文章大意:本文是说明文。在节奏日益加快、科技不断发展的现代社会中,每个人都或多或少地沉迷于社交媒体,甚至渴望社交媒体。本文就如何积极利用社交媒体和打造良好网络形象提出了几点建议。

1 . Social media is so common in our society that almost everyone is connected to some forms of it, whether it is Twitter, Facebook or even Pinterest. We are in a fastpaced, technologicallyevolving society and we are addicted to social media. In fact, we crave (渴望) social media.

1     We share what we’re doing, how amazingly we did on a test and so on. Simply speaking, we love people knowing what we're doing. It has become a place that can define us.

Our social networks can tell a story about us, and if you’re like me, you want to make sure that the story your Twitter or Facebook tells about you is a good story.     2     How does one ensure a positive online reputation? Here are some tips.

1. Keep it clean:     3     Party photos with alcohol are an absolute nono. Would you want to have your boss see these photos? Make sure to post contents that you feel positively reflects you, your creativity and your skills.

2. Don’t trust privacy settings: You have a private Twitter account so you can post anything you want?     4     Privacy settings make it harder to see your full account, but it’s not impossible. You shouldn't rely on privacy settings as a way to protect inappropriate (不适当的) content.

3. Ensure you’re polished: Keep it classy (优等的)!     5     Think about what you want people to think of you and go with it.

Like it or not, your social networks reflect you — make sure you look like the shining star that you truly are.

A.This is not the case.
B.It is always like this.
C.Be sure about what you’re posting.
D.Discover what you want people to think of you.
E.Social media is just a tool to interact with others.
F.We post almost every aspect of our life on social media.
G.One’s online reputation (名声) couldn't be more important.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了 Buy Nothing Day以及它的设立对于我们人类的意义:不要把钱浪费在无用的东西上。

3 . Every festival has its own meaning. Labor Day, for example, celebrates the value of hard work. Thanksgiving is about showing thanks to people around you. And Valentines’ Day is a time when you express love to your loved ones. But somehow it now seems that all festivals we just care about one thing — shopping. And that can be a big problem.

“In a way, over-consumption (过度消费) is the mother of all our environmental problems,” Kalle Lasn once told CNN. Lasn is the organizer of Buy Nothing Day, a day set up in Canada in 1992 to fight against unhealthy spending habits, and has now become an international event. It’s held on the day, which is known as Black Friday — a famous shopping day in the US and Canada.

You can see the irony (讽刺) here.

Even though the idea of Buy Nothing Day was brought up 26 years ago, we seem to need it now more than ever. It’s just as Lasn said, all the different kinds of pollution in our lives today — bad air quality, the reduction of forest area, endangered animal species, and plastic bags found in the ocean — seem to be the same cause: over-consumption.

The latest example is the Singles’ Day shopping craze of Nov 11, which saw a new sales record. But as Nie Li, a campaigner at Greenpeace, told Reuters, “Record-setting over-consumption means record-setting waste.” And it was reported that last year the Singles’ Day packages left more than 160,000 tons of waste, including plastic and cardboard. The Collins Dictionary has also just named “single-use” its Word of the Year, pointing out the problem that there’re too many things we tow out after only using them once.

So, Buy Nothing Day might only be here for one day a year, but it’s not just to remind us to the a break from shopping on that day, but to change our lifestyle completely, focusing on fun “with people we care about” rather than wasting money on useless things.

1. What’s the authors purpose of writing the first paragraph?
A.To express the people’s love for all festivals.
B.To talk about the meaning of the festivals.
C.To appreciate the value of the festivals.
D.To bring out the topic of the passage.
2. Why did Kalle Lasn organize Buy Nothing Day?
A.To help people save money.B.To cut the cost for daily life.
C.To prevent over-consumption.D.To set up a new sales record.
3. What’s Nie Li’s attitude towards the shopping craze?
A.Opposed (反对的).B.Supportive.
C.Unknown.D.Neutral (中立的).
4. What can be a suitable title for the passage?
A.Creating a New LifestyleB.Buy Nothing Day
C.Festivals Around the WorldD.A Change in People’s Life

5 . 阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

Whether you’re communicating in person, over text, or on the phone, being a good listener is an important part of any healthy relationship. “Being a bad listener, or repeatedly misunderstanding what the other person is saying, or appearing uninterested when you don’t mean to be, can break that person’s trust in your relationship,” says marriage counselor Dr. Lisa Marie Bobby. If you’ve wondered whether you could be a better listener, the answer is almost certainly “yes”. Making sure the people in your life feel truly heard is something that you can improve upon.

You appear more interested when you invite the speaker to give explanations, by asking them things that need more than a “yes” or “no” answer. “An open-ended question is an invitation for the other person to say more, and continue going deeper into their train of thought, versus a close-ended question that invites a factual answer,” Bobby explains. This is something you can do to show that you’re really listening.

What you’re transmitting (传递) through your nonverbal (非言语的) communication is as important as what you say. It’s about looking in someone’s eyes, smiling and nodding. Showing with your face that you’re following what someone is saying is really important. This is equally key in virtual conversations on a video chat. Remember that looking into your laptop camera is like making eye contact, while breaking it to look downward makes it appear that you’re doing something else.

Listening doesn’t always require offering solutions (解决办法) — quite the opposite, in fact. “People can be considered as poor listeners when they don’t understand what the conversation is actually about on a high level,” Bobby says. Sometimes, people simply want to talk about an unhappy situation. Maybe they’re really just wanting to vent (发泄), or talk about their day. So don’t try to give suggestions; just listen instead.

文章大意:本文是说明文。文章向读者介绍了一个独特的太阳能音乐厅,包括其地理位置、外形、建造的格局、设计原理等。

10 . A company, called Mario Cucinella Architects, has made the House of Music, a solar-powered ( 太阳能的) building in Pieve di Cento that celebrates the town’s long-standing musical tradition. Designed to represent an orchestra ( 管弦乐队), the building is made up of nine small music rooms that connect to a central open space. The curved oak front not only helps to make sound louder like an instrument’s music box, but also ensures high levels of energy efficiency (效率).

Finished in 2017 after four years of planning and building, the House of Music of Pieve di Cento is located in the former Lamborghini (a famous Italian car company) production area that had been changed into a park. The recently completed building gets an advantage from a cycling path that connects the House of Music to the town center and beyond to an area to the south. There is also a wooden bench running around the building and creating resting places facing the park.

To prevent heat, cold, or noise from passing through the building, Mario Cucinella Architects used a special design for the House of Music. The flat roofs are topped with a series of curved and raised disks (圆盘) that help make unwanted sunlight change its direction and are engineered to bring more natural air into the building. The energy-efficient design was influenced by the architects’ (建筑师的) study of the site.

The nine music rooms open up to a central outdoor space that serves as a meeting area. The architects noted, “The House of Music’s outside lighting makes it a comforting place that encourages people to continue to do musical activities after the earthquake that shook the area in 2012.”

1. What was the purpose of building the House of Music?
A.To praise the town’s musical tradition.B.To remember a famous local musician.
C.To attract people outside the town to visit.D.To tell people about the importance of music.
2. What do we know about the House of Music?
A.It started to be built in 2017.B.It is located in the town center.
C.It is supported by a famous car producer.D.It is connected with other areas by a cycling path.

A.encourage people to keep up their musical activitiesB.warn people of the danger of earthquakes
