes between many cars that run on the road together. This works because drivers know the rules and follow them—at least most of the time.    3     When players know the rules of the game, fewer injuries happen. For example, you know that in soccer you can’t come from behind, crash into a player’s legs, or steal the ball. It’s legal and safer to go after the ball rather than the player.

    4

This is a really important one. If you love sports, you may want to get back in the games, even after an injury. But playing when you’re hurt is a bad idea.    5

Now you know how to prevent sports injuries. If you follow these rules, you can stay safer while you are playing sports.

A.Don’t play when you’re injured.
B.Don’t do too much exercise.
C.It’s the same with sports.
D.It can lead to an even worse injury.
E.It’s not a good idea to just go to the field and start playing.
F.You and the other players know what to expect from each other.
G.Take these steps to prevent injuries so you can stay in the game.

5 . How to deal with your homework

Write it down.     1     Always be sure to write down all the homework so you won’t forget anything.

Create a homework station. Find somewhere comfortable and quiet to do your homework.     2     It will take twice as long to get the homework done. Shut off your cell phone, log off (退出) your computer (unless you need it for your homework) and close the door.

Do homework as early as possible. Don’t leave homework to the last minute.     3     The earlier you start your homework, the sooner you will finish! Do all your homework as early as you can, so you don’t have a pile of ( 一 堆 ) homework the next day.

4     Think about how long it will take you to complete homework for each subject. For example: English-ten minutes, science-ten minutes, math-forty minutes, history-twenty minutes.

Treat yourself. You can easily get tired by sitting through an hour or two of homework without stopping. Once you finish homework for a subject, take a small break (no more than 15 minutes). Either taking a walk or finding something to eat will do. But do not turn on the TV, or you’ll never go back to your study.     5

A.Use your time wisely.
B.Start as soon as you get home.
C.Start with your hardest homework.
D.Do not burn the midnight oil, either.
E.Never do your homework in front of the TV.
F.After short breaks, return to finish the rest of your homework.
G.Keep a homework notebook where you record all your homework.

6 . A teenager needs to have a sense of independence in their life to feel secure (安全的). To some teenagers independence means a lot to them, and I think that some parents don’t allow their teenagers enough independence.

Independence has something to do with freedom. Some kids are not allowed to go anywhere alone, and the only thing their schedule includes is going to school, coming home, going to sleep, and repeating the process the next day. Parents tend to be afraid that their kids can get hurt if they go outside into the world. But if parents control their kids too much, they may never learn to live on their own. The best way for a teenager to learn lesson is through experience. I think it is beneficial for teenagers to have freedom.

Teenagers’ lack of freedom can also stop them from having good friendship at school. Some might say this is a good thing, because it helps them focus more on their school work. I argue that this can only discourage them not to do their school work. Some parents do not allow their children to be around their friends outside the school, thinking that this will get them into trouble. But I don’t think so. Instead, isn’t this a good reason for parents to get their children a cellphone? Cellphones allow teenagers to stay in touch with their parents, and communicate with friends.

Privacy is another issue between parents and their teenagers. Teenagers tend to enjoy relaxation by themselves in their own room. This also gives them a sense of independence. It often annoys teenagers when their parents enter their room when they are not home. I know that my mom always goes in my room when I’m not home, and this has brought me to the point where I have asked many times to get a lock on my door.

1. What is the main idea of the second paragraph?
A.It benefits teenagers to have freedom.B.Some parents allow their kids no freedom.
C.Kids know how to live independently.D.Kids have a dull routine every day
2. In the opinion of the author, ________ .
A.it is unnecessary for a kid to have a cellphone
B.kids should focus on the school work
C.parents should make it easy for kids to communicate with their friends
D.good friendships between kids harm their school work
3. How do teenagers usually feel when their parents enter their rooms in their absence?
A.AngryB.LuckyC.DisappointedD.Calm
4. The author hopes to have her door locked in order to________.
A.keep her father from reading her dairyB.stop thieves from going in
C.protect herself from any harmD.prevent her mother entering her room

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了家庭环境可能会影响人们的身材体型,人们可以通过调整光线,颜色,声音和餐盘尺寸来把家庭环境变成饮食计划的一部分。

10 . Did you know that your weight gain might be less about your willpower and more about how you’ve decorated your home? Factors like the colors of your walls, how you store your food, or whether your bedroom is comfortable enough can all contribute to your eating habits. In short, your house may be making you fat. You can make your environment work for you instead of against you. Here are some ways to turn your home into part of your diet plan.

Open the curtains and turn up the lights. Dark environments are more likely to encourage overeating, for people are often less selfconscious (难为情) when they’re in poorly lit places—and so more likely to eat lots of food. If your home doesn’t have enough window light, get more lamps and flood the place with brightness.

Mind the colors. Research suggests warm colors fuel our appetites. In one study, people who ate meals in a blue room consumed 33 percent less than those in a yellow or red room. Warm colors like yellow make food appear more appetizing, while cold colors make us feel less hungry. So when it’s time to repaint, go blue.

Don’t forget the clock—or the radio. People who eat slowly tend to consume about 70 fewer calories (卡路里) per meal than those who rush through their meals. Begin keeping track of the time, and try to make dinner last at least 30 minutes. And while you’re at it, actually sit down to eat. If you need some help slowing down, turn on relaxing music. It makes you less likely to rush through a meal.

Downsize the dishes. Big serving bowls and plates can easily make us fat. We eat about 22 percent more when using a 12-inch plate instead of a 10inch plate. When we choose a large spoon over a smaller one, total intake (摄入) jumps by 14 percent. And we’ll pour about 30 percent more liquid into a short, wide glass than a tall, skinny glass.

1. The text is especially helpful for those who care about _________.
A.their body shapeB.their home comforts
C.house buyingD.healthy diets
2. A home environment in blue can help people ________.
A.digest food betterB.regain their appetites
C.burn more caloriesD.reduce food intake
3. What are people advised to do at mealtimes?
A.Eat quickly.B.Play fast music.
C.Use smaller spoons.D.Turn down the lights.
4. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Ways of Serving DinnerB.Is Your House Making You Fat?
C.Effects of SelfConsciousnessD.Is Your Home Environment Relaxing?
