文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文,本文主要讲述作者经常搬家,在新的学校不适应,但是由于喜欢踢足球,帮助作者树立了自信。

2 . When I was a kid, my dad was in the Air Force and we moved every few years. It was scaring because that meant getting used to a wholly new community and a wholly new school. It was always a struggle to find where I fit in. Already shy, I didn’t have much self-confidence in my friend-making abilities. I was the girl walking in the halls with her head down. When I spoke, you could hardly hear my soft voice. I was nervous and doubted myself a lot. I was nearly hit.

But what I did have was soccer. Wherever I went, I knew I could fit in with the soccer ball. The soccer team meant a familiar place and immediate friends for me. I could express myself on the field. Playing hard helped to get rid of my nervousness.

There are always things that make you nervous and uncertain. That’s life. Even in my lucky life, I still have those feelings---at the beginning of the new sports season, or making important decisions. I keep a small group of really good friends. Most have been my teammates for years. We have shared a lot together. They have seen the good, the bad and the ugly sides of me, and they still accept me. They have taught me that it’s how you treat others that makes you valuable in life.

Throughout our lives, our self-esteem goes down when we feel like a failure, and it goes up when we feel successful. We all need to explore opportunities where we can be good at something and feel good about ourselves. Physical activity and sport participation is a wonderful way to build up our sense of self-confidence. We get to set goals for ourselves, we feel good about our accomplishments, and we learn that after today’s failure there’s tomorrow’s chance.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了中国正面临阅读危机,并列出了相关阅读数据和阅读危机产生的原因。还介绍了一项名为“引领阅读”的项目的情况。

3 . China is facing a reading crisis. According to Xu Shengguo, head of the Chinese Academy of Press and Publication, the country’s reading rate last year was 78.6 percent while 21.4 percent read nothing at all. Xu said the survey showed last year Chinese people each read only 4.56 books, compared with 12 in France, 11 in South Korea and about 7 in the US. In addition, more than 40 percent of Chinese people read less than one book throughout the year outside textbooks.

Xu added that besides the large population base in China and imbalance in regional economic development, the shortage of public libraries is widespread. Thus, reading parties in the community are in need of greater promotion.

Sponsored by Beijing Municipal Bureau, a training session on reading was held in Beijing on September 19, 2015. It was the first meeting of the “Leading Reader” project, a training series for teachers, officials, college students and bookstore owners on the promotion of nationwide reading. Some 150 college students attended the session.

“If we want to promote the nationwide reading rate, we have to encourage more grassroots to read. Not only should we read more books, but also share books with others, to attract more people to join the team of reading,” Xu said.

Lin Dan, originator of Your Bay Parent-child Picture Book Center, stressed the importance of parents and children reading together, and called on parents to read with their children for 15 minutes every day. “It is significant for the healthy growth of the younger generation if their parents read with them every day. However, parents should not teach their children what to read or how to read. Instead, they should train their children to gain happiness from reading,” Lin said.

1. What might be asked about in the survey?
A.How often do you read a book?B.How do you usually read a book?
C.Why are you interested in reading?D.How many books do you read in a year?
2. Paragraph 2 is mainly about ______.

C.the reason for reading crisisD.the development of reading parties
3. Who is the “Leading Reader” project intended for?

7 . In a time when many middle school kids carry around $600 phones that they take for granted, teaching gratitude can feel like an uphill battle. But despite the challenges you might face in helping kids feel grateful, it can be worthwhile.    1

Encourage your child to say “Thank you” on a regular basis. Offer gentle reminders like, “Your brother let you go first. What should you say to him?” You can also encourage your kids to write “thank you” notes to people who give them gifts or show them kindness.    2     Or your teen might write a “thank you” letter to a coach who has made an impact on their lives.

Once your child remembers to say “thank you” on a regular basis, it can be time to dig a little deeper.    3    And take their understanding of gratitude to a whole new level.

4     This might involve returning a favor, like giving a toy to a friend who is kind. Or it could involve an act of service like doing yard work for a relative. Make it clear that there are many ways to show people that you’re grateful for all they do.

Of course, there will be times when your kids seem to be ungrateful.    5     It’s normal for kids to believe that they deserve something and don’t have to show gratitude at times. So turn these times into teachable moments. Work on new gratitude strategies and keep modeling how to be thankful, and you’ll likely see these moments fade away.

A.This doesn’t mean you’ve failed in teaching, however.
B.Make it a habit to regularly express gratitude in school.
C.Here are a few strategies to help your kids feel more grateful.
D.Developing a sense of gratitude isn’t complex or challenging.
E.There are many things your child can do to show appreciation.
F.Start having conversations about what it means to be thankful.
G.Your child might draw a picture for an aunt who gave them a gift.

8 . We're willing to bet you know at least one kid who loves Peppa Pig. The British TV show has been attracting youthful audiences around the world for almost two decades and has even created a generation of American kids with fake British accents. Well, all those millions of young Peppa fans will soon have their own theme park in the United States that they can visit with their parents. Moving over Disney World, Peppa Pig is headed to Florida.

The new theme park is slated to open in Orlando, Florida in 2022 and will feature rides, attractions, a water play area and live shows all popular with preschool-age children and their families. Kids will have the opportunity to meet Peppa, George, Mummy Pig, Daddy Pig and the rest of the animal group as they explore the adorable world that looks like it's been dropped right out of TV and into central Florida.

Peppa fans will love rides such as Grandad Dog's Pirate Boat Ride, where the little piggies can hop aboard and set sail for Pirate Island, and Peppa Pig's Balloon Ride, where they get to fly high above the park in one of Miss Rabbit's hot air balloons. Other rides feature characters like Grampy Rabbit and Mr. Bull.

The park will also feature two play zones: A splash pad where kids can mimic (模仿) jumping in muddy puddles filled with fountains, slides and interactive water features perfect for hot Florida summers and Pirate Island where everyone in the family can look for buried treasure or build sand castles with Danny Dog. Are you looking for something adults will love too? Check out the classic boardwalk with free arcade games. When it's time for a break, head to the cinema, where kids can watch their favorite episodes of Peppa Pig in a cool dark theatre.

Yearly passes are already available for the new park for $75. The opening day is still to be announced, but we're guessing there are enough Peppa Pig episodes to keep you and the kids occupied until next year.

1. What can we learn about Peppa Pig from paragraph 1?
A.It has a negative effect on kids.B.It enjoys great popularity.
C.It deserves to be adored by kids.D.It appeals to no Americans.

9 . Children as young as 5 years old are less likely to help a person in need when other children are present, according to a new study. “Children at this age take responsibility into consideration when deciding whether to help,” explains psychological scientist and lead researcher Maria Plötner.

Previous research has shown that children are generally very helpful, but few studies specifically looked at whether the presence(在场)of others affects this helping behavior.

To find out, Plötner and colleagues invited 60 5-year-olds to participate(参加)in the study. The children were told that they would be choosing a picture and coloring it in. Some children colored with only the researcher present in the room, while others colored at the same time with two other children.   The participants didn’t know that the other two children were actually part of the experiment and they behaved according to a script(剧本).

Before the coloring started, the researcher noticed a water puddle and she cleaned it with paper towels. She left the remaining paper towels on the floor, just “in case(以防)something needs to be cleaned later.” After about half a minute of coloring time, the researcher “accidentally” knocked over her cup of colored water. She tried to hold the water back with her arms. After about 15 seconds, she looked at the water, and said “Oops” to call the children’s attention.

Of all the children who did get paper towels for the researcher, those who were alone with the researcher in the room were faster to help than those who were in the room with the other two children   who offered help according to the script. The study result shows that the bystander effect — a social phenomenon shown in adults — is evident in children as young as 5 years old.

1. What will the children at this age consider when deciding whether to help according to the study?
A.The age.B.The responsibility.C.The script.D.The picture.
2. What is the new study mainly about?
A.Whether children are helpful.
B.Whether children are responsible.
C.Whether the 5-year- olds will help other children.
D.Whether the presence of others affects children’s helping behavior.
3. What can we learn from Paragraph 4?
A.All the participants should be in the same room.
B.All the participants behaved according to a script.
C.The researcher left the remaining paper towel on the floor on purpose.
D.The researcher knocked over her cup of colored water because she didn’t notice the cup.
4. Where is the text probably from?
A.In a science magazine.B.In a history book.
C.In a travel brochure.D.In an art magazine.

10 . We may “friend” more people on Facebook, but we have fewer real friends-the kind who would help us out in tough times, listen sympathetically no matter what, lend us money, or keep a secret if we shared one.

1     He is a Cornell University sociologist who surveyed more than 2,000 adults and found that from 1985 to 2010, the number of truly close friends has dropped even though we're socializing as much as ever. On average, participants listed 2. 03 close friends in his survey.     2     “These are the people you think of as your real friends, your go-to people if you need something," Brashears said.

Brashears asked people online from a database called TESS-Time-Sharing Experiments for the Social Sciences-to list the names of people with whom they had discussed "important matters" over the previous six months. 48 percent of participants listed one close friend when asked, 28 percent listed two and 19 percent listed more.     3     He reports the results in the journal Social Networks.

4     Brashears said his survey can't tell us conclusively (确定地), but his guess is that while we meet just as many people as we used to, we sort them differently.

Does that suggest we're more isolated in these times when we seem to meet more people online than in person? Social scientists say Facebook may actually be healthy for us. Keith Hampton from the University of Pennsylvania wrote a report. “Internet, or Facebook users have more close relationships than other people. They get more overall social support than other people.     5    ” wrote Hampton in his blog post.

But online contact and personal contact are different. While Hampton reports we know more people because of Face-book, Brashears reports there are fewer whom we choose to trust with our most intimate worries.

A.What's the reason behind them?
B.What's the meaning of the survey?
C.That's the conclusion made by Matthew Brashears.
D.The report reflected issues behind the phenomenon.
E.At the same time, a little more than 4 percent didn't list anyone.
F.Compared with 3 in a previous study, the number was down by one point.
G.And in particular they report more emotional support and companionship.
